Couldn’t make sweet and sour chicken, had run out of sweet and sour pork, tried the pineapple shrimp and didn’t like it. Tried to pay with credit and they only take cash. Fail.

Beyond bummed of their closing: I come to Oahu every year and Fatty’s is one of the reasons why. What was nice about this place aside from the food is that they never changed. Always the same employees year after year which is so refreshing in this day and age of change. So whats the reason for the closing, another fricken mall or department store that we don’t need. How sad! Please, please, please consider re-opening at another location! Or give us the recipe for the choi sum and beef chow fun, wok fried round noodle, and crispy shrimp over rice.

I am so sad that Fatty’s has closed! This was one of our favorite restaurants. Owners, please let us know if you are opening a new location!!!

Goodbye Fatty’s. After 35 years in business, Tony has closed his doors to make room for more retail space in Waikiki. We will miss them all always.

I like eating here because the food is pretty good(especially the broccoli beef!) and its pretty cheap in comparison to a lot of the other restaurants down in the Waikiki area. Get a dinner with 2 entrees and choice of rice or chow mein for $ 5.50 Yum yum yum :) I’m not very happy it won’t be there much longer since the international market place is being torn down to put up anther damn mall. Because we need another one here.

When I came to Waikiki a few years ago, Fattys was the peak of my eating experience. I love the whole in the wall character, watching old Chinese guys make my meal in front of me but on this trip, it wasn’t the same ol feeling As soon as I landed, I came straight to Fattys and then I came a few days later. Ordered Kung pao chicken, Chinese sausage fried rice and a crispy shrimp and Chinese broccoli birds nest. The Kung pao was terrible. The noodles were decent and the only reason the fried rice was dope was because it was caked in MSG. Then a few days later ordered the curry chicken which for the main part was terrible for every reason and the BBQ pork noodle soup was just about ok. It’s sad that this place will be gone in Jan cause of some developer but at least I got my run of it. Mahalo!

I believe Morrissey said it best: «You’re the One for Me, Fatty.» Ah, who can protest such strong admiration? Not I. I cannot believe that we ate here TWICE during our week-long stay in Oahu. But, in all honesty, I do not feel ashamed, because Fatty’s is downright tasty! Nestled behind an enclave of Swapmeet memorabilia and a dimly lit alley, you will spot the ever-so aromatic and smoky, Fatty’s Chinese Kitchen. Yeah, yeah, nevermind it’s gruff exterior, Fatty’s is a lover man, but will whip your arse with some culinary flavors. I seriously consider this some of the best chicken fried rice that I’ve ever had, and at first thought it was because it was consumed after a night out drinking in Waikiki, but later that week, had some while sober, and yep, still freakin’ delicious. Morrissey doesn’t lie.

We come to eat here several times throughout our vacation. If it’s a hole in the wall with cockroaches outside and smoke from the hot wok inside so thick that you can’t breathe, then it has to be good and authentic! We always look forward to eating at Fatty’s as soon as we step off the plane!

Came here for the Unilocal recommendations. Left with a tummy ache. I do not know how this place has so many«good» reviews, as my friends and I scoured Waikiki for good Chinese and ended up her because of the reviews. The two of my friends who didn’t eat here were the lucky ones. — Noodles tasted like wood. I’ve had better Top Ramen from styro foam cups. — Wait staff’s attitude is old-school … «if you are not sitting and eating and paying, then leave» — The tourists beside us wanted a plate of non-spicy noodles. The waitress completely changed their order to something less spicy and more expensive than what they ordered, and the inexperienced tourists had NOCLUE. — Scary people coming in, sitting next to you, and then leaving, not ordering anything. Only plus was that the soups broth was tasty. NOT how you want to start off your time in Waikiki. Avoid.

Everything I’ve eaten here is so good! I would tell you what’s good, but my mom is the one who orders the food so I don’t even know :( I will tell you that I love their ginger chicken and duck! sooooo goood!!! This place gets crowded so I love calling in the order and taking it somewhere else to eat. It’s gonna be real sad to see this place go. I’m seriously gonna have withdraws. What am I going to do!!!

