One of the best meals I’ve had hands down since arriving on the island. Walked in on a weekday for lunch, wanted to try everything but we settled on their famous Phở & Banh Mi — neither disappointed. Small confession, I did really only want to to go there for dessert, and I’m so glad I did. Their weekly rotating soft serve is amazing!!! I wast lucky enough to try chamomile & apricot. Just sublime. I loved this place, cannot wait to return. The dining room is open and innovative. This has easily become one of my very favorites.

It’s one of Oahu’s hottest restaurants, and for very good reason. The food is AWESOME. First of all, reservations is a must. The restaurant is packed for lunch and dinner. Even the bar is full during peak dining times. Do yourself a favor and book a reservation in advance by calling them, or by going to their website or . My most favorite dishes here are: 1) Laotian fried chicken appetizer. Order this. Believe me. 2) Phở French Dip. The beef brisket is ultra tender and moist. 3) P&L Phở. I normally do not eat phở but I will eat this one. It’s almost like you’re not eating phở, which is what makes it so great. 4) Soft serve dessert. Their flavors change weekly and they’re all refreshing and a great way to cap off your meal. This restaurant is loud, crowded, and full of activity. Not a good choice for a quiet, relaxing, intimate dinner for two, but a great place to gather for every other occasion.

If you want to feast like kings and queens, you must go here! DISCLAIMER: If you are on a diet, I don’t suggest you go here, everything is very rich and flavorful and will most definitely clog the arteries. Haha. Well, what we ordered did anyways. We came here last night for a friend’s birthday — per his request. We all haven’t been there before so we didn’t know what to expect. My first opinion looking through Unilocal pics and the menu was that I wasn’t going to like anything there. Boy was I wrong! We had a larger party so we had a «pre-set» menu. Birthday boy chose the apps while we chose our own entrees, and ice cream of the day for desert. These were the apps we got: Papaya salad — first time trying this and I loved it! Laotian fried chicken — good and flavorful! The Works-OMG. I die! I’ve had bone marrow before and I didn’t like it then, but this… words cannot explain how good this was. Apparently they only make a few of these per night and it always sells out… we got the last four. SCORE! People were coming up to our table and asking what it was, sorry sold out! For the entrée, I got the phở french dip with manila clams. So much flavor that I had to wipe my mouth after every bite. Dip it in the jus of the manila clams or eat the sandwhich on its own, good either way. Ice cream of the day was a lychee sorbet swirled with ginger ice cream. It was a perfect dessert that was light enough to complement the heavy and rich dinner that we just finished. Mark our server was the best! He was very attentive and catered to our every need. I highly recommend that you ask for him because he is awesome! Thank you so much for dealing with our kind. Haha.

Rock hard seats Horrible acoustics Food not so great. Truffle pasta inedibly salty. Salad way too sweet. Turmeric rice drizzled with chicken fat was weird and inedible. Our party of five first timers, so disappointed.

The Phở Sot Vang is an awesome modern twist on the traditional Phở dish. It had a red wine base for the broth that went very well with the mini bagette. The setting was at little on the tight side but maybe that’s how the bar seating was meant to be. Some of the seating was on a long table meant for large parties but was also used to seat smaller parties to fill in empty spots. I would recommend setting a reservation or coming in a little early for lunch. Even though the wait wasn’t very long, I would suggest it if you have a tight lunch schedule. Service was acceptable and the food came out in a timely manner, however, during peak hours, you may be waiting on the tab.

