Breakfast for 5.25 and hot malasadas. Very convenient for me but if I had my choice for malasadas I would go elsewhere. Somehow it gets soggy after it sits so make sure u eat it hot!

got a malasada hot. nothing like fresh malasadas. I also tried some other flavors, but you just can’t beat the original. Leonards is still good as well. This one is just on the way home so I figured I’d try it. Non stop line of people coming in and out. Also goodparking because people just come in and pick up and go.

Delicious malasadas, great service! I usually don’t plan things so I can’t wait the five minutes it takes them to cook it: P Today, however, I was in the area and my baby was sleeping so I decided to park out front and call them to place an order. They told me exactly how much it would be, which was great so I wouldn’t have to spend extra time in the store. I ran in to pay and was quickly told that they would bring the malasadas out to me when it was done. Awesome! So back to the car I went, and a couple minutes later, one of the girls brought out my box. I really appreciate that they were so kind and accommodating! The malasadas were delicious! My client had brought me some from here a few months back and they were amazing. But I still had a hankering for Leonard’s so I went a couple of months ago and it was really disappointing. Ever since, I’ve been wanting to try Champions again. And it did not disappoint. My parents really enjoyed it too. The nice thing about the malasadas here is that it tastes good even hours later. This is my new favorite place for malasadas :) I didn’t get to browse the showcase and try anything else, so I’ll be back!!!

We tried this place due to many reviews stating Champion has the best malasadas — NOTTRUE. I regret coming here because they have a limited selection and it was not as good as what reviewers said. At least now I know first hand who really has the best(not Champion). We tried the chocolate malasada, cinnamon roll, and butter roll. Their malasada seemed bleh, was served cold(or old?), and the filling was underwhelming. The cinnamon roll was dry and seemed store-bought rather than in-house-fresh. The butter roll was just so-so, and maybe they forgot to add the«butter» in it.

One of the recommendations people will suggest to tourists in Hawaii is to try a just-off-the-deep fryer malasada. For most tourists this means Leonard’s. On my first trip to Oahu I had Leonard’s and my friend Nadine suggested this place as another(slightly better) alternative. VENUE: Slightly better than Leonard’s with 6 parking spots, one of them being the dedicated disabled parking spot. It’s also a small store with the only furniture being a row of chairs. SERVICE: Nadine has mentioned that the owner was a former Leonard’s worker who wanted to start his own business. He greeted us with a smile and asked what flavor malasada we want. All of us wanted a hot malasada with sugar. He says cheerily«you wait 5 minutes» as he goes in the back and cooks it to order. For $ 0.85 we get a piping hot malasada, which requires something else to hold as it’s that hot. The outside is sugary while the inside is fluffy. The dough is less sweet and more fluffy than a Leonard’s malasada. Though this is best served with a coffee I don’t mind munching it by itself. They don’t serve just malasadas, they have several different flavors of chiffon cake and supposedly they serve breakfast with choice of a breakfast meat and eggs and choice of rice, toast or malasada. This is a little more than $ 5 and runs until 10:30. This place is a good alternative to Leonard’s that taste similar without all the hassles of finding parking and/or waiting in line. One day I’d like to try their chiffon cake as I do like my spongy cakes…

Champion Malasadas came recommended by several of my friends and family members. They are the competition to Leonards. Here, there are no long lines, fast service, and hot malasadas. I needed to buy several boxes of malasadas for my client meeting and I was in and out within 10 minutes. Everyone in here was happy — from the employees to the customers! The malasadas were hot, tasty, and delicious. The main difference between Champions and Leonards is that Champions has a very yellow dough, which is a bit more dense than the Leonards ones. It’s different, but still pretty ono tasty! Food Grade: B+ Service Grade: B+ Worth the Money Grade: B Overall Impression Grade: B+

Fresh tasty Malasadas! We got ours fresh from the oven and they were so good! Only 85cents per Malasada. Definitely recommend going here, parking right out front

The malasadas here are immaculate. A step above Leonard’s; there is no debate. While Leonard’s are really good, Champion’s are really great! My wife and I purchased these flavors: Haupia, Chocolate, Custard, and two of their Original. We ate the Original immediately and we both were instantly impressed by how immaculate they were. The outer crust is crunchy and sugary, and the inside is soft and moist. Fantastic! 5 stars /better than Leonard’s /no debate!

