I’ve been going here since my sophomore year(2013). It was a go to favorite of mine until I moved to a house farther away from It’s kapahulu location. However, I can still taste the ono-ness in my mouth! The steak plate is to die for, and their guava chicken? Don’t get me started. Their prices are dank, along with their portions. Don’t sleep on these guys. I personally enjoy non-pretentious settings, and these guys offer that with their food truck action and out door seating area.

FAVORITEFOODTRUCKEVER! Unfortunately with food trucks, they tend to move around. So sometimes it can be difficult to actually try them. The first time I tried The Blue Truck Teppanyaki was actually at an event in Waianae! Talk about random. However the steak plate I bought was the BOMB! Months went by and I thought I would never see this truck again, because I hardly ever go out to Waianae. But one beautiful sunny day I saw this beautiful truck downtown on Queen street(close by iolani palace/king kamehameha statue). The food gods had answered my prayers! The Grub. [[ STEAKPLATE $ 10 ]] This delish steak plate is served with a very nice portion of steak, cooked to PERFECTION. It also comes with rice, salad and grilled veggies. NOMZ

Ordered two plates: 1) steak 2) fish filet, which was their special First off, nothing special about the special. The fish filet was overcooked making it very dry. The sauce(I’m gonna assume that it’s their signature sauce) did not go well with the fish either. The steak, on the other hand, was nothing short of amazing. It was cooked perfectly, pink in the middle with a nice charred crust on the outside. Not to mention, the sauce and steak just went great together. I also appreciated the bountiful amount of well seasoned veggies that came with both plates.

Hopefully this isn’t a permanent thing but today I finally got to come here(finals week yay…) and decided to order my usual: mini teppanyaki chicken. The only minor setback I had from last time was the dollar increase but understandable since our economy sucks lol but today there was just so much things I couldn’t ignore: When I first opened the plate, instead of seeing bright yellow corn, I saw plain green salad :(don’t get me wrong, I love salad but I was accustomed to having corn in my plate. Wasn’t such a big deal until I took a bite of the rice xP it was harder than usual and felt a bit dry? I even noticed that there was less garlic pieces D: where mah garlic at??? I only saw maybe like couple chunks here or there but that’s it. The biggest disappointment was the sauce. It’s usually a semi thick sauce that you can easily pour onto your food or dip into but today it was practically jelly-like…it was hard to dip my chicken into it so I literally had to scoop out the sauce. It was unappetizing to look like and not as fun to eat xP I really hope these changes are minor setbacks because it’s one of my favorite food trucks

I have been craving teppanyaki… but I can’t afford teppanyaki restautants, like Tanaka of Tokyo, every day, so I need to find those places that are more affordable, yet tasty. Blue Truck Teppanyaki is one of those places. Don’t let the outside of the truck fool you… they may not look like much, but they create delicious plate lunches. The prices are pretty reasonable too; most of the plates are about $ 10 or less(I think the ribeye plate is the most expensive at $ 14). For this price, the plates normally come with the entrée of your choice(steak, chicken, shrimp), a scoop of rice, pasta salad, grilled zucchini and onions. I normally get the steak or a steak and chicken mix. The meat is cooked well, when the meat is still juicy and tender(not dry) and the meat is seasoned well. Plus, the meat is cooked with garlic! I love garlic! If the seasoning is not enough, the plate also includes a special sauce to give it an additional flavor. I’m not sure what the sauce is… I just know that it is amazing. I’ll dip the meat and grilled veggies into the sauce… any extra is poured over the rice. The grilled veggies are a nice pairing with the meat(and makes me feel like I’m eating a little healthier since, you know, veggies). The pasta salad, while not the typical side dish with teppanyaki, is still a nice addition to the plate lunch. I think they use a nice vinaigrette to season the pasta. Overall, for less than $ 15, you can get a delicious, filling meal that you can eat at home while binge watching your favorite TV shows. This is definitely one of my favorite go-to spots for a take out dinner.

Corn was from a can Steak wasn’t the best tasting I’ve had but it’s portions were worth the 10 dollars One piece of grilled zucchini and a sliced grilled onion over white rice that wasn’t very tasty. This is all based off of a single visit, I have not tried their other options. I remember coming here a year or two ago and the food being a lot tastier !

