It’s a typical sushi place, but for more options I recommend just going to genki sushi or kuru kuru sushi. We ate here twice(dine in) & came in around 7pm. Its usually NEVER packed, actually the two times here it was empty. I usually come here for a take out order of their spicy ahi don because I love it! They’re really friendly too.

This sushi joint is similar to Genki Sushi where you can serve yourself by choosing sushi dishes off the conveyor belt. You can also order items on the menu that you don’t see on the conveyor belt or in my case, sometimes I just order everything off the menu for freshness. I’ve been here a couple of times during lunch and am very pleased as none of the times I’ve had to wait in line and the restaurant has never been really crowded when I’ve been there. Most of the items are A-OK but other items are comparable to Genki Sushi or even better. My favorites are the Salmon Skin Temaki, Soft Shell Crab Temaki and Spicy Ahi. The portions and prices are reasonable and the customer service is pretty good. Like I mentioned, this place doesn’t get too busy during lunch so the neat thing is, they have clear plastic covers for all their plates rotating on the conveyor belt. Nice to know your food stays relatively clean before you’re ready to eat it. However, my first time going there, almost everything I ate was from the conveyor belt and I could tell it had been sitting there for a while. Since then, I’ve been ordering everything rather than choosing food from the belt-the taste just makes that much of a difference! Overall, not the greatest place for sushi but pretty good quality for the price minus the extra waiting in line. I like the location of the restaurant as well since there’s a gas station, grocery store and bank in the same shopping center.

Customer service is okay. The AC wasn’t working too good. It was pretty warm and made worry about food quality. I sat at the counter at the entrance to find out how fresh their sushi would be. The wasabi looked dried up and tasted weak. I had to add more wasabi to get a kick. The ginger tasted very good and definitely cleanses the palate. Their tobiko sushi is not heaping and looks flat. The spicy ahi sushi was runny. The rainbow maki sushi was disproportionate. I rate this place 1 star. I would not recommend this to any of my friends. I would be embarrassed to bring my relatives here. If their sushi tasted awesome, I wouldn’t mind their small portions. Their prices are high for lack of flavor, small portions, and okay customer service.

This sushi restaurant is located in the Salt Lake shopping center and is a great place for a casual bite to eat. The sushi is good and just right for that quick taste of Japanese cuisine. The staff treat their customers exceptionally well and are always quick to respond to orders and requests. This is the place I go to for a quick bite of good sushi and great customer service. Upon further review, this restaurant deserves the 5 stars for exceptional casual sushi and fantastic treatment of loyal customers. Happy? =D

Ever since moving to Salt Lake, I’ve come to notice that there aren’t many restaurants at the Salt Lake shopping center. After a few weeks of living here, my girlfriend and I have a lot of time to try out each restaurant and to our surprise, Matsutake has become our favorite place to eat. Especially due to the fact that it is a sushi joint. In all honesty, not everyone will like this place, but to me and my girlfriend, it is amazing, and we have yet to stop eating here. I can say that we are practically regulars, and I know this because the workers always remember our orders. This being said, they have excellent customer service, but do be warned, there may be times that its not top notch. But overall amazing restaurant and amazing food. I would recommend this place if you are in the area, its definitely worth checking out and with an open mind and stomach you may come to realize this place is a great place to eat. The food is only as good as you perceive it to be. Hope this was helpful, all I can say, worth it and go enjoy, very inexpensive and worth your buck.

