Hamburger perfection! The bun is so soft and slightly sweet. Not cakey like store bought buns. Just the right amount of fixings including grilled onions. Meat in every bit.

Bland and you can make this yourself. Waste of money. Owner is rude. Staff only treats regular customers nice. On to the next…

Got my birthday cake from here– the grand Marnier fruit cake. It was beautiful, had layers of strawberries and cantaloupe with glazed fruit on top and butter cream frosting. The frosting was a little too sweet for my taste. I feel like with a fruit cake like this the frosting should be light and fresh so it tasted like a mismatch almost.

Words cannot express the deliciousness of the cream cheese filled king cake from earlier today. The attached cover letter telling the story/history of the cake adds to it. As usual, the service was exceptional too. If you don’t give this place a sincere try, you’re selling yourself short!

If I haven’t already learned that some reviews are way off the charts I did once again, yesterday. I had to have a King Cake, just had to have one. No, I didn’t want to wait for the heavenly morsel from Sucre’ to be shipped from NOLA, so I looked up best in Houston, for King Cake. I called the place recommended, and recommended by Zagat; are you kidding me? I was told they did have a Cinnamon and Pecan I could pick up. I drove some 45 one way for it, to get there and they couldn’t find it. Well, I know why. The one Pecan Chip put in the middle is the identifier of the 3 pound cake. There was not one other single Pecan. Mind you that, 3 pound cake in a full sized sheet cake box and has nothing to protect it from getting drier and drier. Oh except, perhaps the pound of confectioner sugar icing. For $ 36.00 and a bakery that literally, had nothing in the store case but a few breads and pastries that looked like day old pastries, it was a shame. So very disappointed.

The burger was just OK. Liked the grilled onions on top, but lots of mustard, and the meat wasn’t particularly good — it was overcooked, potentially because they are frozen patties. I can’t be certain, but given the uniformity of shape and size and it being overcooked, that’s my guess. The onion rings were pretty fantastic. But, 12 $ for a burger, onion rings, and Dr. Pepper is a lot if the burger is just OK. Will be back to get some bakery, but not sold on it as a lunch destination.

I had the cheese burger and fries. Bread was not fresh and bottom bun a little hard due to being toasted a lil bit to much. Add to that the bread not being fresh caused the burger to come apart after being handled. The meat could use a tad more seasoning for flavor. Fries were fully cooked with nice golden brown color and were good after adding a pinch of salt. I also had the Praline Brownie which had been sitting in the display cooler. The cooler had completely dried the brownie out. For me it was a another disappointment. The best thing about this place is the staff. They were really friendly and courteous.

The cheeseburgers are dry & flavorless. The peanut butter brownie was even worse, super dry & nearly inedible.(And I’m a self-confessed peanut butter addict). The fries are definitely not fresh and were hard as rocks. Would give 2 stars, but the chocolate mouse cake was ok. Not worth a return visit though.

One of the best! I learned about this place from my mother who fell in love with their chocolate brownie mousse cake. Well, I decided 2 try it for myself one day and GOODGAWD! I can see why. Its sooooooo good. Its not too strong or rich but a perfect blend of sweetness and chocolate and crunch. I gave them 4 stars as opposed to 5 bc each time I go they only have 1 slice left(how ironic). Maybe that’s part of their game plan LOL well, it works because I keep coming back. I have also tried their lemon bars which are good 2. One year for my birthday, I had their strawberry cake. The chocolate strawberries were good but if a cake contains a thin layer of strawberry filling its not a strawberry cake! It was ok but I’ve had better. Lol sorry not sorry. Anywho, they have other types of desserts and lunch specials and tables to sit if you’re in the area and want to sit and enjoy. Oh yeah, sorry for not taking a pic. I’ve been to this place countless times and always end up finishing my slice by the time I make it home LOL maybe next time. Or maybe you should just try for yourself! #Nom

this bakery is awesome! we’ve ordered cakes from Acadian a few times and have never been disappointed. We’ve had their brownie chocolate mousse cake(aka Signature cake) and fresh fruit grand marnier. both were excellent! At first, I was worried the Signature cake would be too heavy but it wasn’t at all… definitely a crowd pleaser! the Fresh Fruit Grand Marnier was very light and moist. the owner is SUPER nice and everyone else there were also nice, attentive, and helpful answering questions. i have finally found a place for birthday cakes!

