The miso butterfish, crunchy roll, and salmon belly were awesome! Service was spectacular too. Clean. Forgot to take pics but see it for yourself. I heard there is more great items to try so I’ll be back.

The sushi was delicious service was fast and friendly. Parking wasn’t that great. I parked over at sports authority but got a ticket for doing so. But the sushi was excellent.

Sushi is the best so far on this island, but not to the PNW standards. I guess we’re spoiled. Customer service is okay. Atmosphere is comfortable and pleasant. Worth a try!

Very disappointed with my visit here. I really don’t know how they can have such good reviews. First of all, it was not so clean. We were sat next to a counter near the front that was so filthy I didn’t want to put my purse down on it. Second there were these weird big gnat bugs or flies flying around and landing on the table(and the food if I hadn’t swatted them away) the whole time we were there. Disgusting. The food was not great. Some of these sushi places need to understand that when you drench a roll in sauce it overpowers what should be the subtle flavors and ruins it. The steak appetizer was in a weird gravy and was tough and fatty. Total bummer.

I’m always satisfied when I eat here. If you’re here before 6’30 get the special, tempura consists of two shrimp, sweet potato, carrot and broccoli, plus I choose Teri chicken and sashimi. It was more then enough. $ 14.00, and go wrong highly recommend.

Haven’t been here for a while, maybe 4 – 5 years or so. Nothing has changed. Started with a couple of half signature rolls, agedashi tofu, and a spicy tuna roll. I came here at 5:30pm so i was able to order their early bird special with tempura and teriyaki chicken. Good food and great service. I have to come here again and more often before the new developments takes place or not.

This place is my absolute favorite sushi joint on the island. Service is great and the food is even greater. The sushi is so fresh and you can see the chefs making it behind the counter. They have a wide variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and entrees to choose from. My go-to dishes are the hamachi carpaccio, gandubie roll, and the miso butterfish w/tempura combo and you wash it down with an ice cold glass of Asahi, YUM! I omit a star because they are not open for lunch on the weekends. Why oh why would you do that?! I would be visiting you guys more often if I can stop by for lunch. Dinner time gets pretty crowded, and the place is pretty small, so I recommend coming in early. Parking is limited behind the restaurant, so there are times where I would have to park across the street at Ross.

Had dinner here on Friday for a friends birthday party. Had a tray of sushi that came with 4 pieces of all kinds of sushi with a choice of 2 rolls. The platter was huge. Yummy sushi. Great service. The food kept coming.

Had some friends visiting from Oregon and I thought they would like to try some sushi and I Unilocaled this place because I didn’t want to go to the typical Genki sushi which is overrated. This place was 10 times better. Also I like the personal service that was given to us. However, my wife seems to feel the opposite but again opposites attract. They also have mixed drinks so I would recommend asking what is the most popular people has ordered there; which, we ordered the sake. It was great. Pricewise it was in the middle not too cheap and not too expensive; $$. So if you’re looking for a hole in the wall type of sushi, this would be a good place to try for the first time. And if you like them come back.

I was able to try this place once so far! Ordered: dragon roll which is always good. Also had the kimchi edenami. It was really good with the right amount of spicy. I really liked this place. Hope to go back soon and try other selection items on their menu!

If you are thinking of eating here, you might as well just go to Safeway or 711 and pick up some pre-packaged sushi. Unfortunately, that’s what the sushi here tastes like. I consider myself a sushi connoisseur so I could tell by just looking at the sushi that I was going to be disappointed. They don’t even use sushi rice and there was way too much rice in the sushi rolls. Their«hamachi» was definitely the lower grade pieces and this goes for the ahi. Very, very disappointing. Don’t be fooled by the«awesome» reviews. This is generic sushi and by no means authentic. In all honesty, the best thing we ordered was the pumpkin crunch ice cream for $ 2.50.