There is nothing special about Fatty’s. It’s located in the International Market Place. Not in the food court but it’s there. The place is small, and there are a few stools you can sit at. Bar style. The food here though was great. The BBQ Pork. The Duck. It satisfied my Chinese food craving. While we were busy eating, we were able to see the cooks prepare everyone’s food. Hit up Fatty’s for yummy Chinese Food.

I don’t know if I’ve been spoiled by really good Chinese food my whole life or this was an off day. This place is a serious hole in the wall(not a bad thing) that just has a counter for you to eat at. The selection is small. Probably the specials of the house. For myself, I ordered the Chinese Beef Stew with Egg Noodles. Noodles came out quick and the meat was fairly tender. Throw in the broth and some Chinese broccoli and you are good to go. The food is mediocre if you have a craving for some Chinese classics. To be honest, I’ve had better. I think the most enjoyable part of my time there was watching the cooks make food for the fastfood part of their establishment.

Two words: Fried Rice. Fatty’s is a go to take-out or quick sit down counter-style chinese restaurant in waikiki. The prices are reasonable, the«waitresses» are friendly enough and the food ranges from decent to delicious. I’ve also tried the Laksa and singaporean noodles, both of which I’d stay away from. I don’t know what made them think that expanding their menu to include south east asian food would boost business, but I am just sticking to the basic chinese food from now on :)

Oh boy, what a love/hate relationship I have with cheap Chinese food. Thinking back to the good old days when Panda was all I would eat and sodium content never bothered me. Fast forward to now when I would not touch Panda Express food and anything near 500 mg of sodium leaves my mouth feeling like the hottest day in the Sahara desert. But that’s besides the point, Chinese food can be delicious. And the other weekend where I had a mini-vacation in Waikiki, I decided to stop by Fatty’s with a couple friends. Now, onto the food. Ordered the Beef Chow Fun. Waited a bit longer than my friends who just ordered the hot food, which was also like 3 dollars cheaper. But I was craving chow fun. Got my plate and opened it up… mmmmm, the smell of somewhat greasy noodles mixed with veggies and beef, YUM. The noodles were tasty, not slimy or soggy or tough, cooked very well and actually the dish didn’t taste super oily. The beef was more tender than what I’m used to at Chinese places, which was great, and it had decent flavor. Good amount of green and white onions and cabbage to give it more crunch and flavor. All in all, pretty tasty. Would try this place again if I was in the mood for Chinese and happened to be in Waikiki… which doesn’t happen very often… for both, sadly. But I like the feel of the place, very«Streets of China.» I’m ignorant to what it really is like probably… sorry. Fit Tip #3 — Not all carbs/fat/proteins are built the same. Carbs are broken down usually by the glycemic index, how fast they get broken down and converted into sugars. For example, a donut with sugar would be considered a high glycemic carbohydrate. Meaning that it increases your blood sugar fast, causes an insulin spike, and can cause a dip in your blood sugar after as a result. This is what is known as a «sugar crash». So try to stick with low glycemic carbs… aka whole grains and fibrous foods, they don’t cause the same crash and provide a good, constant source of energy.