My rating is only based off of their california maki. I’ve never sat in so I don’t know how their service is there, but each time I take out, the workers are always nice and friendly. This is the only place I go for california makis because it’s always fresh, soooo good, and soo much(12 piece) all for 7 bucks, which is heck of a lot compared to Ninja or any other sushi place i know of. So if you’re craving for california maki, just go here.

i know i’m in the minority as a non-sushi-lover, but for my fellow«raw is wrong» friends out there i felt compelled to review the non-sushi items i love at Matsutake :) what do i order? carbs and fried stuff! i’ve had their garlic onion fried rice(pretty good but kinda pricey), cold soba(decent), spam saimin(my jam since childhood) and most recently their won ton mein which blew me away. it was so good in fact that hubby had a bite and decided to order one for himself! one of the servers proudly boasted that their won tons are homemade(yummy veggie spring rolls, crab rangoons and crispy gyoza as well), you can definitely taste the difference! the crab rangoons remind me of family party pupus with imitation crab and cream cheese — so simple yet hits the spot! i used to dig their mochiko chicken too but unfortunately it was discontinued. it’s a quaint family-run eatery so nothing fancy in terms of ambiance, it’s not usually crowded and service is quick and obedient. you can byob(!) and they also offer takeout sushi platters — uh, if you’re into that sorta thing ;)

Matsutake Sushi is a cozy restaurant located in the Salt Lake Shopping Center and is one of my favorite kaiten-style sushi restaurants. Their menu may not be very extensive, however, their ingredients are always fresh. On my last visit, I ordered the ikura, saba, ahi poke and tamago. The ikura, saba and ahi poke met any and all criteria. However, the tamago fell a little short due to its somewhat bland taste. As for service, it was excellent. My server was very attentive and accommodating. I think the prices were very reasonable and the overall appearance of the restaurant was clean and tidy. I definitely plan to return.

This isn’t the best, but good enough for quick sushi, not a Mitch’s. The wait is not bad, you normally get seated right away. There’s a pretty good selection. It’s just as good as kuru kuru to me, without the line. It’s cheap, you definitely get what you pay for. It’s super close, so I like coming here when I don’t feel like greasy Byron’s or Soon’s.

Been here couple times since it’s down the street from and I find this place to be a delight. It’s really like a slim down version of Genki, but it’s nicer, cheaper, and without the big crowds. I really think this is one of those kaiten(cirular) Genki style sushi places that are hidden jewels. It’s tucked away at the Salt Lake Shopping Center and easy to miss unless you’re walking right by it. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi is comparable to Genki. The sushi is not amazing by any means but great for the price. Of course you don’t go to a kaiten sushi place for great sushi. Anyways, friendly staff and the sushi dish prices range from $ 1.89 to $ 4.00. Definitely recommend this place for those who like Genki style sushi places but not the crowds!

What do i love about this place. Pretty much everything! But the stuff thats great here, you can’t get at any other places. The Fried rice is most def you have to get. YOu can get one order and share between two people thats how big it is. Another item worth trying out is the Crab rangoon. Never had it at any other sushi restaurant but Matsutake has it and its delish. They also have the usuals, the Spicy Tuna and Tuna mayo. Just talking about their food is making me want to go eat there right now! If your in the area and want a quick craving for some sushi and dont want to have any wait time, this is the place to come for sure.

I ordered take-out from a very sweet sounding girl over the phone. In the 5 minutes that it took for me to get to there, my order was waiting for me at the counter. The prices are comparable to genki, maybe a little more expensive, but they have different items, like the soft shell crab tamaki. I also got a spicy ahi tamaki and both were delish and unlike genki, were packed with filling.

Having just moved to Salt Lake, I immediately sniffed out the nearest sushi place. I’ve eaten here a handful of times. The first few times were tolerably bad, with experiences like dried out wasabi, waiting for the check for 20 minutes, limited options and luke warm un-dissolved instant miso mix in my miso soup. However, this last time I got rancid unagi. I’m not saying this is the standard for food, but without trying to be overly-critical I was not surprised this happened and I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened again. Anyway, because spitting out an unagi nigiri all over the counter isn’t enough of a lesson for me– i’ll probably be back. I have to admit I really like the atmosphere. It’s empty, people leave me alone and it’s quieter than a library.

