Everyone knows I am not a huge downtown or Chinatown fan. It’s not super clean and I’m a bit scared. However, I know all the good food is down here. What do I do?
I usually try to park in the Smith and Beretania Municipal lot but it fills fast. I never have luck with street parking. So this is my next go to parking spot. It’s on Maunakea next to Maunakea Marketplace, actually the entrance is by X-​Way to be exact.
It’s underground of course like most of the parking lots in Chinatown. It’s not as clean as the Smith Street one and there’s no elevator which makes me sad. You have to use the stairs which often smells like urine and when they door closes, it has the hugest echo ever. Creepy. I forgot how many levels it goes down, but the first level is reserved for HPD which I guess is good but that means I have to go down even further to look for an empty spot. And climb more stairs in that staircase.
You can exit on Hotel Street, Kekaulike Mall or Maunakea Street. However, you can only go back in via Kekaulike Mall or Maunakea Street. The rates are cheap and it’s closer to Chinatown than the Smith Street lot. Just bring a buddy, just in case. I do. If you’re not a scaredy cat like me… then it’s a cheap, convenient lot!