We’ve been meaning to try Acadian Bakery for a long time now, based on the reviews for the cheeseburgers. Finally made it today and it was FABULOUS! I pass Hubcap Grill every day. We’ve been to Hubcap once(and we are a family of 8, so that’s a lot of reviews in one), and no one loved it, so I have to respectfully agree to disagree with other reviewers recommending Hubcap over Acadian. WELOVEDACADIAN! My husband and sons are always on the quest for the best burger and this was it! We loved the generous slices of ripe tomato, fresh lettuce, grilled onion, and the fresh baked bakery buns are epic! Fries are good — nothing special, but they have other side choices. Who cares about the sides when the burger is this amazing. Service is fast and friendly. Bonus — we tried 3 different desserts. Don’t miss the Italian Cream Cake! The Creole Kiss is also unique. No frills, no crazy combinations for burgers, just straightforward, great food and great service. Can’t wait to come back so we can try more!

Absolutely love this little bakery! I’ve been coming here since I was in middle school — its walking distance from the house I grew up in and my current home. Sandwiches are stacked high with your choice of meat and the bread is wholesome and delicious. Wraps are also delicious! Whenever I go on a road trip, I usually stop by to grab a loaf of their strawberry bread — its similar to banana bread but with bits of fresh strawberries. The chocolate brownie mousse cake is to die for! They are only open till 4:30 on weekdays and sometimes it can be hard to find parking at lunchtime — this place gets packed! I usually call ahead and get my lunch and sweets to go but if you decide to dine in, check out the photos and newspaper clippings while you wait for your order. You’ll see owner, Sandra B, posed with her epic cakes and lots of renowned politicians!

Cheeseburger definitely not the best, don’t know who does those«Zaget Rated» reviews but there 50⁄50 in my book. Staff not as friendly as I would expect from a small bakery, and the cheeseburger was bland… Not to mention I ordered mine without mustard and they failed too come through with that simple request. The location of the bakery is great, and I feel that’s why a lot of these reviewers give this burger a pass.(Diehard Hipsters) If you’re looking for a good burger I would suggest Hubcap grill or even ruggles before returning here.

Located on West Alabama Street in Midtown Houston, The Acadian Bakers(AKA Acadian Bakery) is a bakery first and a deli second. This neighborhood bakery/deli is famous, internationally no less, for their king cakes. If you aren’t familar with this Gulf Coast delicacy, I suggest you google it, because this is a review of their burgers. I first went to Acadian Bakers almost 2 years ago on an outing with my sister, who always knew where good food was. She touted their BLT, which she correctly described as not to be believed. But upon arrival at the bakery I saw fabulous-looking burgers being served, and knew I was taking a pass on the BLT. While we waited for our food, I looked around the joint. You place your order at a counter that looks like it’s been there all 36 years of the bakery’s existence. The menu is on large boards above the counter. The dining room is small, feeling crowded with the 7 or so tables. Furniture is diner-esque. What gives The Acadian Bakers such strong atmopshere appeal is the neighborliness of it all, and the dozens of photos on the walls of famous people who have come here for a bite. When our food arrived and I saw my very own Acadian Bakery cheeseburger, I was excited. When I hefted it, and then tasted it, I was not disappointed. This was a fresh-made burger in every way. This is a bakery, so the buns were as fresh as any I have encountered, and sturdy enough to stand up to the juicy patty. I had grilled onions added, and they were just the right, slightly-caramelized touch to finish off this masterpiece. To let you know how impressed I was with this burger, after my description to my husband, who was green green green with envy, I suggested we go again the very next day. And we did. Yes, I will drive 30+ miles one way for a burger. If it’s good enough.

