Not a bad choice for dinner or lunch but nothing special. I pass by here every day on my way home from work and I have been deciding if I should try it or not so on a friends recommendation I finally decided to try this place. If you’re wondering if they serve frog they do not. One of my favorite things about Korean restaurants that are not Korean Barbecue are the sides you get, while there were seven different sides they were just average in taste and quantity. I’ve had the Bibimbap that I would give 3.5 stars out of 5. I also had the pork belly kimchi dish unfortunately with that it was about three times the amount of kimchi then there was pork belly. The service is pretty quick and is also friendly. I honestly feel like I’m eating at a hole in the wall restaurant in Korea which I enjoy. If you’re craving Korean food and looking for somewhere new then I would come here otherwise I would not as there are many other Korean places to eat in Waikiki and Honolulu.

Just walking back to our hotel –Hilton Hawaiian village — from a nature hike at Hawaii nature center. We came across this hole in a wall place. We were attracted by the pictures outside So we decided to try it since we hungry Had a slight difficulty in finding the entrance since the entry door is in the back by the parking lot. We ordered the short rib soup along with the squid stir fry Boy it was delicious. We ate everything. The soup was perfect and tasty The squid was not hard and all the little treats were good There was no crowed, the place was clean and quaint The only gripe is the Pesci fly that kept flying by like a drone

No frills good Korean food. Parking in front and back. Lack of crowds, and great lunch specials make this place a definite go to place when I need a Korean fix.

Rolled up in front and saw a sign taped to their door. They’re closed for renovation from September 24th to October 4th, 2015. Can’t rate them properly so will give them 3 stars since I’m forced to submit a rating.

If you’re looking for a no-BS Korean cuisine place, Frog House is it. I highly recommend venturing away from your typical BBQ stuff like Kalbi or Bulgogi and go for the hot pot bowls like seafood bimbimbap. I think their hot pot selection is on point and I crave it from time to time. I give it four stars due to their limited parking.

I was walking nearby and asked someone if there was a good Korean place to eat and they recommended Frog House, I’m so glad they did! I stopped in to eat by myself and they seemed surprised that I didn’t just want take-out which I guess judging by the setup that their business is primarily for delivery. The dinning area is small and seemed like everyone there were regulars. I could tell the lady serving me was also who prepared my meal and was probably the owner, she was attentive, courteous and cheerful, seemed genuinely happy to be there which was very refreshing. It felt like being in the dining room of a relatives house. I ordered something simple: Bi Bim Bap which came out in less than 5 minutes and was Delicious! I was served bone soup with chives, a generous portion of several side dishes, rice, and of course the bowl of goodies, radish kimchi, different kinds of sprouts, shredded cabbage, beef and carrots with seaweed, and several other things I can’t remember to mention… everything was fresh and tasted amazing. I ate so much I could barely walk afterwards, a great meal that took me back to my childhood. Such a great experience and my bill was only 12 bucks, if I could give 10 stars I would. I’m definitely going back very soon and bringing some friends with me.

After ordering take out from here 10+ times, I’ve finally decided to make a Unilocal account and review this place(seriously)! Haha. Take out orders are ready in about 10 – 15 minutes. Unbelievably quick! All lunch plates are around $ 11 and come with a separate container filled at least 5 side dishes. Best deal I’ve come across on my first year living in the area. My go to is the kalbi plate — the 10+ pieces given are so juicy and fatty, yummy. Tried their spicy tofu soup once, and it became a part of my daily regimen when everyone was extremely sick during the first week or so of the year :(: Lastly, their chive/seafood pancake is BOMB. And if you get it during happy hour it’s only $ 7! I usually just stick to all the staple Korean food I know and am used to eating, but I definitely found a place to experiment and try new things! Korean restaurant happy hour(all I know is that it ends at 7PM)?! Uhhhhh I think yes! Haven’t dined in yet, still planning on dedicating a day to do so because I know I’ll be ordering the mother load. Hint: they also have yakiniku!!! Located right on Kalakaua Ave. parking naturally looks pretty shitty, so if you live around the area, just walk! I believe there’s only about 5ish stalls available, if that. Upon arrival, yes — it does look like a total hole in the wall, people lounging around etc — but they are all so friendly! They always offer my extra side dishes and box up my order if I have a lot of take out that day. I’ve never eaten in before but there’s a connecting room with majority of their tables. Plus they serve soju? Pffffft, could this place get any better?!