Must Order: Szechuan Shrimp with Hong Kong Style Noodles and Gravy w/Choi Sum(not on the menu!), Spicy Pork Chops with Fried Rice If you want greasy hole-in-the-wall Chinese food, Fatty’s is the place to be! Located in Waikiki on Kuhio Street down an alley between Maddog’s Saloon and Denny’s, it has a take-out section and a counter to eat at. When it gets busy, expect to hover over people already sitting at the counter. When we go to Fatty’s we never need a menu. We know EXACTLY what we want and most of it isn’t even ON the menu! Keep in mind that they upcharge for some of the things we order(like the Hong Kong style noodles w/choi sum) but being that they’re already reasonably priced, it’s not that big of a bother. Szechuan Shrimp [5 belly rubs]: This is by far, my FAVORITE Szechuan shrimp. It’s cooked in a spicy salt & pepper style on a really hot wok. You actually get to watch them cooking your food and the smells coming from the wok is just amazing, I almost want to rub my face in it. Ok probably not a good idea to do that. Anywho, the shrimp is spicy, salty, peppery, and crispy. You can pretty much eat the whole thing head to tail and sometimes, I do. Hey, I’m Asian right? I usually get this with Hong Kong Style Noodles w/Gravy and Choi Sum(this is not on the menu). Hong Kong Style noodles are that super thin noodles that is almost fried(I think?). It comes out super crispy and then they pour the Chinese gravy over it with choi sum and it softens up certain areas. With the Szechuan Shrimp on top, the spices on the shrimp rub off on the noodles adding another depth of flavor. All in all, this dish is my FAVE and makes my mouth water just writing about it! Spicy Pork Chops w/Fried Rice [4 belly rubs]: I only give this 4 belly rubs because the Szechuan Shrimp is my go-to order but the pork chops are pretty stinking good as well. Also cooked up in that crazy seasoned wok, it retains this amazing flavor blend of spicy and salty. Paired with fresh hot fried rice, it’s a great 2nd to my Szechuan Shrimp. These two are really the only thing we order, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you what the rest of the food is like. It’s like an unspoken agreement between the BF and I. I get my shrimp, he gets his pork chops and we’ll share some of our dishes to one another but really only a few bites. I definitely would recommend trying this out. It’s a great hole-in-the-wall and you just gotta know the right thing to order! Also, I wouldn’t recommend trying to stick your tongue in the wok. It seems so tempting but it’s probably a bad idea.

I love where it is, how it is and how cheap it is. It’s good but not great. The Beef Chow Fun is OK. The beef and veg get some wok time. But when the dish is assembled, the beef and veg are just poured on the gummy noodles. Jeff’s Sweet Sour Pork was awesome by me, Sour then sweet but too fatty for his NJ taste. I don’t think it’s called Fatty’s for the skinny chef but for the rich, onolicious food. Oh, as someone else said, the food under the glass is NOT made the same way as the dishes made to order. It looks like they cut back or elinate most of the sauces so the dish will hold longer under the heat light.

I’m not sure what else I can add to all the reviews about this place because everyone is pretty much on point on this one. Whole in the wall restaurant in Waikiki. Looks sketch. Great food. My fave here is the beef chow funn. Everything here is made to order(except for the choice items… not a huge fan of these) and can take a while b/c there is only one chef. a lot of people prepping food, but only one actual cook. So if you can, order ahead of time if you dont place to eat there. I usually wait about 10 – 15 min if I order there and take out, or I’ll phone order it in and walk there 5 min later. You can see your food being cooked right in front of you, so you know its all fresh. I just don’t think i’ll ever dine in just b/c it’ll get hot(from the wok) and you’ll smell after, but thats part of the experience for most people. You’ll know its good food b/c you can find all sorts of people there, from tourists to men and women dressed in business attire trying to get lunch. The food is very affordable for the amount you get. They give alot for an avg of $ 8 a plate. Don’t expect great service, but who really cares. this place has been here for a very long time. All my friends and family know and love this place. Best place for chow funn on the island :)