First off the 2 stars are for the awesome service that me and my homie got there. Well I guess with no one else in the restaurant service should be on point… …but thats besides the fact. Service was great, the food on the conveyor belt looked older than I was and was starting to condensate. Bad times. With that said, we ordered off the menu… Started with the maguro and the ebi. Usually safe bets and you can gauge how the rest of your meal will be pending the quality on the maguro. Food arrived quick and decent sized cuts, but it was SUPERFROZEN quality. Almost lower than Genki, and Genki is bad. That being said we ventured to trying other things on the menu to figure out if having the ahi poke style and as spicy tuna would fix it… The spicy tuna was the highlight of the meal, not too spicy and not too mayo’ee. If you go there, just stick to the spicy tuna, can’t really tell the quality of the fish when it’s buried in sauce. LOL! Pricing wise, it’s actually a little more than Genki. Iono if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Nothing is over 10 bucks on the menu, regardless of what you get, except maybe the sets. But who goes to this type of place and orders a set… After going through almost the whole menu I saw it… …SNOWCRAB with mayo! Sounded epic and I was assured it wasn’t processed crab that was actually cod and just dressed up to be real crab. So I ordered it… …this actually killed my appetite right on the spot. I’ve never had anything that had that funky of a taste! I’ve eaten at some weird spots in other countries before, and this piece of sushi had pretty much put me on a episode of Bizarre Foods. K, now totally dejected on sushi from this place I opted to try some of their desserts. They had a sponge cake roll, cheese cake, and chi chi dango. Got one of each. I swear after the crab nigiri I had bad choices! I ate the cake and it was bland, not sweet and kinda mushy. Fail. Scared to try the cheesecake I left it to my homie, he said it was actually pretty good. K, I’m now 0 for 2 and he’s 1 for 1 on picking decent things. I grab a piece of mochi with my hashi, it’s hard. I doubt its due to the air conditioning in the place. It just tasted old. On a happy note, the service was awesome! If you’re on a super budget and just want decent spicy ahi, go here. If you’re expecting better than Genki, don’t. Go to Kuru Kuru. I’ve never had anything bad at Kuru Kuru. AWESOMESERVICE though! :)

Matsutake Sushi has acceptable sushi at a reasonable price. What draws us in is its proximity to our home. In fact, in our household, we refer to it as ‘Neighborhood Sushi”. My favorites include the Soft Shell Crab Tamaki and the Spicy Tuna Nigiri. As with any conveyor belt sushi place, unless it’s busy enough to quickly turn over the inventory on the belt, I order from the kitchen. So IMHO, Matsutake Sushi is a convenient place to grab a bite to eat if you’re in the area and thinking sushi, but it not a worthy destination unless your starting point is fairly near by.

I’m not sure if this place gets much business… I came at an off time a bit after lunch with some friends who wanted to go to genkis but didn’t really want to go far, so one of them suggested here since we were all in salt lake anyway. I remember a while back, seeing this place used to be somewhat busy. When we came in, there was only one group of two ladies and a child seated at a table along the middle of the belt, which we took a few seats away from at another table. There was barely anything on the belts at all. We all went ahead and ordered what we wanted. I ordered the shrimp fried rice for about $ 8 – 9. There were 10 really large shrimps in the fried rice. It was flavorful, and the amount of shrimp was very generous. I guess you could say it was like paying a dollar a shrimp with a good amount of fried rice. I thought it was a bit too oily though, however the oil kept it from being too dry so I wasn’t one to really complain. There was only one guy taking everyone’s orders, and some more customers came in while we were there. I think a few of them were regulars. I can only assume only one person was cooking at the back since it took long to get orders out or things on the belt. I was pretty full and satisfied. Not very impressed, but it was alright.

I find this sushi place a lot better than Genki by far. the portions on the sushi are bigger the service is about the same as Genki as there is only one person waiting on everyone but I’ve never really had a problem with refills on my soda. The one word of advice though order from the menu what you want, The Spicy Tuna is great as well as the Deep fried Calamari. The sushi on the belt is mostly for show in my opinion, Just order what you want.
