Searched on Unilocal for dim sum. Decided on this because of the 4 out of 5 star reviews. The food, taste wise, is pretty good, but the service I had makes me not want to try new restaurants. They give you tea which tasted really good, but you need to ask for water. Their half moon doesn’t have too much pork and has a lot of peas. The spinach dumpling w/scallop didn’t have scallop. I found 2 short straight hairs by the bbq pork bun when I transferred to a plate for my daughter. I do not want to go on into detail but I feel like you need to call before you go in. It wasn’t busy at all so I think they close down or take a break, even though the hours of operation says 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. It doesn’t say that dim sum is only served until 2 p.m. It doesn’t say they are closing in between lunch and dinner. So when the server tells me they’re making it specially for us, I want to scratch my head. They need better communication or have a sign that say they only serve dim sum when they want to serve it. OR maybe someone that works there that speak English as their first language.

I love Good Fortune Chinese Restaurant! I stopped in one day while on lunch from work and instantly was hooked. It’s super clean and the staff is great! I love the chicken with orange sauce and the hot and sour soup! I’ve started going regularly and I encourage others to check it out and cruise on through!

I’m visiting from Las Vegas with my family and my mom desperately wanted dim sum so that’s what we went to go get. I chose this place based on reviews, and I have to say the dim sum was alright. This place probably wouldn’t be my first pick, however I wouldn’t eating here again. But the one star is because right after I ate here I felt like throwing up all day after eating here! I’m honestly so upset because I’m spending one of my nights in the hotel room because this restaurants food is not clean. I’m pretty sure I got food poisoning, and it’s sad how some restaurants can’t keep their food clean because they want to save money but you’re risking other people’s health. Edit: It’s the second day and my stomach hurts every time I eat something. Therefore I’m confirming that I got food poisoning. I believe I got sick from the sticky rice with the leaf wrapped around it.

For my first visit, this was pretty good. I liked how they kept the place clean and they had all my favorite dishes. Oh btw, I came here for dim sum. The only issue i had with them was that they ran out of egg custard!!! MYFAVORITE!!! So, I guess its good there. I’m going to have to come back and get me some egg custards.

Very good restaurant, would definitely come back. Space is clean, food is hot and steaming, and the hostess was very kind.

5 stars for the food –1 star for the service. Typical Chinese place where they insist on what they think you should order based on nationality and what they think you’ll like. Overall good experience friendly people. But sometimes you wanna try something you like.

Excellent food. Nice service. The lady was so nice and friendly. Quirky humor but nice. The server guy is a little pushy and asked for a cash tip. But he was kind of alright. We ordered the sautéed spinach but the sever guy brought us broccoli instead. We point out his mistake but he said«oh no, you should have the broccoli, the spinach is yellow and no good». Normally that would make me mad but the broccoli was actually really good so whatever. We’ll take it. We had the lamb stew which was delicious. Tender and In a really good sauce, it comes with tofu skin in it also. The steamed fish was also on point. It had been years since I had good delicious Chinese food. I wish these guys were closer to where live. Order food that calls to you. Plenty of pictures on the wall if you aren’t sure what to get.

For years, I have always dreaded the thought of going to Chinatown on a weekend. Images of crowded venues, searching for parking and general discomfort all come to mind… so imagine my surprise when none of that happened! I found myself in Chinatown at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. Why? My companion had suggested that we go to eat dim sum at Good Fortune Chinese restaurant, which had favorable reviews on Unilocal.I thought myself crazy as I have been to a few other dim sum restaurants in Chinatown at peak times… full of noisy crowds, huge families, long waits. not something to look forward to. Of course, I have never been to Good Fortune… in fact, I had to look it up on Google Maps to find the location. There’s an underground public parking lot that I am familiar with nearby, about a block away with the entrance on Beretania. I pulled in and was surprised… lots of parking available. Up the elevator and about a minute or two down the street and across the corner and we’re there. We don’t see anyone inside except for a worker so we peer into the windows and door. The worker comes to the door and reassures us that they are indeed open. Whew! that’s a relief! For me, this is a first… I have never been the first at a dim sum place… makes me want to celebrate as I beat the crowds… lol After we are seated, I peruse the menu and to me, it seems that there is not as much on the dim sum menu as some other places I have been… but, that could be good, less could mean that they are better at what they do, right? So, the cart comes and it has the steamed stuff. the server starts showing stuff. We end up picking up some siu mai and then some bao. Both were good but the bao was a little doughy for me. My companion asked about some green onion pancake and I had heard that they did xiao long bao. soup dumplings, and I really wanted to try these, so I asked about them. The reply was that they were still making them, so maybe later. We tried some bean curd rolls, I think they were stuffed with ground pork and vegetables? I was really surprised! I have seen these but never tried them and wow, they tasted really good! very savory! Meanwhile, a few more people started trickling in and also a few families. Back to the cart… one more round of bao and then scallops with spinach. Not a lot of scallop taste as there’s mini scallops inside but I get a lot of garlic. We’re kind of full and here comes the server again and now she has the green onion pancakes and xiao long bao to offer to us. We take the pancakes but turn down the xiao long bao… sad face. The pancakes are a good… not really oily but crispy and crusty on the outside and bready on the inside. This was a surprising dim sum restaurant that I had not heard of before. No huge crowd in the morning but good food at reasonable prices. Service was good and pretty attentive. I only saw one cart and have seen up to three at other dim sum restaurants so I’m not sure if more carts are on the floor later. It seems that they will prepare other dim sum that is not on the cart in the kitchen for you. I thought it was a good experience and would definitely return, especially to try the xiao long bao!