A lot of food trucks have come and gone(obviously from my other reviews on this list). But the Blue Teppanyaki Truck is a trooper. They’ve been part of the university ave scene for some time now, With its unassuming exterior, you won’t find any glaring signage anywhere. Just look for the blue wagon parked in front of the old Yogurtland, usually by 4 p.m. The menu features regular and mini plates including steaks, shrimp, pork chops, portabello mushrooms, grilled veggies and even breakfast plates. You can also get combos. Sides include corn, grilled onions and zucchini. Prices are very reasonable and quality is almost as good as what you’re paying for at those high-end teppanyaki places. It’s a one-man operation so you should expect a wait if there are others ordering before you. You can also phone in your order, which I’ve done several times. Parking along the curb is hard to find so I usually park in those pay stalls behind the old Yogurtland. So if you’re passing by the area during dinnertime, give ‘em a try!

My boyfriend has recently started studying for his MCATs, which means we’re usually pull late nights at Sinclair Library at the University of Hawaii. I heard rave reviews from my friends about this food truck, and finally got to try them about a month ago. I ordered the mini steak plate($ 6), which included a generous portion of steak, corn, grilled veggies, and rice. I really couldn’t ask for a more satisfying dinner, especially since most of the food establishments at or around walking distance of UH close early! The quality of the steak is definitely not comparable to a restaurant like Tanaka of Tokyo, but it’s the closest I’ve tasted for a reasonable price. My boyfriend and I decided to eat here again tonight. He ordered the regular steak plate($ 9) and I got the all day breakfast special($ 6). Once again, I was super satisfied with my meal. My boyfriend’s steak plate had a whole bunch of steak, corn, and 3 heaping scoops of rice. My dinner included pieces of Portuguese sausage, spam, hot dog, one egg, two scoops of rice, and corn. I HIGHLY recommend this food truck and will definitely be going back in the near future!

I’ve tried both the garlic chicken and the steak plates. And they are both really delicious. The seasoning is sublime and never bland. I usually get a side of mushrooms or a side of eggplant to go with it. My only complaint is that sometimes their rice is a bit dry. I think it may be because it’s either old or overcooked. But for $ 7 for a large plate, it’s a great deal.

There food has nothing to complaint! They has really good steak plate with kinda lots of meat for only $ 9. Also there are few pieces of zucchini, potato and corn. Their chicken plate is good as well. Usually people order through phone in advance. Overall, everything is good, it is just a little bit oily.

First try at this vendor at the Hawaii Kai Saturday Market. His menu was quite limited for breakfast and was a no frills plate of bacon, Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice. Everything was cooked well and was tasty, but I have gotten used to something a little more exciting for my Saturday visit to the market. He also only had two bottles of water for sale and I was the first customer!

***REVIEWBASEDONBREAKFASTEXPERIENCE*** My fellow Unilocal friend and I have been coming to Hawaii Kai Farmers Market after our hikes on Saturdays and usually have breakfast plates from Santacruz Taco Co. Santa Cruz Co recently came out with a blue truck. When we pulled in the parking lot this past Saturday there was a blue truck but it wasn’t Santacruz Taco Co. as this truck was a little run down. Come to find out there was a Chinese man and when we asked, he advised us «The Blue Truck Teppanyaki.» My Yeep friend and I couldn’t decide what to have for breakfast and we both decided to give this place a try as well as Kiawe Pizza. Because they were both new to us we’d share our plates. The breakfast plate here is ONE egg cooked to order, Spam, Portuguese sausage, bacon and rice with a side kale salad. If you want another egg it’s $ 1 more(costly if you ask me). We were both hungry so we had 2 eggs and our plate was $ 7. And for short grain rice, it was awfully dry. No moisture that I’m used to. This type of rice is good for fried rice. We had no runny egg yolk to mix with the«dry» rice. Disappointment… The food came out quite quickly and the food was so-so. First of all, our over-easy eggs were overcooked and the yolk was almost solid. In the attached picture, the eggs have a brown crust and sat on the griddle too long. The griddle wasn’t cleaned properly because the eggs were«sweet». At first we couldn’t figure out what was sooooo sweet in the breakfast plate and I then realized it was the eggs! Each bite we took there was a sugar sweetness. Not good at all… The breakfast meats were caramelized and browned very well. It came with some caramelized garlic bits that were very yummy and I enjoyed the kale salad. Bacon was cooked well, too. Overall, the plate was satisfactory but execution could use improvement. With the high cost for this breakfast plate when overhead is inexpensive, this wasn’t really worth it in my opinion.

I love The Blue Truck Teppanyaki. With food trucks trending nowadays, I’m happy that one truck maintains the spirit of genuine plate lunches. Yeah, Eat the Street trucks are neat and interesting to look at, but do they get you full? Hmm maybe not. I ordered the ahi once, and most recently I ordered the garlic shrimp. Both plates probably would have gone for a couple bucks more at other trucks, so the value was there. Also, you can do so much worse on campus that it’s worth it to walk a little extra to buy this food. In terms of taste, you can’t expect five star food from a food truck, especially if it’s clearly more on the«dive» end of the hipster rating scale, but if you’re in the mood, go for BTT. Every time I go it’s not too busy, but I would probably wait in line for food anyway. In the future I hope to try the steak plate(I think steak is a good indicator of quality since a lot of places cop out and use fatty meat). Definitely recommend this truck because it’s kind of an institution in the UH area.

