I’m a chocoholic. I get depressed, listless and shiver if I don’t eat a piece of chocolate daily! Thankfully, See’s Candies in Kahala Mall came to the rescue as I was exiting from having my haircut this afternoon. It was a hot and sunny day and I wanted to get in a quick walk around Diamond Head State Monument yet as I walked by the storefront, I felt drawn to the chocolate treats waiting inside. So, I entered into the store as my eyes danced with glee and my mouth began to water… oh, what should I order? Let me say that I was immediately greeted by a very friendly, exuberant and happy employee, Art. I think that if I were working in this store, they’d let me go right away because I might buy out some selections, er, eat into the profits. But, Art must’ve taken a chocolate«Happy» pill or maybe the aroma of all of the theobromines must have gotten into him. He cheerfully offered me some free samples, both dark chocolate, which in my book deserves the 5-stars. I inquired whether or not See’s made a dark chocolate Rocky Road confection. Art said that there have been several requests but none has been produced. Boohoo! Well, not to be deterred, as I munched on my two dark chocolate samples, I ordered a pound of milk chocolate Rocky Road. Oh, no… don’t think that it’s all for me(wink, wink)! He carefully packaged and weighed my purchased and I was out the door within a few minutes. I was afraid that if I stayed in longer, I’d find other treats to buy. Phew…I made it home with the pound of Rocky Road, untouched. Well, save for that little rip of seal that my husband noticed right away. Tsk!

Uhm, awkward! As we were paying for our Christmas candies, the cashier asked if we wanted a lollipop. I thought to myself, «Awww! That’s SO nice!» So I said, «Yeah, sure, I’ll have a lollipop” – thinking they were giving a free lollipop to all their customers because of the holiday season. THEN she told me it’s 80 cents and do I want chocolate, butterscotch or vanilla? Now, dude, seriously. 80 cents is nothing. But feeling like you got tricked into buying something?(And are you going to say, «What? 80 cents? Oh, no thank you.» Of course not. I didn’t.) Definitely a yucky, weird feeling. :(

Stopped in to redeem a gift certificate for 1 lb box of See’s candy. When I walked in there’s a line of about five people purchasing candies. It’s the first time I’ve seen a line form here. It’s generally not that busy, but that day it was bustling. I like that they have little name tags next to every single candy in their display case. Makes ordering that much easy. I decided to make it even easier and just get the standard 1lb box of Nut and Chews. If you do decide to check this place out you should try the See’s Awesome chocolate bars. They have three types of Awesome Bars available at $ 1.45+tax each. Choose from Nut & Chew Bar, Walnut Square Bar or the Peanut Brittle Bar. Just scrumptious. I love the Awesome Nut and Chew bar. It reminds me of Annabelle’s Look! chocolate candy but softer and chewier. The Walnut Square Bar is awesomely good too. Kinda like a chocolate turtle but with walnuts instead of pecans. Scary because I ate the entire Walnut Square at one time instead of taking a nibble here and there. It’s that good. Even with the store bustling they still managed to hand out free chocolates. Service is nice and friendly here. Will be back again. 31 Unilocal Review Challenge(30⁄31).

Any place that will give you free chocolate just for coming into the store gets 5 stars. I know there is better chocolate out there, but I give Sees 5 stars for longevity, friendliness and just good memories! When my oldest son was little — each time he got a hair cut we would go and get a See’s lolly pop. Now we have passed that tradition on to the younger son. You should see their eyes when they get that little piece of chocolate — you would think they are getting a golden nugget! I like dark chocolate the best and their rum nougat is great — but seasonal. I also like the almond squares and dark chocolate bridge mix.

Loved the chocolate and the people at this location. Everyone seemed very nice and you get a free chocolate for just entering the store! I liked that. The store is a little small and will get packed on the holidays so be prepared. I really enjoyed the truffle!

Though See’s is a chain, at Kahala Mall it feels like a corner candy shop. It’s comfortably small, the location related to the parking lot is great, and it has the most helpful and friendly staff. I had a craving for a box of dark chocolate, but it was after 5 so I didn’t know if they would be open. They’re open until 9PM on the weekdays! Take note, people going on dates, even in the evening See’s is there for the procrastinators/forgetful. The selection was good. Lots of specialty items, a huge variety of single truffles, and it was all organized and clean. This store rocks! Did I mention the free sample candy upon entering? And not the quartered truffle you might get at other shops. They give you a whole one!

As I walk through those white double doors a bell jingles. The lady behind the counter greets me as she walks up to me bearing gifts of a delicious milk chocolate caramel. I had forgotten that See’s gives everyone a free sample as they walk in the door. Now that’s what I call excellent customer service! And their lollipops are AWESOME! I have never had a candy from See’s I didn’t like. During the Christmas Season, I always check out See’s to get gifts for when I’m too tired to make it myself… and to get a free sample and brief reprise from the mad, mad, holiday season rush!

They do have good chocolates but I think their stores are way too small, especially the one in Kahala Mall. I remember one time, my mom made me go in there with her and it was super crowded to the point that the line was almost going out the door. After about 20 minutes of waiting in line and getting a sample of this caramel marshmallow thing, my mom orders 2 pieces of nougat candy. Man I was so salty after that. I gotta admit the nougat was good, but I don’t think it was worth standing in the line for that long.

As I sit in my apartment thinking about what to write about I am inspired by a white box of See’s Candies that sits upon my table. I was given a See’s gift certificate by my landlord for Christmas and recently redeemed it. I thought that I was going to get a pre-packaged box of candy but was able to pick and choose which candies I wanted for my 1 pound box of deliciousness. Oh yes, this was going to get dangerous. The guy helping to pack my box at the counter was really helpful and didn’t rush me at all. Intermittently as I carefully chose my candies, he’d hand me a new candy to sample. This pleased my tummy which told my heart and head to pick chocolate covered honey comb, rocky road, thin mints, pralines and a wonderful assortment of treats. As you can imagine, it will take me awhile to go through a box of chocolates but I look forward to eating them each day and am always excited! I always though that See’s Candies was just for old ladies like my Grandma who have to wear special headphones when they watch TV because their hearing aides are broken. Well heck, maybe there is a little old lady in me who just needs some chocolates in a nice white box. You have gained a new fan and boy do I loooove my landlord!

Love this location nestled between Long’s and Macy’s. Always delighted to receive samples(more please!) My favorites hands down are: Nuts & Chews, Awesome Nut and Chew Bar, Awesome Walnut Square Bar; and of course all of their white and dark chocolate pieces of heaven. Old school comfort never gets old. Happy tasting!

Love those classy ladies in white and now my niece is one of them. I was so proud yesterday dropping her off at work, she’s 17 and she’ll be off to college next year. I learned that you can go to See’s and ask to sample any chocolate confection and they have to let you try it. I thought they only offer samples for items they’re trying to push. Not so, my niece tells me she usually only offers one type of sample because that’s the one chocolate she learned for the day and knows every ingredient. She hasn’t learned all of them yet. Well I love See’s Candy, I think the prices and selection are good. Compared to Godiva which is expensive to say the least. The almond royals are my favorite, give them a try. Next time you’re in Kahala Mall, stop by See’s. Who wouldn’t want a box of chocolate for Christmas?
