This is one of my favorite Irish bars to come to! That being said, word to the wise: O’tool’s is a real bar. It’s one of the few establishments I know of that you can still smoke in. If you can’t tolerate smoking, this is not the place for you. The atmosphere in O’Tool’s is exactly what you expect from an Irish pub. Good sized bar and lots of high top and regular tables in here. It may look a little grisly, but this bar has a charm to it that not a lot of others have. Live music almost every night and comedy show on Fridays guarantee a good time. $ 4 Irish whisky of the month and other monthly drink specials keep me coming back! Bartenders and waitresses are hard working and attentive! All in all this is an awesome place to have a few drinks, a cigar, and enjoy a real bar atmosphere.

I always thought a pub and a bar were the same thing, interchangeable words. I was quite wrong. This isn’t my usual stop on a weekend evening but some how I ended up here. Let’s put it this way, do you smoke? No, turn away now. Yes, hope you don’t wear contact lens then. Well I sure feel like i smoked a whole pack in the short time I spent here. I can see why smoking is not allowed inside usually. The staff was friendly, so friendly they even told me they wear spandex under the kilt. Sweet, good to know! $ 10 minimum for credit/debit cards. Next door was an empty parking lot with $ 10 parking. We opted for the free parking across the street. I usually avoid this area of the whole Chinatown district but it was one block from Ala Moana and didn’t seem bad. They provide a shuttle that takes you to other Irish pubs for a crawl, make sure to tip the driver.

Might be a great place. I did not go in as there was a man smoking a huge cigar as I walked in the door and it made me sick so I left.

If you want a great place to kick back then look no further. O’Toole’s is the place to be for great bands and great spirits. A must visit when in Honolulu.

Tonight was a disaster at this bar. To start off, the bartender was atleast 10 drinks deep and hopped up on Coke or pain killers and she double charged 4 of my friends. We were laughing at her and took it to the manager who told her to get her fuc***** shit together and we were amazed at the device we got. Another friend of mine went to get a pitcher up at the bar while others were listening to the live music and the manager/bartender smirked/chuckled at him and told him a beer was 4.75. He said okay that’s alright and the bartender snapped at him and said it better be. This place is a total joke. Don’t ever come here if you decide to come to downtown.

We often drop in her for a cool drink. On the weekends, they sometimes have free hot dogs, chili, meatballs, chips etc. as well. The bartenders are great. Everyone is very friendly. It can be a bit loud or crowded at night. Sometimes they have great bands. I wish they weren’t so smoky, but apparently the owner of these 3 Irish bars in town — this one as well as Kelley O’Neal’s and Irish Rose– doesn’t want to bother enforcing the«no smoking» laws and the city leaves him alone. This is why we usually go to Murphy’s instead. They have food, so they don’t allow smoking.

The music will call you home, the drinks will stir your«spirits,» and the lasses will turn your heart to joy! Here the spirit of the Isles resounds, and the faithful are drawn home…

A real bar for those who remember what a real bar was like or those who want to step outside their comfort zone and risk a non-sterile, Irish/American tradition. The world is becoming smoke free. That’s not a bad thing. However, there should be an oases or two in every self respecting Chinatown where you can find an Irish bar that allows the enjoyment of a good cigar with that whiskey and pint of Guinness. I too dislike the smell of chemical ridden cigarettes but I enjoy a Libertarian environment now and then. There are plenty of places for the faint of heart or the recent Montessori graduate to have a smoke free pink cocktail experience. The food is good«bar food’. The entertainment is often awesome. Light up, don’t let your friends«make ass» and enjoy your evening.

A great place to grade papers on a Sunday. Quiet with free food! It is a smoking bar, which is the only drawback. Friendly service.

Old low key bar. Great music. Decent selection of beers — although a bit on the pricey side — I suppose to pay for the music. My problem is the smoking and pretty much stopped going there for this reason. Too bad, I like the place otherwise.

Great local music in a fun pub atmosphere. They have a private room in the back for weekly WHISKYTASTING& of course, private parties. I’ve been here when its crazy busy and I’ve also been here during the week to get a late night drink & read a book in the corner. Something for everyone here :)

I came in because I had 30min to kill. Wish I hadn’t. Rude bartender, flat Stella, and musty cigar smoke. When she asked if I wanted to stay a tab she said sarcastically«all righty then». Why didn’t I go to Murphy’s Bar & Grill?

