Very similar to ABC store and a lot of them are even located across from ABC locations like this one was. It isn’t as big and carry mostly food and beverage options. Their pricing is very reasonable and a lot of it is cheaper than ABC especially for macadamia nut chocolates and bentos. The staff is friendly and check out is fast. Pro tip: Sometimes they put their sushi and bentos on «clearance» if it’s going to expire tomorrow. It’s the same thing if you’re going to eat it now and will save you a few bucks

Another ABC style convenience store, but if you need to pass an ABC to get to Whalers stick with the better chain, I find Whalers quality to be a bit lacking.

This place is great! Lots to choose from and better than your average selection. Ice cream, gourmet bento, and a large bottle of iced water for a great price… the clerk was friendly and immediately asked if I needed assistance. The store also accepts my Platinum Alphabet card in the heart of Waikiki. They need to stock up on Arizona Energy Tonic.

I ate lunch and for some reason I was starving 3 hours later. :( This place was nearby so I decided to check out what they have. It’s like any other ABC store they have around here in Waikiki but I think it’s owned by someone else. They have a little bit of everything, drinks, snacks, milk, clothing, nick nacks. I was there for a snack. They had quite a selection of chips, I choose cheddar pop chips and I decided to get a drink too. I chose a Snapple. It’s Waikiki priced. The sales associates are friendly and attentive. I went up to the cashier and she was ready and waiting to help. They don’t try to up sale you on anything else like ABC store. It’s located near the Ambassador Hotel of Waikiki. It’s good for a late night snack run. 31 Unilocal ~16/31

Since I’ve started spending most of my time in Waikiki as opposed to Chinatown, I’m no longer spoiled by living within walking(or stumbling) distance of many stores I grew accustomed to having nearby. Instead of Safeway being a 10 minute walk away, I’ve got Food Pantry at best. Instead of having 2 Long’s locations and a 7 – 11 plus countless mini-marts, I’ve got ABC and Whalers. Especially at this end of Waikiki, I HIGHLY recommend Whalers over ABC. The prices are usually better(still expensive but less heart attack inducing than ABC). This particular location is situated at the bottom of the Ambassador Hotel, right at the Namahana & Kuhio Bus Stop so it’s a very convenient stop when taking the bus back to Chinatown. Also, I’ve found the selection of items here to be pretty impressive… for a convenience store. I’ve made many dinners with food, particularly produce, that I’ve picked up at Whalers. For most items the prices aren’t too bad… definitely cheaper than ABC and cheaper than or the same as Food Pantry. The staff has always been kind and helpful to me. Also their wine selection at this particular location is surprisingly very good. Overall, if I’m pressed for time or too low on energy to walk or bus down to a real grocery store, I’ll always go to Whalers and I highly recommend that you do too!
