Amazing sunset view, elegantly casual restaurant ambiance, awesome service Definitely plan on making reservations at Ocean House for sunset — you will not be disappointed by the view! Per the weather service, sunset was at 6:18p, and we had 6:00pm reservations; while our seats were great, the people that had 5pm or 5:30pm reservations had best seats in the house. Also, there’s a Prime Rib special, but only good if seated by 6:00pm(which we missed). Upon arrival, our server knew we wanted to watch the sunset, so our cocktails were expedited and we got them just in time for the amazing sunset. I ordered the catch of the day, $ 39 Onaga fish with coconut curry shiitake mushrooms, maui onion and sweet potato — While presentation was gorgeous, it tasted average and was a little dry. I also ordered a side of sauteed kale with garlic, but it had to be sent back it was incredibly too salty. The server kindly offered to replace it or just remove it from the bill; I chose the latter as it would’ve taken too long for a replacement to complement the meal. Again, this is a must if coming to Waikiki!

I made reservations for my family to have dinner here to celebrate my sister’s surprise Yakudoshi party. I’ve never been here but I saw a lot of good reviews and it had four stars so I thought we would try it. My mom made reservations for 6:30 and we arrived a little before 6:30. We checked in and they made us wait on the side. We were waiting for about 15 minutes and I was getting worried. It was supposed to be a surprise and I didn’t want to still be waiting for a table when she walked in. I went up to talk to the hostess again. She went to go check on the table and we weren’t seated right away. I had to text the person bringing my sister to come later. We finally got in and they seat us in a nice private room. It was perfect for our party size. The waiters were very attentive once we sat down. The food was also very tasty. I had the seafood Lau Lau. That was delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal. In addition to the great service at dinner and great food, they take your picture for you. They came to our table to take a picture of us with their camera. Then at the end of dinner, they print out the photos for you to take home, free of charge! I would definitely recommend this place to others, just be aware that you will have to wait for your table a bit even if you have reservations.

Prime rib was excellent. I had the Ocean House cut and kids had the Pulehu. Peppered seared scallops(Appetizer) was a huge hit with the family. Service was great and beachside table provided a spectacular view. Our waiter made a special effort to make my birthday a memorable experience. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Prices were reasonable, especially for Waikiki. We will be back for the next special occasion.

Ocean House was the second of 2 Restaurant Week Hawaii anniversary dinners for my bf & I(this was back in November 2015). We were debating between 5 different restaurants, & could only choose 2. After reading the reviews for OH on Unilocal,we were a little nervous, but the RW menu sounded way to good to pass up. Parking. Your ONLY choice is to valet at the hotel. We asked. View. If you can get past the people walking by, the view is probably great. I say«probably» because when we went, it was pouring rain in the beginning so there was no view of the sunset :(There were also a lack of people walking by which was nice, but I’m guessing that’s because of the rain… Service. Service is great. We had Jiago, & he was friendly, funny & attentive. Food. Good, for the most part. The bf & I decided to try everything on the RW menu: seafood chowder(I wouldn’t get this again. Tasted a little worse than canned clam chowder…), organic greens w/minted guava vinaigrette(I WOULD get this again. Pretty big salad & the dressing is yummy.), Hawaiian sea salt slow roasted Angus prime rib(we loved this… It was all so good, even the mashed potatoes), macadamia nut & crab crusted mahi(my bf liked this, but not as much as the prime rib. I, however, loved this one. But as is the case at most fine dining restaurants, it needs a little more of that lilikoi sauce! Must be a fine dining thing. What’s up with that? More sauce, people!), & lastly the lava cake(which we both thought were delicious). Ambience. I suppose depending on where you’re seated, this may not be the most romantic of restaurants. My bf & I were seated in a corner, so it was romantic for us. However, being seated in a corner means you’re next to the open air space & when it’s windy, & raining, that’s not sways a good thing. Our server tried to slide a couple of the window panels back out in attempt to shield us from the rain, but I guess the panels are really hard to get back out, so he could only pull out 2 of them & they’re kinda spaced apart so we were still getting sprinkled. At least it wasn’t pouring, & our server really tried. A for effort. Everything overall was good, & if you’re thinking of eating here, it’s worth a shot :)

Really bad service, doesn’t won’t customer to finish their food, just rush people out so they can have more customers. Bad attitude and bad service lead to bad mood for customers and really bad feeling consider most of people are having vocation here. Not recommend at all!!!

Superb dining right on the beach, with spectacular views, and friendly service. Our waiter took a photo of my husband and I with diamond head in the background and presented it to us at the end of our delicious meal. A great spot to dine for any occasion.

Our waiter was very friendly. The staff up front was nice. My boyfriend had the prime rib and he said it was ok and that outback was better. I had the butterfish it tasted good. Couldn’t taste the lilikoi. I was and still am disappointed in the food. The butterfish was NOT worth $ 38.It was just fish on top of sushi rice. I would probably never ever go there again.