I am so disappointed in what the Le family has let this restaurant become. I do not fault them but their poor choice in staff. My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant since it first opened because it was right after we moved here. Being from a Vietnamese family he loved the chef’s take on the cuisine. It quickly became our favorite restaurant downtown. We recently celebrated out 10 year wedding anniversary. I made sure to let them know when I made the reservation that it was a special occasion and what it was. Now if we had gone down to another restaurant and pod the same amount we would have received at the very least a «happy anniversary» from our server, more likely also a celebratory dessert. Our experience at P&L: no one said anything, we were not seated at our reservation time, we shared a table with strangers, and nothing to mark our special occasion. Well that sucked and was disappointing but we still liked the food so we decided we’d give them another shot. We had family travel here from FL and they were so excited to try this place. We decided to go for lunch because we had my son with us. We went in and told the hostess our party and that we had a baby. She says 25 minutes. 45 minutes go by and now we have a cranky baby and I am pissed because there are at least 20 open seats. She told us «5 more minutes» 5 minutes prior. So I go up and ask to get clarification and she tells me they are done they just need to leave. I said it wasn’t acceptable to not have a reasonable expectation of when we could sit. Then I asked about the open tables and she says they are all reserved parties. She says we are waiting for the bar. This is when I lost it. I said there is no way we are sitting at a BAR with a baby. She tells me that she told my mother, who made our reservation, that we would be sitting at the bar. I said there’s no way that is true because we would not have agreed to wait 20(now 40+) minutes to eat. She tells me basically we were lying and that’s what it was. I check with my mother, right behind me, and no she was never told that. So after 45 minutes we had to leave without eating. This used to be a great place to come for the food, atmosphere, and friendly staff. Now it is nothing special and you can go down one block and get better food for mugs cheaper, without the snotty staff. We will not return and will never recommend this place to any friends or family again.

I cannot speak highly enough of this joint! The food is amazing — noodles, sandwiches, chicken rice, chicken wings and more. I loved the dessert soft serve and the neat cocktails, as well as the good selection of non-alcoholic drinks as well. The space is modern and trendy with no hint of pretentiousness from the friendly staff. Great playlist in the background as well. I wish The Pig and the Lady was my local!

I am LOOONNNNNNG overdue for a review on this place(actually, I’m long overdue for a review in general) seeing as this is my favorite restaurant on our island, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve eaten here already. Where to start, where to start… Parking. Metered street parking(free Monday-Saturday after 6pm, free on Sunday’s & holidays), or the municipal lot in Marin tower(entrance on Smith Street; $ 3 flat rate/day on Saturday, Sunday’s & holidays; $ 3 for the first 2 hours on weekdays — it gets more expensive after 2 hours). I love the décor of the pig & the Lady. It’s part rustic, part quirky. Service is good, but… I’ve never had a problem with service, but I must say I’ve never had a friendly server with the exception of Mother’s Day(Tyson was our server at this year’s Mother’s Day brunch, & he is hands down the best server I have ever had — he provided us with great service AND he was friendly). The bussers seem friendlier than the servers. With that being said, service is still good. The servers know what they’re doing, they make good suggestions, & they bring your food out in a timely manner. The most recent time I went, they had a guy whose main job seemed to be refilling people’s waters. I’ve never seen anyone do that before, & I must say, I really liked that! Kudos to that guy. I hope they keep it up. I’m always drinking my water, & one of my pet peeves in restaurants is waiting to flag someone down to refill my empty water glass. Plus it reminded me of fine dining restaurants where they don’t let your water glass get less than half full :) The food. Oh, the food. The food is the reason why the Pig and the Lady is my favorite restaurant! Their food is always so flavorful & well balanced. They just recently changed their menu, & I’ve tried 6 things so far on the lunch menu(4 of which haven’t changed from the last menu), & a piggy small, & a salad on the dinner menu. My 2 fave lunch entrees are the Mama Le’s hai nam chicken, & the com tam pork jowl. If I HAD to pick one, I’d def go with the pork. It is now one of my favorite Pig and the Lady dishes :) The tenderest, juiciest, tastiest pork slices with a sunny side up egg, pickled veggies, & chicharrones atop a bed of white broken rice(I might possibly sub this out for chicken fat rice instead… I love the Pig & the Lady’s chicken fat rice — I could eat it by itself)… It was a pretty big dish, but it was so good I ate the whole thing! I didn’t even share! The salad of sprouting seeds on the dinner menu is one of my favorite salads period. And let’s not forget their soft serve swirls(flavors change weekly), & their milkshake & cookies! Their pastry chef comes up with the most awesome unique flavors for the soft serve & shakes. Their drinks(both alcoholic & non) are yummy too. Basically I have never been disappointed with anything I have ever ordered from the Pig and the Lady. I’ve almost always left impressed. If you LOVE flavor, aren’t afraid to try something that sounds a little different, & haven’t been to the Pig and the Lady yet, idk what you’re waiting for. You need to come here asap! Oh, & reservations are recommended(for both lunch & dinner) as they’re usually PACKED.