We came on a Saturday morning and we were able to be seated right away. This is usually a bad sign for a dim sum place but we noticed a few tables were full of locals so we have it a shot. The food was quite good and the atmosphere was just what I was looking for. If you don’t know the names of the dim sum the have a menu with pictures as well.

First thing you notice walking in here is how clean the place is! I have eaten at a lot of Chinese places and this must be one of the cleanest! The quality of food was great! The dim sum all tasted super fresh, served very quickly and the owner lady was really nice. She even took our 8 month old so we could eat. Must try on the island for dim sum

This is definitely my go-to spot for dim sum nowadays, mostly because they do some of my favorite dishes(turnip cake, chicken feet, & dan tat) VERY well… and they also have xiao long bao, which is hard to come by, and fun to eat! Really, everything here is consistently good, and I definitely appreciate that the prices are reasonable, ambiance very comfortable(not as crowded/hectic as «other places» nearby), & service is great… what more could you ask for in a lovely dim sum brunch? =) The interior is also very clean & bright, which is not necessarily a «must» for me – seriously, I grew up eating in restaurants all over Chinatown, the way it «used to be»! – but certainly a plus. ;D One down side might be that tables are a little close together, so the dim sum cart can’t always pull up alongside your table… but the staff is great about running steamer trays back & forth, or figuring out what you’re looking for(without too much«yelling» that Chinese waitstaff are so notorious for, hehe)! 0=) Also, the place is relatively small, so this has never been a major issue when I went there. Gee, just thinking about this place is making me crave some dim sum right now!

The appeal for me was looking in and seeing a tidy and clean restaurant dining room. The service was great. Both the waiter and waitress came and checked to see if we ate enough and if we enjoyed our food. The shrimp and chives dumpling, shrimp dumpling, and steamed rice rolls with shrimp were solid. The pan fried bun with meat and veggies was also very good. The beef balls could have a little more crunch as well as the Sui Mai. Overall a good restaurant to eat at if you are looking for some dim sum in Hawaii.

Came here with my sister for lunch. We parked at one of those pay and park lots($ 4 for 30 minutes. $ 12 for 2 hours) which were availablr right across the stress from the restaurant. We came in around 11 am with another party already eating(2 more groups came in while we ate) and were seated immediately. My favorites: –Mushroom Bun: shrimp/pork/mushroom inside. Real moist and delicious. Did not need to add ant condiments to this. –Shrimp & Chive Dumplings: good ratio if shrimp to chives, not an overkill of chives and it gave it the right flavor. –Shrimp dumpling: seemed like 2 shrimps of a good size! –Siu Mai: not too sure what the flavors are but it was one of the best I hace had on my dim sum eats. –Custard Bun: sweet and not too egg tasting. Good way to have dessert after. The restaurant was pretty clean and service was fast. The waiter got all of out orders correct. I think it was the owner who came up to talk to us and she seemed very nice and friendly! Price was decent. I just hate parking in Chinatown or in town in general. Would come back again if I am down this side.

Don’t be fooled by Good Fortune’s unassuming interior; their dim sum is intricate and packs some serious flavor. My dad was craving some for lunch so we made our way to Chinatown. I’d advise parking on the street if you can, or there’s a lot right across the street($ 12 for 2 hours). When we asked the waitress for her recommendations, she said(and I quote), «everything is good». Boy, have I heard that one before. To my utter surprise, out of the 12 dishes we ordered, all 12 were outstanding. I’ve been to Chinatown in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, etc and I have to say, I found the best dim sum I’ve ever eaten, in Oahu! Our old standbys, pork ribs with black bean sauce, beef tripe, barbecue pork buns, and chicken feet were all delicious and fresh. The bbq pork buns were flaky and we liked the pork ribs so much we even ordered seconds! As for dumplings, we ordered two kinds: the shrimp, and chives with scallops. They were all stuffed full to the brim! They definitely don’t skimp on the filling. The mushroom bao was a little different from your typical dim sum fare, but it was my personal favorite. Absolutely loved Good Fortune! Thank you for a great experience and a tasty meal!