Great views and nice setting. Unfortunately, menu is heavy and uninspired. Fried appetizers and fried main entrée with local fish. What? Poor presentation of main dish. $ 35 MahiMahi strips deep fried and served on a mound of purple sweet potatoes? Even worse, my wife’s prime rib was sent to the table and it was red raw. She ordered medium rare! Just plain no quality control at the window. Could make someone sick if not properly handled! Saved by the view. Clearly

Four stars because it’s a little too close to the people on the beach. So close that the shower was six feet away from our table, and we awkwardly smiled at eachother and tried to pretend it was there or wasn’t in use… Otherwise, it is literally like a house on the beach. Cozy and comfortable. The sunset view makes this restaurant worth the money. This place is for the seafood lovers. My boyfriend ordered the ocean house steak, which he ended up adding salt and pepper to. He said it wasn’t bad… he just wanted a liiiiiiittle tiny bit more flavor. I had the parmesan crusted fish. Yummy yummy yummy. And very large portions! For dessert we ordered the cobbler and the lava cake. Cobbler– sweet and crunchy as expected. Wonderful. Lava cake… no lava. It was more like pudding in the middle of the cake that did not flow out like lava. I was even animated and upon the first bite exhaled, «LAVAAAA!» With no lava oozing out. Still tasted good though! The service is also great. Very friendly and welcoming. Not overly proper like at extremely fancy places, but the staff make you feel comfortable. Again, living to the name ocean HOUSE. You will get your money’s worth here. Note: We went here for our 7 year dating anniversary. From the pictures, we expected something romantic. However, the atmosphere is loud and homey. Once again, not a bad thing, but if you are looking for romantic and intimate, this may not be the place. Great for laughter and loud socializing. This was not the reason for four stars… four stars for being so close to people showering on the beach.

We had a fantastic time. Had birthday party for cousin for Sunset Dinner. Party of 13. Our waiter George was awesome. Very attentive, funny and excellent service. Our food was delicious. Drinks were great. Perfect place to watch the Sunset while eating dinner. I would definately recommend coming here. 2 thumbs up for sure!

We celebrated Hungrier Half’s 40-something bday there on the last day of Restaurant Week 2015. Ocean House gets an A for effort but falls short where it kind of matters: the food. I was terrified about taking him there after reading several poor reviews, but I had these reservations for some time and figured it would be too late to find somewhere else. I chose OH because he loves being outdoors and it looked beautiful in the pics. Lucky me, all it did was rain the entire day and night so that plan was blown. The staff was trying really hard to be accommodating and show extra care. Our waiter, George, was attentive and courteous at all times. We couldn’t ask for more from a waiter. His servers were also very kind. The manager even came by to check on us once. For these reasons, Ocean House gets 3 stars. Where they lose the two stars: The general feeling of the restaurant is not romantic at all. The seats are made of a really tacky(literally), cheap material that looks and feels dirty. I’m not sure if it was from the humidity in the air, but I’m sure our seats were wet. Think: Zippy’s dining room seats, but with the added touch of 1970s flowers. I ordered peppered sea scallops for an appetizer. It was difficult to eat. It looked like scallops in mushroom gravy – have you ever seen scallops in brown mushroom gravy? But it wasn’t exactly brown gravy – I don’t think. I think it was supposed to be a marsala sauce but it was SOOOOOPER salty. Then I bit into the scallop which was«peppered» and it was SOOOOOOPER spicy because it was crusted in black pepper. The whole dish was just tough on the palate. For dinner, I had the seafood laulau which I can only describe as interesting. I ate the purple sweet potato and a little bit of the fish that was sandwiched between rice and something that would normally be luau leaves, but I’m not sure if that’s what that was. It wasn’t bad. It was just… interesting. He had the prime rib and didn’t complain. So all in all, the food was hit or miss, the people were great, the ambiance is meh, but with an exquisite view if you go when it isn’t hurricane weather. So take it or leave it.

I came to Ocean House for the first time during Restaurant Week 2015. Rarely do I visit the Outrigger Reef Hotel and was delighted to learn that Ocean House has such a great view of the Waikiki sunset and Diamond Head. We were treated to a spectacular sunset with our dinner. I ordered the Clam Chower, and the Macadamia Nut and Crab Crusted Mahi Mahi. The chowder was delicious and they offered it with a side of sherry wine to enhance the flavor. The Mahi Mahi was cooked just right and was satisfying in flavor and texture. My friend ordered the Hawaiian Sea Salt Slow Roasted Angus Prime Rib. It was a good, quality piece of prime rib. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, but I give it high marks. For dessert, we had Uncle Moki’s Chocolate Lava Flow, a good balance of sweetness and chocolate. Service was very prompt and the staff was very attentive. I took note that our dirty dishes and silverware were removed in a very timely fashion. Your only option for parking at Outrigger is valet parking for $ 6, but in Waikiki that’s a good deal. Especially since you can take advantage of that parking and perhaps visit another spot in the area afterwards. Ocean House is one of those places that’s great for a special occasion or a date, especially at sunset or for Friday Fireworks. I’ll definitely be back.