Don’t let appearances deceive you — it’s a beat-up-looking blue food truck, but their teppanyaki is freaking delicious. I work near UH Manoa and usually work late on Thursday nights. When school isn’t in session, I’m severely limited with takeout dinner options within walking distance. Cue The Blue Truck. They’re usually parked outside the former Yogurtland on University Avenue every night from 5:00 to 8:00. Since I normally work late Thursdays, they’ve become my go-to Thursday night dinner spot. The eggplant chicken plate is my favorite. It comes with a tiny cup of thickened teri/soy sauce that I normally drown my corn and zucchini in, even though I probably shouldn’t — good thing the sauce cup really is tiny. At $ 7, it’s a fair amount of veggies, meat, and rice — three scoops! Carbo load! Several of their plates have«mini» options; the eggplant chicken is not one of them. Fortunately, I’m usually starving on Thursday nights. Some tips: You can also call ahead to place your order, so you’re not waiting for them to cook your food — they make to order. Also, it’s cash only. There’s an ATM in the smoothie place next to I Heart Yogurt, but save yourself the fees and make sure you have cash in hand before stopping by the Blue Truck.

Thanks Unilocal! The grilled portabello was delicious! The service was friendly, the price was decent. The accompanying rice and corn was boring and cold. C’mon, I know you can do better than that! I would much rather have a green salad. So 4 stars instead of 5. Oh yeah, I also was unimpressed by the canned«iced coffee.» Please upgrade that somehow. You can eat at the nearby outdoor tables by the yogurt shop… it’s really communal seating not exclusive to the yogurt place. Then you can get yogurt!

I have no friends. I was hungry. I decided to go walk around and look for a place to eat. I was working in downtown that day and I’ve always remembered there being food trucks along the side of the post office building. There were three trucks there that day. Decisions, decisions. I remembered my old architecture friend(he’s too cool to hang out with me now days) would always eat at this place since they were always by UH at night. He always raved about their food. So I decided to try what they called the«volcano». It was cheese on top of steak on top of eggplant on top of zucchini on top of rice with corn and tomatoes. In my head, it sounded really good, but I thought it was just alright. Gotta compliment them for trying something different though. But I think next time I go back, I’ll probably just get the chicken. It smelt really good.

Just like Tony G. stated, I too only had their garlic chicken plate and it is always very satisfying. Two scoops of rice, corn, onions and zucchini. My bf gets the steak and chicken combo and he finishes it in no time flat. I suggest you call in your order. It takes about 15 minutes to make your plate and even then, you have to wait a little bit. I don’t mind though since its usually only him cooking and taking orders. Price is decent. $ 6 dollars for the chicken, couple more for the combos. Always satisfied when I eat here.

I looooove tenpanyaki and rarely get to eat it because the teppanyaki restaurants are all pretty expensive. But thanks to The One and Only Teppanyaki Wagon, I can get my fill at a fraction of the cost of places like Tanaka of Tokyo, Kobe, Benihana, and Restaurant Suntory. Everything is made to order, so expect to wait a while for your food. I was lucky and caught them early before the dinner time rush, so the wait was minimal, but maximum on taste!

I usually see this truck parked on the street next to Waipio Costco on the weekends, but today, it was parked in back of the downtown post office during lunch time, so I decided to try it. There are limited choices, only steak, chicken or shrimp, and some side order dishes like mushrooms, eggplant, onions, etc. I wasn’t really craving for steak, so I decided to order the chicken instead since he said it was his favorite: Chicken with eggplant — 3 stars — For $ 7 I ordered the chicken with eggplant. Nice thing is that it’s cooked to order, so it’s fresh and hot. Comes with 2 scoops of white rice, corn and a slice of onion with two pieces of zuchinni. It didn’t have much of a taste alone, but when I dipped the chicken and veggies in the soy mixture type of sauce that comes with it, it’s brings out the flavor. The serving was just right to fill me, but not a full heaping plate. Service — 5 stars — cooked to order, so the food is fresh. It only took 10 minutes to cook since I went there early to beat the crowd. Was neat watching him fry the chicken and add all the sauces with it. I give this young man credit for having a lunch truck business(either that, or he just looks young, and I’m unfortunately getting much older). He was very friendly, nice and courteous.