While Good Fortune Chinese Restaurant may not be ranked as the best of the best on Oahu nor the most value for your money, as a first time patron, I’m already a fan of their location, ambience, service… and of course, their food. Situated on the corner of Smith and Pauahi streets, this clean and minimalistic air-conditioned eatery is spacious and comfortable with prompt, attentive and gracious service from the staff members. As with all establishments in and around Chinatown, there is either metered street parking or paid garage parking. Here is what we ordered for lunch in addition to taking home leftovers… DRYFRYBEEFCHOWFUN $ 8.95 Well seasoned with a fair degree of wok aroma, I would order this dish again… even though my husband prefers the chewier texture of Lam’s Kitchen house made ho fun. The extra thin and tender ho fun noodles appear to be house made and compliment the wafer thin slices of melt-in-your-mouth beef, bean sprout and green onion very well. FRIEDSHRIMPWITHWALNUTS $ 14.95 The batter of the fried shrimp is exceptionally light and airy while the shrimp itself is clean tasting with a good mouth feel. Kudos to the chef! I also love that the condensed milk mayonnaise sauce it’s tossed in just delicately coats each piece without being overbearing. The walnuts, on the other hand, had a nice crunch but lacked any presence of the familiar sweet crispy goodness. Could be why this dish is not called«honey» walnut shrimp? PHOENIXTALONS(CHICKENFEET) $ 3.35 per serving You are either a lover these or plain grossed out by even the thought. The chicken feet here are such a perfect tender delicacy that we ordered two dim sum size servings each containing about three to four pieces of soft, cartilage-y chicken’s foot. Deep fried, braised, then steamed to keep warm, it was done in a mild flavorful savory sweet sauce to which we enjoyed and savored every bite. SIUMAI(PORKHASH) $ 3.35 Although you can find pork hash just about anywhere, the ingredients of the siu mai at Good Fortune appear to be made the traditional way… meaning it’s been tediously hand chopped versus machine processed. The difference is evidenced in the toothsome yet tender texture of the meat filling as well as the other complimenting ingredients carefully mixed in and then hand assembled piece by piece. For some, the portion size of each siu mai may range between a bite to a bite-and-a-half, but luckily, there are four on a plate. I especially like that the taste of the siu mai had just enough savoriness to bring out the natural sweetness of the pork. DAHNTAT(CUSTARDTART) $ 2.85 Aside from a great egg custard filling, part of the craftsmanship of a good dahn tat is a light and flaky crust. The dahn tat here are pretty good. For my husband, he remarked that the creamy egg custard filling could have been sweeter. True… I will have to agree. While it had a nice balance of dairy to egg without it being too eggy in taste, the sweetness level kinda left you desiring for it to be just a tad bit sweeter… and this is coming from someone who prefers low sugar to no sugar. Incidentally, the size of each tart is shockingly miniscule… about 1−½ to 1−¾ in diameter… however, there are three to a plate which equals… what…three bites? JINDIU(FRIEDMOCHIWITHBLACKSUGAR) $ 2.85 Hot and fresh right out of the fryer, we couldn’t resist even though we were already full. Three to a plate, each jin diu was slightly smaller in size than a tennis ball. As you bite into the crispy exterior, the warm soft chewy interior along with an adequate amount of black sugar fills your mouth with irresistible goodness. Not too sweet, I found their jin diu to be good but a little on the oily side. To be fair though, jin diu in general are deep fried. It just depends on the temperature of the oil and the expertise of the pastry chef. In conclusion, we would return here due to the positive experience on this recent visit.

Good Fortune means good grinds. We have been to this restaurant quite a few times since it open earlier in 2015. The taste of the food has always been pretty consistent, not a hit or miss(knock on wood). We have always had good luck and the service had never been a problem. Our most recent visit disclosed problems around us as other diners were having problems with incomplete orders, wrong orders or dishes being charged that never arrived. When this was happening, the restaurant was about 70% full so that was kind of a surprise. For us, the dim sum was great, temperature just right, the char siu bao nice and soft and pretty meaty, the Siu Mai and seafood rolls were spot on. There was a little misfire with the taro gok as it was served cold like it had been«chilled» even though it took some time to get it served because they said they had to cook up a new batch. Otherwise the taro gok tasted great, crunchy outside, creamy taro filling inside. The tea was hot and tasty so no complaints there. We really enjoy their emein as it was prepared perfectly, soft tender noodles with just the right amount of seasoning and not oily at all. Not too salty as is the case sometimes at many restaurants. Clean, pleasant and good service from the times we have visited. The misfires experienced from other diners need to be factored in so Good Fortune misses out on Five stars. Chinatown has many fine dim sum options and Good Fortune is one to consider.