Fatty’s Chinese Fast Food is a small, hole-in-the-wall Cantonese place in the back of the International Marketplace off of Kuhio Avenue. Despite having heard of this place numerous times and passing by it a bunch of times, the fiancée and I had never tried it. Every time we stayed in Waikiki, we always opted to stick with just Marukame Udon, Il Lupino, Sansei, Arancino Di Mare, and Kimo Bean Coffee. This time, however, we were determined to give Fatty’s a try. The fiancée were staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach just a few blocks down, so we decided to walk over to Fatty’s and do takeout. Fatty’s itself is literally a hole in the wall. There’s a takeout counter and a few bar style seats, that’s it. The employees also don’t really know how to speak english, which isn’t really an issue for me and can even be seen as a sign of good things to come! Anyhow, the fiancée and I decided to order off the chef’s recommended specials menu and ended up ordering too much food! On recommendation from a friend, we ordered the spicy pork & shrimp soup noodle(for the fiancée), a runny egg beef(for me), and a shrimp & choy sum cake noodle(off the menu item to share). So how was it? Well, I don’t care for spicy food, so the soup noodle was too spicy for me to really try. However, the runny egg beef was good, though a little bland. I was expecting much stronger flavors, so I was actually a little disappointed with this one. The cake noodle, on the other hand, had lots of flavor, good texture, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked! In fact, the noodles in the cake noodles were thin and chewy/crispy, different from most others in a good way, as was its flavor. So is this someplace I’d go back to? Of course! Is it something I’d have a strong craving for? Probably not, but it was still good! Good, old fashion Cantonese can be difficult to find, and this hit the mark! And it gets even better when you consider the price(especially for Waikiki).

I was shocked to see that I haven’t written a review of Fattys yet. Maybe I was hoping to keep this place on the down low since it can be hard to find a seat at peak hours. It’s a small, narrow counter-style restaurant with the kitchen adjacent to the seating. Yes, it’s small and hot(no a/c) but it’s fun to watch the cooks make your dish right in front of your eyes. I’ve been going to Fatty’s since I was a little girl vacationing in Waikiki in the 70s. This place is a true institution. They serve mostly Cantonese food and it’s all authentic Hong Kong style simple food. Some words of advice: 1) do not order from the pre-made items behind the glass 2) order noodles or a rice dish from the menu. my faves: dry fried beef flat noodles(gon chow gnow haw) and roast duck soup noodles(siu gnop tong fun). Oh, their chicken and salted fish fried rice is also excellent. 3) I’ve also found that the are accommodating enough to let me special order a dish I grew up with in HK-fried rice vermicelli with shredded duck(gon chow gnop see mai fun). make sure you get it dry(no gravy). As long as you don’t order the Americanized Chinese food(I can’t vouch for that having never ordered it), you will love it. Trust me.

I always walk by this place when I’m in Waikiki but never have thought to go until I read all the rave reviews on Unilocal… Plus, their chow fun(which is my fave) seemed to be their speciality, so I had to check it out. I went around 8:45 and there were a few people sitting around the counter(set up similar to a small ramen restaurant) and some people waiting to order… Always a good thing late at night. You can either order entrees or do a plate lunch 1 or 2 or 3 items… I think the prices ranged from around $ 4.50−6.75 which is great deal, especially for Waikiki. I wanted the chow fun so I ordered the beef chow fun dry(8.50) while my bf got a plate lunch with shrimp fingers, rice, and beef/broccoli. Total was $ 14.50 We decided to sit at the counter since we were too hungry to wait to bring it home. As soon as we sat down, they served us water and some chopsticks we we started digging away. The chow fun was delicious and just how I like it EXCEPT that it was a little too oily. The noodles and veggies were fresh, and the beef was cut thin and was very tender. My bf’s shrimp fingers had a little too much dough on them but he seemed to like the beef/broccoli(I was too busy eating my chow fun to try his) All in all, I would definitely check it out again. The service was good, they were attentive with making sure our water’s were refilled and the food was good. Maybe I can give them one more star if they cool it with the oil next time. CASHONLY!

SOCUTE! Located on the side of Denny’s Rest in Waikiki in the back strip. Seriously the cheapest place to eat! It gos from order so like one order is $ 5 bucks then ect. I went there with two of my girlfriends after work and had NOIDEA of the place but they showed it to me and fell in love! I normally don’t roam around this part of Waikiki, but if I ever do I’ll make sure to hit this place up again! The inside is so cute& although the people that work there are extremely native to their culture and hardly speak English. They have good service and the food is good! Try it out:)