O’Tooles is the trailer park Irish Bar that your friend Duncan loves to go to because it’s «authentic»(smokey) and has traditional pub music(bartender’s iPhone that stops playing when she gets a call). Well if you’re trying to class it up you’re better off across the street at Murphys. You don’t come to O’Tooles for the generous servings of second-hand smoke, you come for strong drinks and comedy in the backroom on Fridays. Be aware that on First Fridays the comedy show is Open Mic which is unpolished amateurs; but that can be a lot of fun as it was for us.

Great bar. Definitely something different from all the«local» wannabe bars in Waikiki that charge an absurd amount of money for watered down drinks. The service is always great and the atmosphere is fun and laid back.

This place is a great get away from the typical tourist scene. I don’t enjoy the fact that people smoke inside. Minus one star… It’s a sausage fest. If you’re a girl who wants to find a military husband, try coming here, they’re drunk and douchey after 1am. The bouncer removed a «douchey» guy after he fell over my table and knocked over the round of drinks I had just purchased All jokes aside, it’s a cool place, they even have live music.

Strongbow on tap. Nuff said. Red Sox bar, too. Even better. Unilocal says this review need more words in order to be more than just a tip. This should be enough.

Great bar! And I can smoke a cigar! Once in a while the music is a little loud and obnoxious, but the staff is very active and keep the drinks coming without having to ask. The service here is top notch! Oh yeah, and if you don’t like smoke, don’t walk in to the bar, sit next to my table while I’m smoking a cigar, and then start making dramatic choking noises.

O’Toole’s is a throw back to the days of olde… when people could smoke in bars. The bar itself is nice, the setup is awesome, and the beers come out ice cold but that smoke… And this was cigarette smoke, not cigar smoke. It’s probably been about 7 – 8 years since the law banning smoking indoors was passed. I forgot how much going to bars in those days sucked. O’Toole’s gave me an unwelcome reminder. Thanks?

HOWTOBEIRISH… LESSON #1 A «pint of Gat» is another name for Guinness. On that note, when drinking Guinness, look towards the horizon so you don’t drink the head. And if someone asks if it’s good«Gat», and you’re not sure how to judge it, simply respond with«sure look it.» — Irish Central For example… Bartender: «Watcha Havin?» Irish Me: «Give me two pints ‘o Gat ‘n a bottle ‘o Bulmers.» O’toole’s… O’… O’toole’s… You sound Irish, but are you Dublin Irish enough for this Irish cat? Since my papa’s papa was a pint O’ Irish that gives me a maybe 9% authority on things Ireland! Plus, U2’s me band, Father O’Malley’s me priest, I heart corned beef ‘n cabbage, and O’boy, how I LOOOVE me some GAT! My Irish cred’s now 99%, so… O’toole’s Pub is usually my backup plan if nothing’s going on at Murphy’s Bar & Grill. Just a leprechaun stroll across the cobblers. O’toole’s is best described as a «poor man’s» Murphy’s. More divey, darker, dingier… Catch my drift? Not bad, but just another average Irish Pub. Sometimes live music can bring in the crowds, but accompanied by a cover charge. In my half O’ dozen trips to O’toole’s it was always a wild mess. Hooligans on the left & Hooligans on the right. Heck… Maybe I should just avoid St. Paddy’s Day and cover nights. O’sigh. O’Good O’toole’s: –Nice cold drinks –Good Gat –IRA Brick Walls –Laidback O’Bad O’toole’s: –Smoking allowed(unless it’s changed) –Can get Hooligan crowded –Cover charge on some nights –O’verwhelmed staff on busy nights –Smoking allowedX2(O’plenty coughing) So, overall a decent Irish Pub for some Gat in the heart O’ the Pacific. Come one, come all… Just bring some extra Euro for the cover ‘n a reliable Gas mask! O’CHEERS! O’ UnilocalREVIEW #174

One of the few bars in town that still let me kick back, and enjoy a nice cigar. The staff is awesome, they regularly have good live music, the place is well kept, and the drinks are cold. They also have a nice private back room which I have attended numerous events in, and while it can get a bit… smokey when they host their cigar events, it is still one of the better venues in town.