Friendly spot and really close to school. Malasada a are great and cheap compared to others which is one of the best things about them. They have a bunch of pastries to offer: Butter rolls cinnamon rolls Hong Kong bun’s Ensemada’s, Danishes, and chiffon cakes as well as malasada’s. Ten out of ten would make this your go to malasada store for pot lucks and other needs.

We really like the food here, much like others have posted. Their malasadas are as good if not better than Leonards and the breakfast sets are simple but always nicely cooked, homestyle. Delicious! Parking can be a chore but they maximized the space they have to make it as easy as possible. If arriving off-hours, its’s if course much easier. The shop is very clean, has a couple of small tables & chairs but most patrons order, grab, & go. The staff is friendly but I sometimes feel they push the product too much. However, a firm but polite«no-thank you» is all that’s required. We’re regulars, will be coming back often as long as they cook like this & stay in business obviously. Stop by and take a couple dozen malasadas to work one Aloha Friday!

I had high expectations of this place based on Unilocal reviews. The hot and fresh malasadas were good but they weren’t Leonard’s. A definite bonus for this place is that there was no line at all! I loved the texture of the hot & fresh malasada but the flavor was a bit bland. I also heated one up later in the day and it tasted funny, I don’t recommend warming them up. No line, great price but I’ll stick to Leonard’s malasadas based on taste!

It’s been over 2 years since I reviewed Champion Malasadas and I can still say that their flavor and quality of their malasadas are still top-notch. We had just come from dining with friends when the discussion about malasadas came about. It was truly very tempting to go over and get some of these Macanese fried doughnuts. But, we opted to go for a walk instead. While walking, one of our dining partners checked-in to Champion Malasada and ordered ONE to try. We were amazed by her resolve and will-power! So, all the while during our 2-hour walk, my husband and I could only lecherously gaze at the picture of that single malasada. As soon as we returned home, we jumped into our car and made a bee-line to Champion Malasada. When we arrived, the parking lot was packed with cars but we scored the last space. We normally order 8 malasadas because that is the minimum order that will fit into a pastry box instead of being stuffed into a paper bag. The price has increased to $ 0.85 per malasada. We asked the baker/owner to leave the box unsealed to allow the hot-from-the-fryer puffs as we made our way to a Starbucks Café. While placing our order for 2 grande Flat White coffees, other patrons passed by our table as the aromas of freshly fried malasadas drifted out from the box. Even as we greedily stuffed ourselves with the light, springy and sugary puffs, we could see other patrons checking us out like«land sharks». The malasadas were still hot, fresh and perfectly fried.

I used to think that the«other malasada supplier» was the best. I listened to my friends, read the reviews, gave it 2 more tries and came to a conclusion. . The last time I had a Champion malasada, I thought it was too yeasty. That was a while ago. Recently, I went back to give it another chance, and to my surprise, I did not find that yeasty flavor! Instead, I found that the taste was similar to «the competitor». The only difference was that there’s more sugar on the surface of this malasada. It seems like the sugar is pressed onto the surface after it is removed from the fryer. If you don’t like that much white sugar, just brush it off… hahaha! Also — remember to let it sit for a minute while it’s still cooking and let it cool a bit! There’s only one location. You can find Champion Malasada on the right side of Beretania Street between McCully and Punahou streets. It is set back with the free parking lot in the front, so go slowly and look for the little sign up on the pole. When you place your order, the counter staff will politely ask if you don’t mind waiting 5 minutes because they will cook it up fresh for you. Maybe that’s why there is no line here and the parking lot was empty. The tourists are at the Kapahulu store… LOL! While you wait, you can munch on something in the display case. I didn’t want to look because I wanted to avoid temptation. I was challenging myself to just eat one… and I did!(Then I returned 4 hours later to make sure I wasn’t imagining things! Does that count??) There are a few chairs inside the small, air conditioned shop. Beverages in the refrigerator are available for purchase so you can sit and chat! Maybe I’ll return tomorrow for the $ 5.25 breakfast which can include a malasada! Let’s go! I’m hungry now for a malasada that is tied with«the competitor»!

