Hair Candy Salon

As a new arrival to Honolulu I was seeking a new stylist. A friend recommend Linda Sato, Stylist and owner of Hair Candy. I had my first cut from Linda yesterday. The cut is amazing! Linda is brilliant at her profession, a wonderful listener (to a nervous first time customer), super friendly and so, so funny. The salon is clean, cool and her business partner and co-​stylist, Clinton, is equally talented and friendly. The stress of new hair is now past me. Mahalo Linda!

I started going to Linda back when she was at the other salon and followed her when she and Clinton opened their salon near UH. They’re tucked away upstairs and could be a little hard to find if you’ve never been there but there’s never a shortage of people in their chairs. You can walk-​in but I’d definitely recommend an appointment.
Linda is friendly and so much fun to talk to. I’ve been going to her for years! She and Clinton do awesome work.

I’ve been going to Clinton to get my hair cut and highlighted for about seven years. He is awesome! His cuts are always flattering and grow out really well so I don’t have to go as often. His coloring skills rock too — many people have commented that they thought my highlights were natural (as if!).
It’s a really low-​key salon — nothing hoity-​toity or pretentious there, which I love. Everyone’s super nice, the prices are good, the parking is easy (and validated), and I can usually get an appointment within the next month. No complaints here!

Linda hooked me up, I loved the cut she gave me. It was super fast and she worked with me, understanding exactly what I wanted. I will def. be going back, and she trims your bangs for super cheap. Weird location but it’s worth the mission, trust.

2 things about me —
1) I usually don’t like talking to the person cutting my hair. I am a grump that way.
2) I usually don’t like the haircuts I get at the price I can afford (and think is reasonable) to pay.
Linda Sato changed all that. I absolutely loved that haircut she gave me because it was exactly what I asked for and looked great. She asked intelligent, interesting questions that showed she was actually listening to me. The prices, in my opinion, were totally affordable.
If you have a little trouble finding the place, just give them a call and they’ll walk you through how to get there. It might have just been me, but it took me a while to figure out where they were in the building. Still, don’t let that put you off! Linda will make you look fab!

I have been involved in a love/​hate relationship for the greater part of my life. Occasionally it is good, most of the time its just ok… but there are sometimes when I just want to Sinead O’Connor it. (or wait, is that too telling of my age? Should I say ‘Brittney Spears it!’)
In any case, my hair was a harried mess until *insert angelic heavenly music here* Clinton! I know two friends who go to Clinton regularly and their hair always looks fantastic but I was a skeptic… they weren’t born with my crazy frizzy hair!
This Christmas past, one of my friends gave me a gift certificate to straighten my hair with Clinton. I have had my hair straightened before. It took hours, it cost me an arm and a leg, and it still didn’t straighten out my mop! It took me a couple of months to muster up the courage, but I finally went to see Clinton and boy am I glad!
As I write this, it is thundering and raining outside. I have been rained on twice, maybe three times today, and my hair is the un-​frizziest that its ever been!
I think you guys get the point, but just in case, let me sum it up for you here: before Clinton straightened my hair, it was an uncontrollable mess. Now, it is wonderfully hopelessly controllably straight.
As mentioned in a previous post, the salon is a little tricky to find and I would recommend an appointment! The salon is clean, and Clinton was professional, friendly and knowledgable about hair. He put up with my questions and explained things thoroughly, which I really appreciated. I was there for 4 hours and got to see a lot of interactions and the entire staff is very nice! I cant wait to go back again!!!

I searched on Unilocal!for the first time and liked Hair Candy’s reviews & location. I was able to get an appointment pretty quickly, and owner & stylist Linda Sato was awesome. You could tell immediately that her 20+ years of experience have polished her skills, talents, and professionalism. She was fun to talk with, efficient, and wow! I actually got compliments on my haircut for the first time in years.
It’s little hard to find the front door of Hair Candy the first time: you need to wend your way up the stairs and around the back side of the Pacific Central Bank at University Square (@University Ave & King St). But now that I know my way there, I’ll be going back in three weeks for a regular appointment.
Great convenience & good value – you’re in the hands of a true professional.
The salon itself looks and smells clean and was an altogether very pleasant experience.
I also found Linda’s personality & manner refreshing. We chatted like old friends.
I am holding out on the fifth star until I have my second appointment. .. but I expect that #5 will be coming soon.
Update: 5^th star added. I am completely convinced now. Linda is great. She knows what she’s doing, I already feel like a regular customer and I am really really happy with the result! Thanks, Hair Candy.

Linda has been the best hairstylist I’ve been with. She knows how to cut and makes everyone feel like they belong to their small family there. With no exaggeration she now probably styles about 10 of my friends and family and they all love her. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

I’ve been going to Linda for over 13years for color, cuts and now straightening! I am a loyal client cuz she always gives me the best, friendliest service and does the best work! They are conveniently located across Puck’s Alley in the University Square building with lots of parking! I’ve referred a ton of friends & family to her & everyone is always happy with her work!

Clinton is the best. I started going to Clinton a few years ago after Paul brown decided to give me more shapes and colors than lucky charms in my hair. i needed help… alot of help. I was recommended to Clinton by my BF’s mother. So i figured I’d give him a try… i figured it can’t get any worse. met with Clinton and he was my savior! We laughed and talked about how PB butchered my hair. Clinton then said the magical words ever…“I can fix this.” and so he did. I’ve been going to Clinton ever since. He NEVER fails me. Clinton is a MASTER in color! His cuts are AWESOME! Appointment is HIGHLY recommended. The 3 stylists in this salon are so in demand that they really don’t have time for walk-​ins. I LOVE Clinton’s work on my hair! His hands have been touched by God and he will work miracles!
I recently moved from the East Coast and I found this salon through the recommendation of many locals with nice hairstyles. One of my friends goes to Linda, the other hair stylist who is supposed to be just as good. They have reasonable prices, unlike Paul Brown or Salon 808.
Whenever I walk out of Haircandy, I get lots of compliments. It’s a bit difficult to find though but well worth the effort. Park in the gated parking lot and they will validate your ticket. I have long hair. A layered cut and all over highlights cost me just over 100 dollars. Clinton will give you a good laugh and make you beautiful at the same time!