We got here close to 2pm when they close to begin to prep for dinner but we were seated quickly. We ordered the taro root and puffed rice salad and the Laotian chicken wings. Both were absolutely delicious. The salad was light with a tang and super fresh. The chicken wings were perfectly crisp on a bed of peanuts and salad which we devoured. We had the beignets for dessert and the mung bean vanilla soft serve which was a highlight. We will definitely be back! We ordered some drinks that sounded amazing but forgot about them until we were charged for them and realized they never came!

Holy Smokes. I love this place. I must confess that once I came here for lunch, and it did not meet my expectations. I thought the lunch menu items were overpriced and overrated. I then tried coming here for dinner another time, but the restaurant failed to honor my reservation. My family and I left the place irritated after waiting for almost an hour. Yes, that is with confirmed reservations. I guess third time is a charm. I tried again to eat dinner here with a group of friends. This time, it was a huge success in every which way. I think that the best way to enjoy The Pig & The Lady is to dine here for supper with a good group and enjoy your meal family style. Order at least 5 menu items and share everything! That way, you’ll benefit the most by being able to taste all of the delectable plates. Things I recommend in order from most favorite to least: THEWORKS.(Ask for a shot at the end: P) LAOTIANFRIEDCHICKEN ROASTEDBRUSSELSPROUTS RIBEYEKHO PHOFRENCHDIPANDMANILACLAMS

Awesome — food, service, ambiance, everything in between. Came on a Friday night @ 5:30 pm(dinner opening) without reservations, was seated at the bar(for two) because all the other seats were reserved. Though many of the tables remained unoccupied during our hour and a half there, it must have been a blessing in disguise to enjoy our meal at the bar. The two bartenders were awesome, both had great attitudes and were very easy to talk to which made us comfortable. They were both attentive, yet not overly attentive where it got uncomfortable, just the right amount of attentiveness. They also seemed to work well together; I particularly liked how they were both helping us, versus being assigned to customers or sections at the bar. Both were very proactive. Everything we ordered was truly delicious — papaya salad was refreshing, beignets were light and fluffy, Lao fried chicken was soo good and last, dessert beignets. Of these idk which is my fave, really enjoyed it all. No complaints on food other than I didn’t realize that the lucky mi sandwich I wanted to try is only on the lunch menu. Mahalo P&tL, of course I’ll have to come back to try the much menu.

I seriously cannot get enough of the PIG&LADY’s PHO!!! I haven’t been to this place for years since they first opened this location on Beretania in Downtown/Chinatown. At first, the menu was limited and lunch time seating was limited. But it’s been years since and I cannot get enough of this place! Former co-worker and Unilocal Elite, Taryn, bought me for lunch here a months ago. I tried their P&L phở and the soft serve and I have been back every week for the past 3 weeks(making that 4x) for ONLY the P&L phở and their soft serve. Oh boy did I think I was in Heaven for the 2 minutes I gulped down this soft cream that is certainly nothing but heaven. YUMMMMMMMM! I did also bring friends(as an excuse to return to dine here) and we ordered the BBQ meat dish(Thit Nuong Feast) for two and it was SOOOOOYUMMY. An also must have are their Laotian Fried Chicken dish. I may not be from the South, but I do know good fried chicken. This will not disappoint!

The Pig & the Lady summary: De-Lish! Curse you P&L my stomach is to small. This place is a must try when in Honolulu and here is why: 1. Asian Fusion is always worth a try because the flavor profile is so diverse and at P&L they do not disappoint. They are a Vietnamese restaurant with Japanese, and other asian influences with a touch of American flair. 2. Flavor. We had the P&L Phở and the Phở French Dip and both were excellent! The beef was tender and the sauce and crunchy bread were a perfect combination for the French Dip. The broth and Phở were divine and totally worth trying. Cilantro, and pickled chili mixed well with the smoked pork belly and beef brisket. Speaking of beef, it was so tender and packed with flavor I could eat this stuff by the pound. The broth I could drink by the gallon, and the bread I could munch on hourly. 3. They rotate their menu every few months. I love this because if you are new or a veteran foodie, you will come back time and time. 4. The atmosphere is perfect for lunch or dinner. Soft lighting with a retro warehouse vibe. Love the Mason jars to drink out of, and coffee can holding extra Sriracha sauce on the table. Metal chopsticks is also welcome over wood ones. 5. The drinks like cobra commander are out of this world and a great name in itself. Sriracha ice cubes anyone? Or Damn fime Cup Of Coffee: cognac, cacao, condensed milk, benedictine, café du monde. When I die, the coroner will say I drown in to much of this stuff. 6. Desert is imaginative and tasty with a dash of originality like the Sunday Funday: frozen custard served on house-made waffle bowl with salted feuilletine crunch, macadamia nuts, cocoa liqueur whipped cream, chocolate magic crack. Yum! So what I didn’t like: parking is a pain. Hunting for a good street spot is gonna be tough. And parking lots are a bit pricy. Also, I did get a reservation with open table, and you should too. Or you might have to wait a while to be seated because The Pig & the Lady is a hot spot any time of day. Also, my poor stomach was to small to eat more items I was very disappointed in him! If you like my review, hit the like button or compliment and send some warm fuzzies my way! I hope this helps you decide where to go today.