The«Best Cheeseburgers» sign outside speaks true. You already know this from other reviews. I just want to add an important search term for out-of-state transplants like myself suffering from withdrawal: IN-N-OUT No, the Acadian burger is not the same as the In-N-Out burger. The Acadian burger is massive and drippy; the In-N-Out burger is dainty and, uh, less drippy. What is the same, though, is that feeling of satisfaction when you finish eating it, and that niggling thought a couple days later that you wouldn’t mind having another one of those, soon. I’ve had native Texans send me to Whataburger, Smashburger, Five Guys, Elevation(*gag!*), one even has an addiction to the sirloin burger at Jack In The Box, and I’ve tried a handful of pub burgers. None of them hit the spot. Acadian hit a spot. Maybe not the exact same spot as an In-N-Out burger, but one adjacent to that spot and overlapping some. There’s only one thing I would change — and it’s nothing worth deducting a star for — but it would be awesome if Acadian could offer maybe a child-size version? Something smaller that fits more comfortably in the mouth and permits a side of fries. Until then, I recommend going there HUNGRY! And maybe with some moist naps for your hands.

They also do cakes and whatnot(‘Bakery’ is in their name) but this review is all about that tasty burger from the deli portion of the biz. They brag about having the best burger on a hand-painted sign outside, so they are inviting criticism into their life. Nothing ventured, nothing gained they say. Curiously on their biz website they refer to their deli in quotation marks as «deli» and also call it a fabulous«deli» which is further perplexing because quotation marks around certain words are not uh, so good, in an advertising sense. Sure lady, this Harley is real«safe» … sounds just a bit off. Sure lady, this taco has«meat» in it … also sounds wrong, but for this one at least, I am going to lay the blame squarely at the feet of Sweeney Todd. The basics are that the place is small, in an older strip mall that’s been there forever, there isn’t much parking in front out on W. Alabama, and it’s not an upscale cute faux-Eurobucks bistro you think was ripped straight from the Upper West Side. It’s the old guard Montrose that is fading fast in favor of million dollar townhouses(sorry, 800k+) like those eyesore designs that will be going a block down W. Alabama between the 230 apartments and the overpass. So historically, it’s relevant since it survived the turbulence and wave of recent gentrification that turns gay bars into upscale coffee shops. Acadian gets you coming and going with the lunch burger and the cakes/desserts for parties, special occasions, and just-because you have your Eddie Pepitone-style«eating shirt» on late one night in front of the telly and the eating shirt demands a sweet foods sacrifice — [Swedish death metal voice] or else. The inside dining area for lunch is small and unglamorous. It is clean, but is devoid of ambiance and any frills beyond that. It’s not going to be the fanciest place you’ve ever been, but if you follow my burger list here on Unilocal you know that I go to some really questionable places that make this look like dining in at Versailles requiring the pinkie up and out as you bite into that burger. On the online menu the cheeseburger is listed under the lunch special divider section. The cheeseburger is $ 6.95 and lemme explain u a thing, it is worth that $ 0.20 difference to get the cheese rather than getting the plain burger. The BLT is also $ 6.95 but that is listed under the lunch menu generally, rather than the lunch specials menu specifically, so there you go. The fries are $ 2.95. But at least they have fries on the menu unlike Bubba’s. Cheeseburger time! This thing is massive. It is piled so high you might need to surgeon fingers take some things out. Once the long toothpick comes out, this thing can fall over like an avalanche since it is so top heavy. The lettuce is piled pretty high on the bottom, soaking up all that good mayo, so I took the lettuce out for sort of the first course like a salad. Once the thick cuts of lettuce were long gone the burger was down to a manageable size to bite into. The roll is just amazing. It is soft, pillowy, and nearly dissolves in your mouth unlike those store bought kind that have so much grit they just stick to your teeth. The patty is thick and juicy. It is well done but not scorched to a crisp. Even though it comes in with a heavy helping of mustard tiger on top and mayo on the bottom you can still taste the patty flavor. The cheese is thrown in there with a heavy hand too, there was so much oozing out the back side it requires vigilant readjustment after each bite. This is a lot of cheese, but the cheese provides a nice profile to offset the hint of saltiness and overall patty milieu. The best part about it all is the onions. They are grilled to perfection in a way that makes me happy that I ate them all, but sad that I am not eating them right now. They also make it rain with pickles. There were so many pickles! And all of the pickles were touching so it would be like a nightmare of the double entendre variety for the Chick Fil A corporation. The cheeseburger plate comes out colorful with accompaniments of a pickle, olives, and bright red strawberry split down the middle. With the toothpick sticking out on top of the burger, this has diner-style presentation nailed down to make you hungry. The french fries order comes out in a plastic bucket with ketchup already squirted into a companion divot in the bucket. The fries are pleasant but not remarkable — they are good enough and no more. Acadian would be the sort of sensible cheeseburger puveyor that would cater a ceremony for Bobandy and Jim Lahey’s nuptials, because the cheeseburger(by itself without any fancy toppings) is good enough it would satisfy even Randy’s sophisticated cheeseburger palate. And at $ 6.95 a pop even an assistant trailer park supervisor in Nova Scotia could afford that. Acadian is worth a try if you want them to put their money where their mouth is about having the best burger. It is one fine cheeseburger for a casual Friday lunch.

