Hmm. There’s no option for no stars. I think this man genuinely tries but ultimately Kappenberg may be ineffectual because there’s no tangible backbone to his treatment. He seems comfortable citing statistics and studies but doesn’t seems good with dealing with people and their real problems and especially how that behavior affects others. I wasn’t surprised to hear that others described him as namby-pamby. It’s scary that he’s «treating» people with psychological issues. It seems he would rather take the route of «it’s ok, forgive yourself» for people who have made major transgressions and hurt others in their lives. I understand that psychologists need to make a living and that that type of assurance makes the patient feel better about themselves(and keep coming back) but how is they any different from advice from astrologers or ouija board therapists? How about getting to the root problem of the patient’s issues and the consequences of their actions? I hear good things about the other psychologists in his office but I cannot comment on them.

I’ve been working with the staff at Hawaii Center for Psychology for over a year and give them high marks. They are really a very caring and sensitive group of professionals who bend over backwards to provide a welcoming environment. The staff are on it and make scheduling and invoicing smooth and easy. Highly recommended for helping you find coping mechanisms and some life balance.

We’ve been seeing Dr. Makashima for a few months now and she’s the first therapist that has actually made us feel like we’re making progress. She’s sweet, not aggressive or blunt with her therapy. She’s more like a mediator for us so we dont rip each other’s head off. I would derfinitely recommend Hawaii Center for Psychology for your counseling and mental health needs. The staff is super friendly too. They remind us to do our copay before our session starts so its convenient. They call a day ahead to remind me about my appointments too. They’ve been extremely understanding when we show up late… lol. The only thing holding back the 1 star is the fact that we still have to go. Once our differences are settled to the point where we can handle on our own, then I’ll give it to them. They also have a Keurig machine in the waiting room so you can make yourself a hot drink while you wait :)