I love this place. period. I’ve only been here once but I can’t wait to go back. My sister and I went for lunch on a weekday. It was pretty busy so we had to wait for about 25 minutes. It’s nice though because they take your number and will text you when your table is almost ready and then again when they’re ready to seat you. My sister ordered the chicken phở($ 14) and I ordered the laotian fried chicken sandwich($ 14) and upgraded to the noodle soup for an extra $ 3. The broth that they use for their phở/soup is THEBEST I have ever tasted! And I really enjoyed my friend chicken sandwich. We were too full to try their soft serve but it is definitely something I would come back to try!

We came here on a Monday afternoon. Parking is a little hard to find, but we got lucky and someone left so if we found parking in less than 10 minutes. We managed to get into the restaurant 30 minutes before it closes(2pm). We knew exactly what to order so that relieve some of the pressure. Food: 3.5 We usually get the chicken phở and the French dip sandwich. The phở used to be pretty good but today there’s all these crushed bones that I had to spit out and also it didn’t taste as good as it did before. The other thing to get here(must try) is the French dip sandwich! it’s pretty unique and has a spicy kick to it. Must try to eat with dip and without dipping sauce. Atmosphere: 4.5 Atmosphere here is casual, ambience is loud. Feels like a pretty hip place. Service: 2 They took forever to sit us down, others would have came later even with stroller got sat down. Also they got our order wrong. This overall experience definitely changed. It wasn’t as memorable as it used to be. The sandwich is good but not sure if it’s worth it for us to purposely come back for like we used to. For people that have not tried though, I still highly recommend for you to try.

The Pig & The Lady is such an interesting name for a restaurant. I later found out that the pig is the owner and the lady is the mother. Together along with their crew they make great meals for many to enjoy. I like the trendy feel of the restaurant which is located in Chinatown on King Street. Street parking is difficult to find and your best bet is to park in the municipal garages. I usually dine here for lunch and have yet to try their dinner menu. I ordered the banh mi phở dip sandwich. The baguette was crisp and fresh. The 12 hour roasted brisket was soft. The thai basil and bean sprouts complemented the sandwich. The phở au jus looked a little oily for my liking, but was served warm. Laotian Fried Chicken was fried with shallots and roasted peanuts. I was expecting a little more flavor and was a little disappointed. It was fried perfectly though. This dish is a little pricy for 3 wings. Service is always on point here. They always make recommendations and are accommodating to large groups. Make reservations in advance if you plan on having a gathering.

Trendy, modern take on Vietnamese classics Service/Ambience: This place is part café/bar/restaurant with the one-of-a-kind artwork for sale on the wall and numerous bar seating in addition to solitary or trendy, community seating. Service was efficient. Food(I’m vegetarian, my fiancé is not): the food is star here. I couldn’t decide between the tofu bahn mi dip or the tamarind curry veggie phở. The beauty is you don’t have to choose. The bahn mi’s come with a corresponding phở broth to dip your sandwich in. You can upgrade to a mini phở bowl. Two things: why don’t we dip every bahn mi in phở? The French baguette lends perfectly to dipping and the flavors are perfect. Definitely one of the best veggie phở’s I have ever had and one of the best modern-spin bahn mi’s I’ve ever had. My fiancé had the porchetta phở and really liked it. We ended off with the beignets. They were light and came with an even lighter Apple/Cinnamon/Banana(?) dipping sauce that also paired well. Overall: This was a perfect mix of classic and new age Vietnamese food in atmosphere and taste. Will come out of our way to eat here again. Well worth the 30 minute bus ride from Waikiki!