I’ve always wanted to try Frog House Restaurant since it is within walking distance from my condo. Finally called and ordered a take out Kalbi meal. For just under $ 18. it was excellent. I had to wait for my order, but was invited to sit in the restaurant while waiting. You know this is an authentic korean restaurant just by the clientele. When I got my order I was surprised to get three take out containers. Other places give you just one take out container that has everything it it. The Frog House’s same one container just has the Kalbi. The Kalbi, enough for two people, tender and tasty sitting on grilled onions and wrapped in foil. The other container was filled with 5 side dishes: kim chi, bean sprouts, two other sides, I had never had before., and the most delicious and refreshing potato salad that had fuji apples in it. I also got a separate container of rice. The side dishes were very spicy, but oh so good. When I first called, I was little hesitant, since the person who answered did not speak a lot of english and I wasn’t sure what would come with the Kalbi. However, when I got to the restaurant, I was surprised how helpful & friendly the staff is. I am definitely going back and will either dine in or take out again. This place is great!

1. Verdict/Value: The Happy Hour specials and constant lack of a crowd make it a good choice, but there really are a lot of other better options food-wise and parking-wise. 2. Food: There’s a lot of Korean choices in town, so the bar can be set high for taste and price. A friend recommended this place, and until 7pm, you can get their Happy Hour specials which makes the Frog House worth it, because, well, the sides made the night worthwhile! Maybe it was just an off night for the cooking staff. We’ll have to try this place again sometime. The Seafood Pancake($ 7.95) had its moments of crispiness and chewiness, but our particular offering was more oily than what you would get from other places(I should have taken a picture of the pooling oil. I am hoping this isn’t the norm… The Pig Foot($ 11.95) during Happy Hour is essentially half the size of the regular order and it was alright — it was a little dry, but I could see how if it was cooked a little less, it would have had a better texture and flavor. Our plate only came with three pieces of lettuce, which was interesting(since there was waaay more meat and the server knew it was going to be shared between two people) — thankfully, the waitress brought over a extra lettuce at no charge. The Fish Cake Stew($ 6.95) was good in that it’s really a light, clear broth soup with fish cake pieces in it. The bad news is that folks wanting to avoid a lot of salt or MSG may want to choose another dish. Speaking of other dishes, the side dishes really made the night — it was a nice selection with the steamed eggs winning the day! 3. Service: It’s polite and good enough, though there seems to be an outside section and an inside section. Despite not having many folks dining this night, it seemed a little hard to get anyone to come by, so a quick visit to the back room /prep room was needed. The food also seemed to come very slowly, considering there was only one other table of 3 patrons this visit… 4. Atmosphere: Korean TV advertisements running repeatedly on a flat-screen TV? Check! Outdoor seating? Check? Small interior seating on wooden benches? Check! Tough-to-find parking(with double-checking behind the restaurant)? Check! It’s small and clean on the inside and that may be all that matters, if you’re looking for a deal on Korean cuisine!

Came here after going to 678 Hawaii to be told that the wait was only 20 minutes. Yeah, right, we’ve heard this before and ended up waiting 1 hour! So we decided to give Frog House a try. I am so glad we did! The food is really tasty! We ordered the dinner combo plate which included Kal Bi, Bulgogi &BBQ Chicken. Everything was delish!!! They offered a variety of side dishes(free) that were just as good as our main dish. The only thing I did not enjoy was the green onion salad which was a side dish for purchase. It needed something to cut down on the acidity/vinegar. Other than that, I am a fan!

Got there at about 9 pm. Basically parked on the sidewalk fronting the place. We were the only ones in the place. Needless to say we got prompt service. Had Bi bim bap which was good nothing special though. GF had a spicy beef vegetable soup. Side dishes were small but good. Lots of other things on the menu but couldn’t try them all. Noticed there wasn’t the typical sauces on the table to use. Anyway, it was nice to have the place to ourselves but I like the food at O Bok better.

Yakiniku LOVE… Spent $ 52 on date nyyte … YAY!!! Reservations: When I called they picked up the phone, although there is a language barrier I was able to understand that there were open tables so yAy!!! Food: I love the experience of yakiniku because it is just so much fun. Plus there are those super fun buttons that make sure you get service right away. OMG I want to eat there right now!!! Ambiance: I think the outside is good because there are these picnic tables that you can eat on that allow you and your party to smoke(if thats what you desire). Parking: Thats a tough one, the parking is terrible :)

Visited here after hiking Haunama Bay Trail. Wife and I both enjoyed our menu choices [stone pot Bi Bim Bab and Soy Bean Soup] Also, great kimchee! We’ll be back here.

I would have gave this place a 5 if it wasn’t for the horrible service. My family came in at about 9 o’clock and by 915 the owner was trying to rush us out. She kept pacing by our table looking. At 930 she gave us our check in an attempt to rush us out even quicker. Then when she gave us our receipt, she had the nerve to tell us that the tip wasn’t included… Like I never ate at a restaurant before!!! 5 star food, but 2 Star service!

The service is excellent. The food is typical of a Korean yakiniku joint, so it’s nothing special. And in case you’re interested they have Black Goat.((0.o)) Eeeekkk!!! I’m rating it 3.5 stars because the parking sucks and the food is average.

i’m really sorry to say, that this was the worst korean food i’ve eaten in a long time. we came here because a coworker from my hubby told us to give this place a try . she mentioned a special fish with soybeans dish that they had on the menu. we ordered that fish(14.95 $) and hangover soup(5.95 $) from their lunch menu . both dishes had too much jalapeño and that’s basically all you tasted. all the side dishes we had that day looked old and were tasteless. i don’t know if we just caught a bad day or what, since most Unilocalers give 4 stars.