The Acadian Bakery is another café/bakery located in the Montrose area. I haven’t had any of their lunch items, but I have ordered several cakes from them. The brownie chocolate mousse cake is their signature cake with chocolate and white French butter cream icing. Even though it sounds really heavy, it was perfect for chocolate lovers. The chocolate mousse was light and not too filling. The second cake that I ordered was the Italian cream cake with cream cheese icing. This is the best Italian cream cake I’ve had in the city. It was a big hit at the party. The service is great and hassle free. You can request to add a couple chocolate covered strawberries onto any cake as well.

All I’ve had from Acadian Bakery, so far, is dessert! And to be even more specific, all I’ve had is Italian Cream Cake. Italian Cream Cake is my favorite kind of cake, so I often choose it for my birthday. The first time we ordered one from Acadian was in 2012 and it was perhaps the best Italian Cream Cake I’ve ever had. It tasted homemade, the cake was perfect, and the cream cheese icing was wonderful in consistency and taste! In 2013 I was excited to get yet another Italian Cream Cake from Acadian for my birthday, but sadly this one wasn’t as good. It had more of a freezer-burn taste, the consistency of the icing seemed off and as you can see in the picture, they spelled my name wrong and the leaves for the flowers were white. Seems like they rushed this order or didn’t do their best work, which confuses me because from reviews on Unilocal and elsewhere, they seem to produce consistently good products. I have not given up on Acadian(although I did not order my birthday cake from there in 2014). I still really want to try the cheeseburger and I would try the cake again. Maybe they were just having a bad day.

Still worthy of 5 stars. I ordered a last minute birthday cake for my husband who is always complaining that he never got a taste of his Acadian chocolate raspberry groom’s cake on our wedding day since our guests managed to eat the cake in its entirety. I figured the birthday would be a great time to make it up to him. Ordering over the phone is a breeze. I called on a Friday afternoon for Monday pick-up. Georgia herself answered the call. I asked for a 9″ chocolate raspberry with the words«Happy Birthday Kevin» on top, and that’s exactly what I got. I came in to pick up the cake during my lunch break on Monday, and it was waiting and ready to go. The price is excellent for the quality of cake you’re receiving and for the number of people it serves. We’ve already cut 6 slices from the cake and still have ¾ remaining, so it could easily serve 24! That’s just more than $ 1 per slice — much cheaper than many dessert alternatives, and certainly fresher. The raspberry sauce topping is amazing too, and it contains seeds so you know it’s not a fake! We will continue to make Acadian our go-to for all cake-worthy celebrations.

I swore to myself that if I didn’t update my review after recently scarfing down one of their glorious cheeseburgers, it’d be a crime against humanity to hide this lil’ secret. I came in here today to order a birthday cake for my niece’s birthday, and since 1) It was lunch time 2) I did bootcamp in the morning and 3) I had a healthy Greek yogurt for breakfast, I knew I could splurge a few extra hundred cals on a little beef. Juicy, packed high with caramelized onions, bacon, crisp lettuce, tomato, at least 10 pickles(yes, I counted), mayo, cheese on a sweet giant bun. …I shit you not this burger is worth every calorie. I literally(no exaggeration) took one bite and said aloud: «Damn, that’s good.» And I was dining alone. Queue the stares. Normally, a meal like this would give me some — if not, tons — of guilt. But nope. I knew this was completely worth it.