First time coming here! Was around the area and really wanted dim sum. Although, a lot of places stop selling dim sum after 2pm. Alas, I finally found the perfect place that serves it ALLDAY!!! Shrimp dumplings are my favorite. It’s $ 3.35 for 3 which I think is reasonable. Along with the price range are also Sui Mai, steamed bbq pork Manapua, half moon, etc. look fun is $ 4.95. My BF ordered the half size roast duck for $ 15. The lady also brought out some delicious egg drop soup with our meal which I thought was super good! Servers and staff are very friendly and attentive. Always had our water refilled and was checked on frequently to make sure we were doing okay. I love them! Street parking was easy to find on this Monday afternoon! But there a lot of paid parking lots to park at as well around the restaurant. This restaurant is clean, and so is their bathroom! Lol. I will definitely be back here again for my dumpling cravings :)

100 Unilocal Review Challenge 2015: 113⁄100 Finally, a clean and bright Dim Sum place in Chinatown with affordable prices! Good Fortune Chinese Restaurant has a nice bright interior with several tables sitting a party of 2 – 10. Our group of 5 scored a large circular table for 10 which was very spacious. We had a native Chinese speaker with us which helped, but the menu was one of the most informative Dim Sum menus I’ve com across. Their prices, quantity and descriptions were very clear in both Chinese & English. The service was sufficient considering how busy they were, after all it was lunch time. The 5 of us shared 2 types of custard dessert buns, several pork hashes, dumplings containing various fillings such as shrimp and spinach, look fun noodles, shumais and despite me craving«won ton» I had to settle for triangle deep fried shrimp(looks similar)! Sorry I don’t know the technical names but the staff are more than willing to explain the menu items to you. It was about $ 50 before tip for the 5 of us and we left, tummies full and cravings satisfied!

After a nice long morning walk, we decided to stop in to Good Fortune Chinese restaurant for some dim sum. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by none other than our«tea master», Mr. Lee. There were 3 other servers who also greeted us in Chinese. Oh oh, I thought, it’s a good thing I recognized the greeting for«Good morning» as Mr. Lee brought us hot pot of our usual, Bo Lei(普洱) tea. It was nice of him to remember our tea preference. Another server wheeled over a steamer cart with various dim sum and opened the tops of each steamer basket to show the contents. I was immediately attracted to the wild mushroom & truffle bao(野菌黑松露花菇包 or Mushroom truffle package) that looked like huge mushroom caps. We also ordered several other types of dim sum and we tried a lunch plate of Minute Chicken Cake noodles. The assorted plump dim sum that we ordered were served steaming hot. The plate of Minute Chicken cake noodles came out sizzling hot from the kitchen and the thin Hong Kong-style noodles were nice and crisp fried. We were a little underwhelmed with the noodle dish’s mediocre flavor even though it had good textural contrasts and balance. With the attentive and friendly service from today’s staff and discovery of the very flavorful wild mushroom & truffle bao, I’d say that we received top-notch 5-star rating. However, I’m deducting a star for the disappointing and underwhelming noodle dish.

Since there are usually two or three pieces of dim sum on a plate, we had a party of six people so that the food could be shared equally. Some people didn’t eat their fair share, so luckily, I was able to help them out! This«new» dim sum place(as of 7−1−15) is on the corner of Pauahi and Smith Streets. It used to be a Portuguese restaurant, and before that, it was Mei Sum. Some of us parked in metered stalls on the street while others parked in the municipal lots.(Remember that street parking is free on Sundays!) We got a table right away as the restaurant was half full. The carts wheeled around until it got more crowded and congested with chairs in the aisles. Service was quite good. Food came right away and servers checked off our order on a paper tallying sheet. The only disappointment was that they ran out of taro cakes and didn’t have the white egg custard tarts. Overall, taste, temperature, and texture were satisfactory! We enjoyed the shrimp dumplings, XLB(Xiao long bao), chicken feet, fried taro, char siu look funn rolls, spinach and scallop dumplings, yellow egg custard tarts, etc. We enjoyed the clean interior, the friendly managers who came to chat with us and thank us for our patronage, and the yummy meal! We discussed possibly returning for the dinner special which is $ 48 for a party of 4… sounds good!
