After going to several shows there, I finally came across a piece last night that I would be interested in purchasing. Unfortunately for me, I guess I wasn’t in trendy enough clothing for Ms. Davis to bother answering any questions that I had about the artist. Such a shame, hopefully this isn’t a common occurrence in her gallery.

After going through this building more and more I realized that these galleries were basically very similar in nature with a different name tag on the door.

I’d agree with the above, that Barbara tends to have some neat contemporary, and sometimes emerging, art /artists, but I get the feeling that Barbara as a person may be kind of 2 faced. Like, a suck-up to big-wig art collectors, but one that secretly likes to punt kittens, or something. The two other galleries on the 2nd floor seem much more fun and interesting, in my opinion. It’s been a while for me, but I did go to an opening at this building once, and I thoroughly enjoyed the squirt-gun show, as well as the trendy /hipster art object store.

barbara davis really has such a good eye for art. she represents most of my favorite local artists like joe mancuso, paul fleming, donald lipski, james surls… i could go on forever. she also deals in more well-known names like rauschenberg, louise bourgeois, and kiki smith. she is a modern art maven. the collection of artists that she represents really have major talent. if you are trying to get into art that is very now and hip, show up at one of her openings. they are really fun since a lot of the galleries in the building have openings on the same night. you can drink free cheap wine or beer and walk around door to door and gawk at lots of gorgeous art and interesting people.