The Pig and the Lady, you had me at phở french dip banh mi and Laotian fried chicken. My boyfriend and I ordered: — Laotian fried chicken: Dat sauce though! I would recommend saving the remaining sauce when you’re done with the wings. The wings remained crispy with the sauce. — Phở french dip banh mi: I love Vietnamese food and had to give this a try. The brisket was so tender. I like that it comes with a side salad/slaw(loved the peanut halves!) to cut through the heaviness of the sandwich. Portions were large and I took the second half of the sandwich home. — Roasted porchetta banh mi: Luckily my boyfriend enjoys pork pâté, but me not so much. I would recommend the brisket French dip banh mi over the porchetta banh mi. If you’re from the Bay Area like me, I would stick to Roli Rotti for your porchetta fix! — Coconut horchata: Refreshing, but a little too sweet for me. I would have liked this towards the end of my meal, but it was too sweet to drink with my meal. The Pig and the Lady is cute and hip. I sat at the bar and it was kinda cool that you could see the bakers in action. They were giving some people free desserts(guess I wasn’t cool enough to get some), but everyone we encountered was pretty friendly. There was a 15 – 20 minute wait on a Monday for lunch. Parking isn’t the best in Chinatown, but there are some public lots a few blocks away. Definitely enjoyed the food here but I wouldn’t prioritize The Pig and the Lady next time I’m in Oahu. With so many must try food options in Oahu, I would recommend coming here if you have time to spare during your trip to the island.

We found this GEM when searching for a great spot to entertain a client for dinner. We were excited when looking at the menu, but had no idea how fantastic every dish would be. The vibe of the restaurant is fantastic. Beautiful brick walls, a mix if tables and communal seating, and a vibrant look and feel. We started with ahi poke dish and the stewed bone marrow. Fantastic! We moved onto the salad of sprouting seeds, the fish of the day off the grill, and the winter black truffle cacio e pepe. Everything was full of flavor with the perfect variety of textures. Lovely all the way around. Also, don’t miss ordering the mule — — - they make their own inhouse ginger beer. Best mule I’ve had! Our server mentioned that Bourdain has been here twice. I know why. Can’t wait to visit again!

The Pig and The Lady has to have the most mysterious name for a restaurant I have ever encountered. I walked in blind so you can imagine my surprise when I realized it was a Vietnamese-fusion type of restaurant. Thankfully, my brother-in-law remembered to make reservations for our party so we didn’t have to wait with the giant group of people out front. Inside, the restaurant is decorated like a hip restaurant with wooden tables, metal chairs, Mason jars as utensils holders and cups, and funny pig pictures. Julie was our waitress for the afternoon and she provided such superb service that I felt the need to thank her myself. She was very sweet in making sure we were comfortable and had such a bright personality that it made for a lovely lunch. Julie is great! The menu for lunch isn’t too large, but most of the things listed sounded great. We decided on three appetizers to share: fried chicken wings, papaya salad, and an eggplant dish with rice cakes. The chicken wings were drenched in a spicy, fish sauce vinaigrette that coated the crispy skin wonderfully. But boy, were those pieces big! One piece was more than filling. The papaya salad was very refreshing and I loved how they added cherry tomatoes that soaked up the fish sauce salad dressing really well. The most underwhelming dish had to be the egg plant that just tasted more like mush, but at least the cakes were crispy. For my entrée, I chose the rice curry with pieces of basa fish(not too sure what«basa» means). The curry was definitely made with an Indian flare from all of the aromatic spices, and the broth itself was quite thick. The pieces of fish were crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. I liked the eggplant in my curry, but the potatoes were way too tough. I left most of that untouched. I’m still not entirely certain why the restaurant is called The Pig and The Lady, but I am certain that it’s a solid place for lunch. I’m a big fan of Vietnamese food and for the most part, I totally appreciate the little variations they had here.