Sour tasting… like a sour dough malasada. Unhappy that I found a hair cooked into the malasada along with greenish/black specks that looked like mold that covered the inside. Not cool Champion Malasada, brush up on sanitation and safety courses.

Fat Tuesday. Ordered my Malasadas, and they were ready to go. At $ 0.85 a piece, how do you go wrong? To me, it’s a little more dough-y than Leonards, but I like it just the same. There’s a little parking lot to park in, and they even serve breakfast and pastries. good stuff!

80 cents malasadas 80 cents FRESH malasadas um, what else do you need to know? BTW, they also have sponge cake in various flavors! And a funky lot where it’s hard to tell what’s a parking spot and what’s not but it’s all good bc you’re about to get 80 cents of amazingness

So. Good!!! While malasadas all generally taste the same, this bakery makes it to order, and it is has a perfect little crunch on the outside while maintaining the warm fluffy doughy goodness on the inside. Service was really friendly, but be prepared to wait a bit since they make your order when you order. I also tried the ensemada which was really good!(Though not as big as some places) Overall, if you are in the area, definitely stop by here, you won’t regret it!

Soo good! We were poofed after eating one too many Malasadas at Leonard’s. At the last minute we decided to give these a try. So glad we did! No frills here and definitely no herds of tourists(yet). Employees(owners) were quick and friendly enough. Just grab your goodies and go type of joint. These Malasadas are excellent. Slightly crisp on the outside and oh so soft within. The interior is what made all the difference at this Malasada shop. It had a perfect chew! They are also cheaper than Leonard’s(please keep it that way). Little parking lot in front of the shop. I tried their Chiffon Cake which had a lovely consistency. It was like biting into a cloud, but a bit lacking in the flavor department though.

I’ve passed by this business so many times as it is practically down the street from where I live. Never seen it packed. In fact, hardly see anyone there. I assumed it just wasn’t worth it. Yup, I was wrong. When I looked up the Unilocal reviews I was surprised to read that it is as good as Leonard’s. That’s making a statement and would require my personal investigation. As I was pulling in another car was pulling out. No one else there as I walked in greeted by an elderly gentleman. He asks what I would like. I let him know it’s my first time here as he stares at my camera. He suggests it’s best to get the hot malasadas for 80cents each. While he goes in the back to get my half dozen order I start to take pics. I notice he’s got filled ones to for $ 1.20 and they look plumpy delicious. I’ll have to come back for some at a later date. I didn’t wait long but it was long enough to smell malasadas bringing a foray of memories to my head. I’m about to feint when he hands me my bag. He says be careful because they’re hot. That’s how I like them. I take a bite and my senses come back. I don’t know what to think except for one thing. They are delicious. The sugary taste wrapping around the soft, chewy hot dough is sweetness to my mouth. I’m thinking I don’t know if I have enough to share with my significant other working hard at home. I continue to eat. When I get to the last of the six… eh, what she don’t know won’t hurt her. I’ll bring her down some time later. Before I get home I already know I’ll be back there tomorrow, first thing in the morning. Looking for some good malasadas? With easy parking? And, no lines to contend with? Prices fairly good? You’ll get all that from this friendly, engaging gentlemen at this spot. Note to self: Bring chocolate milk next time.

I’m not a malasada connoisseur … but I must say, these malasadas are broke-da-mouth! They are always compared to Leonard’s, and it seems like people are split 50 – 50 on who makes it better. IMHO, they are both equally fresh and satisfying. But what I love about Champion Malasadas is that they are not a tourist trap like Leonard’s. You can drive right up and find parking, and not have to wait in line. You have to wait for them to cook your malasada, since they are all made to order, but it’s definitely worth the wait, because malasadas must be consumed fresh from the fryer for optimal taste. The only downside to these guys is that they are quite inflexible when it comes to their box policy. If you want your malasadas to be packed nicely in a box, you must order them in quantities of 8. At least that is what their policy was when I came to buy my malasadas yesterday(which was Fat Tuesday). As Dave F mentioned, their chiffon cakes are delicious too!