The Ocean House is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Honolulu! Especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. Whenever I have friends in town or when I’m celebrating a birthday, especially with an «0» after it(30, 40, 50, etc), I always know exactly where to go for the perfect night. This place has it all — wonderful atmosphere, unbeatable view(right on the beach/ocean), to-die-for food and unparallelled service. Hint: I highly recommend that you schedule your reservation about 30 minutes prior to sunset. This will allow you to enjoy a daytime view of palm trees on the beach with sailboats drifting by in the ocean, followed by a gorgeous sunset(with a green flash if you’re lucky), and round out the evening with a nighttime view of Tiki torches against a backdrop of a Hawaiian sky filled with moon and stars. You will be serenaded by the ocean waves rolling up onto the beach as you dine with friends and family. It just doesn’t get better than that. There is one thing I said above that I need to elaborate on. It was an understatement when I said the service is unparallelled. The wait staff is always right there when you need them, yet they don’t hover(they give you your space). They are personable, yet professional and they really know their menu well. In fact, it feels as if you are being served by good friends who are truly passionate about providing you with the best possible experience. If you happen to be seated in Tiago’s(pronounced«Chago») section then you’re in luck! He’s a cornerstone of Ocean House and is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. In addition to his top-notch service, his amazing stories(ask him about how he came to Hawaii from Southern Brazil) and contagious sense of humor will keep you entertained all evening long. I just can’t recommend him enough. This evening was the first time in a while that I wasn’t in Tiago’s section, and was served by Nick instead. Nick is also a fantastic and very friendly server. I had my Goddaughter and family in town from Switzerland and Nick really did go above and beyond to make sure our night was absolutely perfect. I just really can’t say enough about the staff — all of them are the truly best of the best. :-)

Awesome service! We were celebrating our anniversary here. We took happy hour prime rip which was amazing. Complementary desert due to our anniversary was very delicious. They also made a picture of me and my beautiful wife, printed it out and gave it to us in a pretty frame. Love this place!

This was the worst service I have experienced in Hawaii. When we arrived there was only one other table in the restaurant filled. We waited 15 minutes for menus. We ordered after 30 minutes. We begged the busser for water and place settings at 45 minutes. When breakfast came an hour later, it was hardly a culinary masterpiece. All the kitchen had to do was toast three bagels and throw them on a plate. They did that. Finally. The Greek yogurt was not Greek. It was runny and flavorless. We had to ask for the coffee and juices that came with our breakfast. We never did get refills on our waters. We should find that busser again.

Didn’t get seated for over a half hour despite reservations because the guy didn’t actually check us in like he thought and told us to sit down. We asked 30 minutes after arriving when we realized everyone was getting seated before us. My husband was quite upset since it was the actual day of our anniversary and he wanted it special. A girl replaced the guy as the hostess and she was nice and try to fix the situation. She apologized but we were still upset the other guy lied to us about doing his job. Because of that fiasco, we got a switched to a better seat at a booth they faced the ocean. But my husband couldn’t understand why something bad would have to happen in order to get a good table, since we would’ve been tucked in a corner for our anniversary(stated on our reservations) and he probably would’ve walked out if that happened. Once seated, things got better. I had the Seafood Lau Lau which was good and would recommend. My husband had the prime rib which I thought was overpriced since it was nothing special and we have had better. It was a little more cooked than he wanted. Our waiter Tiago was nice. He gave us a complimentary dessert and a printed photo of us in a Shorebird paper frame(didn’t say Ocean House and Shorebird is actually their restaurant next door, but I didn’t care cause the photo itself almost made me cry). So it started bad, but ended up okay to good

My wife and I had dinner on Friday night. I retired after 45 years on Friday. We sadly are leaving Oahu, enough about that. As always the service was fantastic, Tiago our waiter, Kevin and David the managers made our last dinner fantastic. Mahalo nui loa for all the great times, Rick & Kay Schmidt

Not the worst place but not the greatest place either, definitely pricy but what do you expect from a seafood restaurant in Hawaii, especially in the tourist area. Our server was nice, we had some Japanese friends traveling with us from Japan and he offered them Japanese menus. They give you complimentary bread and butter which is nice because the food took awhile to come out(understandable though since we had larger party). The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. Although, I really liked the coconut lobster skewers. I probably would not come back though if I went back to Hawaii, except maybe to breakfast since the breakfast menu looks good and you can get a better ocean view. What I ordered: — Coconut lobster skewers — Grilled teriyaki ahi steak Pros: — Ocean view Cons: — Food was only okay for the price