Aw man! Sometimes these reviews are hard to write. What is even more difficult is when I talk someone else into trying a new restaurant that they would not have tried on their own. I feel responsible when my guest has a legitimately poor experience because the restaurant failed big time. To make this review concise and to the point, I’ll state my conclusion first. This wildly popular restaurant is deserving of some of its praise but has failed to provide proper supervision of the staff for at least one lunch shift. I observed no one in the dining room overseeing things or checking on customers. We were the recipients of a very uneven experience. How do you rate a restaurant experience where half is 5 stars and the other half is 0 stars? The Good: Seated quickly Questions answered regarding menu items Excellent appetizer of eggplant and crispy rice Very nice lemon grass tofu sandwich with dip Excellent beignet dessert The Bad: #1 issue is this: Totally Crappy Pork Phở! Wife requested soy sauce to flavor her pork phở. First request was ignored by our own waitress. Second request to another waiter referred back to our own waitress who informed us they had«RUNOUT» of soy sauce. Wife reluctantly explained to me that the soup had no flavor. I tasted it and agreed that it was watery and had zero flavor. It was like water literally. It wasn’t hot either. ***Imagine phở with veggies, noodles, bean sprouts, fresh basil, fatty pork slices with only warm water for the soup flavoring. That is what it was like. I tasted it 4 separate times. I had a hard time even comprehending how bad it was. She ate the pork and some noodles and gave up on it. She didn’t want me to make a fuss and return it. She thought a little soy sauce would make it OK to eat. Seemed like a reasonable request to me. But not to our waitress. Is there a no soy sauce policy? Or they ran out of soy sauce? Either is mind boggling. #2 Now that you mention it: Very loud plus uncomfortable bench seating. Drinking out of mason jars once is quaint. Now that all trendy restaurants use them… I’m going to stop patronizing places that still do this. Jars are stupid. One of our initial bread plates was dirty. We had our appetizer and wanted to eat it. But we needed a clean plate. We requested a clean plate from a passing waitress because ours had disappeared. That waitress made a face and was laughing as she walked away to exchange it. She thought no one was paying attention. I saw it. If you are too good to work in a restaurant and you are annoyed by customers who were given dirty plates by another staff member, then don’t. Find another job please. Mini phở upgrade on my sandwich forgotten even though I was charged for it. I didn’t remember until later when looking at the bill. We decided to salvage what was left of my birthday lunch and try the beignet dessert that several tables around us were enjoying. My wife gets stressed if I complain on her behalf. She just wanted to try the dessert and then get out. I personally would have been a bit more assertive in dealing with this. No one in the dining room was supervising the staff and no one was checking in with the customers during the meal. Conclusion: Either the Pig and Lady makes the worst phở soup on the planet or this batch was deliberately watered down because they were running out. Or was there an accident in the kitchen and water got dumped into the phở pot and no one noticed? I hope it was just water. I had tasted P&L phở before at a pop up event and I know their phở broth is excellent. I’ve been a big fan of P&L for years going back to a Unilocal event at the zoo and the farmers markets. I have recommended them to many people over the years. This was my first visit to the brick and mortar. I was looking forward to it because it was my birthday. I was personally so disappointed. Even more embarrassed and disappointed for my wife. She decided it was best not to complain so that our small celebration would go smoothly. In the grand scheme of things this experience is not important. No one was injured or harmed. Hurt tastebuds and hurt feelings only. $ 55 plus tip poorly spent. We are fine and won’t let this poorly run business cause us any more distress. One star because I can’t bring myself to go back.

I refer to this as a «Home and Home”= Honolulu and San Francisco meeting… A great way to spend time with fellow Unilocalers from sister cities. Mike C who frequents Honolulu annually(you know that song= Same Time Next Year») along with Al L and a non Unilocaler from SFO(but we won’t hold it against him) sing that song!!! Alas, their trip comes to an end but they make the time to spend and break bread with the sister city Honolulu on the eve of their departure … over at the Pig and the Lady. A great place as their seating was meant to accommodate large groups it seems as our table fit 12 humans comfortably. Kudos to the Pig & the Lady management and staff who graciously sat us, served us and helped us with the division of our bill. A couple hours flew by in no time at all. Before we knew it, we were saying goodbye after a nice lunch, nice conversation and quite possibly, the start of an annual meeting between the sister ships Honolulu and San Francisco.
