This good-sized shop has a wide range of antiques and collectibles — mostly Hawaiiana, but there were plenty of general things as well. The stores wares are all in various survival states, but most are in at least decent shape. Prices vary significantly. The owners are warm and friendly.

Just picked up a great vintage photo of Diamond Head. Ken framed it in a beautiful solid koa frame for me. This is such a cool shop! Will definitely be back.

There is 3 sections to the store! Ladies, go to the very back. Super cute! Well kept vintage store, im totally in love! Patches, super cool collection of Hawaii things, good prices. Old books, toys, great condition. Old house things, crafts, clothes, blankets, décor, old signs. And the dude running it is cool. Nice space, kept clean, street parking though!

Stumbled upon this on my way to Wabi-Sabi… and found most of my gifts here! I had to edit myself and put back the ukelele I wanted for myself, as it was the season for giving. I could have spent so many more hours here. If you enjoy vintage at a reasonable price, definitely check this store!

Ken Furukawa is an avid, longtime collector of surf memorabilia who opened this shop once he realized he was getting older and that his«collecting habit needs to turn into a selling habit.*» Housed next to the historic Queen’s Theatre in Kaimuki, his store specializes in vintage collectibles and Hawaiiana and they buy/sell/consign. The store is composed of two rooms that have a good sampling of various surf trophies, koa furniture, jewelry(including Ming’s of Honolulu), books, hula nodders, old glass bottles from Hawai’i, glass floats, and so much more! For a small-time appreciator and collector of vintage Hawaiiana like myself, it was a dream walking in here on a random Saturday afternoon after getting my hair did at Paul Mitchell The School right across the street. All of the items in the store has some relationship with Hawai’i. From Dorothy Okumoto white porcelain vases … to Marwal Polynesian heads … to wooden floral perfume bottles … to hula girl salt and pepper shakers … to a set of koa furniture he has on sale for $ 5,000(it’s not in the store, but a picture of it is; if you know how vintage koa furniture goes, this is a STEAL) … I want it all! Hell with diamond rings and Louis Vuitton purses, I’d rather come here and blow my nonexistent dollars! Talking stories with Ken revealed to me what a very, very down-to-earth and humble person he is — he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to vintage surfing and Hawaiian items, but does not show any type of bravado when talking about it. The items in his shop are VERY reasonably-priced compared to places like Mauna Kea Galleries which highly inflates their prices. He has the customer’s best interests at heart. * There is a YouTube video I came across explaining what his store is about and how he came about establishing it: All of this is why I felt so comfortable and confident when it came for me to part with a substantial portion of my Hawaiiana collection. I consigned several containers’ worth of stuff and he helped me established fair prices for them, explained the consignment policy, kept meticulous records of each item, and also pointed out a few items that were broken that I was unaware of. I received my first check a few weeks ago and am happy that someone else can purchase my crap and truly appreciate it in ways that I wasn’t able to. :) They also participate in the monthly Third Fridays in Kaimuki where the store is open during the evening and they have tables set up full of items for sale. Oddly enough, there’s also another shop WITHIN the shop called A Place of Vintage that is housed in a third room in the very back. It’s entrance and exit is the same as for Surf N Hula. A Place of Vintage specializes in Victorian, rustic country and shabby chic. For more details, you can check my review here: Since my first visit, I’ve come back several times to buy, browse, and consign my stuffs. If you’re a antique/vintage/Hawaiiana buff, it’s def work checking out! THEESSENTIALS — Closed on Sundays. Open Mon — Fri from 10 am — 5 pm and Sat. from 10 am — 4 pm. — Ken is only in the shop on Saturdays. — Parking is wherever you can find it! There’s the large public municipal parking lot across the street behind Big City Diner, metered parking in front of the store, free parking on any of the side streets, or the private lot near the Bank of Hawai’i. — Cash and major credit cards are accepted!