Woke up this morning in need of comfort food, which for me is a good Korean meal. My newly instated running route goes down McCully, across Kapiolani, up Kalakaua and across King to get back to start, and at the top of Kalakaua I always pass this tiny little establishment. Frog House, haha what a name. I was told by a random friend it was pretty good, so I put my boots on and walked on over. I came in and was seated in a tiny area in the back. Lunch prices were pretty decent, so I ordered a mini chive jun and my favorite Korean dish, bibimbap(both were 7.95). She came out right away with a carafe of ice cold water and a glass– which is great because one of my top pet peeves is having an empty water cup! Seriously that will totally turn my cheery Snow White-ish disposition into evil Queen in a heartbeat… My bibimbap came out quickly and had soooo many ingredients! Seasoned lettuce, daikon, bulgogi, bean sprouts, mushrooms– the list goes on! A smile instantly took up my entire face. She brought out a few side dishes with it– really good cabbage kimchi(hard to impress me with kimchi, my grandma’s was BOMB), their version of a cole slaw maybe, seaweed with the gochijang, and an egg dish I’ve actually never had before! I thought it was soft tofu at first, but as I chewed and looked at it closer and realized it was cold fluffy egg! I can’t eat a lot of egg without getting sick but it was very yummy. And my chive jun! Yaaay! Came out with it’s dipping sauce and I discovered little pieces of squid in it. Cooked perfectly and looked beautiful. Needless to say I left with a VERY full tummy and a smile on my face. Good prices for great food, and she made sure to check on me a couple of times to make sure I was taken care of. And the walk home was perfect to settle all of that food haha! I predict I will be making that little trek again soon. :)

Tucked in the pre-Waikiki section of Kalakaua Avenue, you’ll usually find Korean people here. Why? Because this place is a favorite among Korean nationals in Hawaii. It is hard to find parking here and I still don’t really know where to park. Be careful parking at Don Quixote as they tow. Instead, seek parking on the street. The taste here is very very Korean. If you really want to try real authentic Korean food this is it. Banchan here is very basic. In fact, I don’t really like their banchans compared to other Korean dine-in’s. Soondubu: Base is very seafood-ish. Good mix of seafoods and heavy on flavor. Depending on your tastes, it might be good or bad. It was okay for me. Service is quick and fast. For those who think real real real authentic Korean can’t be had with good service for non Koreans, take a look here. They are quite friendly for a really authentic Korean place. 100 Reviews, 1 Day 9⁄100 January 12, 2013

I’ve passed by here many times and wondered if they really serve frog here, and I finally had the chance to try it out earlier this week. I was a little sad that I did not find frog on the menu here, but then again, seeing that there is a canal behind the restaurant, maybe that’s a good thing. Either way, I’d still say that I’m a fan of Frog House! PROS: + The food is delicious + The soju is delicious + Fast and Friendly service + Well lit, and clean facilities + Reasonably priced CONS: — No frog on the menu — Parking can fill up pretty quickly — Table can get crowded depending on what you order and how many in your party There were four of us that came here for dinner at about 9:00 pm on a Tuesday night. The parking lots in front and in back were empty. We were seated, and began to peruse the menu. I wasn’t in the mood for anything in particular, and was up to try anything, so my friend took care of the ordering. He ordered some kind of hot pot dish with beef and vegetables in it, and a kim chee pancake. We also ordered a bottle of soju after our food order went in. The soju and banchan hit the table at the same time. The kim chee was nice and spicy, and the fish bones were really tasty, but had a lot of bones(my least favorite part of the fish). The egg thing(not sure exactly what it was) was nice and fluffy, and the eggplant was tasty. The broccoli was broccoli, and I didn’t really get a good taste of the potato salad. Shortly after the kim chee pancake hit the table, and we started working on that right away. Oops, forgot to get a picture of it before we started digging in! But I noticed that even though it wasn’t the seafood pancake, there were still some bits of squid legs in there. Good stuff! As we were working on our kim chee pancake, banchan and soju the main course came out. A hot bubbling pot of stewy goodness. Unfortunately I don’t recall what it was called since I didn’t order, but it’s got beef and potatoes, so you could probably find it in the menu descriptions, if you’re interested in trying it. The meat in here was kind of like ox tail because it was segments of cow vertebrae with meat on it, but it was bigger than your typical ox tail bones. There was also potatoes and vegetables in the bubbling red soup. The meat was tender, and the potatoes melted in my mouth. The soup was flavorful with a bit of spice. It definitely hit the spot! I’m looking forward to coming back to try the other menu items that I didn’t get to try this time around.