I tried this place for the first time last night. It did not disappoint!!! I found the décor to be interesting. There’s a lot of sports memorabilia and these two beautiful paintings hanging on the wall. It’s different for a sushi restaurant, but still cool. The staff is very professional and friendly. Our waitress was great and when we were leaving they all said bye and thanks for coming. It’s a good feeling when people appreciate your business. We ordered a couple of bottles of sake. They are served in the cutest little glass teapot. I recommend the Lychee flavored sake it’s ono. For our meal we had the miso butterfish, hot lava roll, flaming tuna, and the lobster roll. The lobster roll was delicious. It was my absolute favorite out of everything we ordered. I highly recommend it. However, the lava roll was just okay. I liked the spicy habanero aioli that came with it, but I don’t think that I would order it again. They have a bunch of signature rolls that I can’t wait to go back and try :)

My review is going to be very similar to my father’s, Curtis C. Our family comes here as often as possible as it’s a favorite for us. We’ve tried most of the items on the menu and everything is absolutely delicious. However, we do have our favorites and for those we usually have to order at least two orders to make sure everyone gets enough. Must order the hamachi. Maybe order two or three of those. I had dreams about this dish when I lived in New York and it was my first stop when I would come home. Thank goodness now that I’m back at home for good I can come back to my favorite restaurant as often as I want. The miso butterfish with spinach is another family favorite. The only place that can compete is Roy’s. Other family favorites are the ahi tataki, the principal roll, and my parents like the oyster shooters with the quail egg. We always have an amazing time here and I know you will too! Definitely take the time to come and check out this great place on Ward.

When you go to work on a holiday, it is an unwritten rule that you treat yourself by going out to lunch while almost everyone else on the island enjoys their day off. Thankfully, I wasn’t the only one in the office on the recent Kamehameha Day holiday, so a few of us ventured to Rock N’ Sushi for a lunch adventure. We were also celebrating a belated birthday, which made lunch even more fun! We drove down and got to the restaurant around 11:20am. Parking is behind the building… you need to make a right off Ward past the restaurant(if you are in the makai direction) and then the lot will be on your right. Then you need to walk around to the restaurant entrance on Ward Ave. We didn’t have a reservation for our party of 4, and were seated immediately. The seating area is pretty small, so if you are coming at a busy time or have a large group its probably best to have a reservation. The menu at Rock N’ Sushi was very extensive, especially if you take into account all the early bird/lunch specials! I felt like getting a roll, so I decided on the Rattlesnake roll($ 14) which isn’t on their list of lunch specials. Its a shrimp tempura roll with a layer of unagi over the top… two of my favorite things combined! There were 8 pieces, but the roll was very filling and satisfying. Since we were celebrating a belated birthday, we requested a birthday dessert and were given the green tea tempura ice cream with a candle on top. I am not a big fan of green tea, so only tried a tiny bit, but their tempura ice cream is unique because they put a layer of pound cake over the ice cream before they tempura fry it. Also, its important to note that your birthday dessert is not complimentary! Just in case that’s a deal breaker for you on selecting a restaurant for birthdays. TL;DR — parking in the back, no comps on birthdays, and satisfying Rattlesnake roll!

First time trying out this place with a friend. The ambience is okay, the food was really good, and my waitress was friendly and gave good service(can’t say that for the other waitress who just stood around and talked to the other workers. Not sure if she was on break but she ignored me when I tried to get her attention). Hint to management… if your employee is on break, have then leave the restaurant. We were seated at a small table for two, and it seemed okay at the time. But we ordered three different dishes: the Rockin Poppin Shrimp, Hamachi kama, and the Lobster Roll. The table is too small for 3 different dishes. So if you’re planning to eat more than two entrée or appetizers, ask for a larger table even if it’s for two people. Next time I’ll try their happy hour special. A bonus for this place… lots of parking in the back of the building.

after numerous times passing by here while on my way to UFC gym, I finally tried this place out! Wow, why only now I ate here you ask? beats me, well on second thought we actually came here when traffic to the west was horrendous as usual and was anticipated a 3 hour time frame. So the hubby and I decided we should eat dinner in the area. We felt like japanese and one of our friends at the gym recommended we eat here. WoW, their bento box items = HUGE portions! very filling. I ordered the tempura mix w/chicken katsu, love love their katsu sauce a lil different form what i’m used too. My husband got their sashimi sampler and man was their cuts thick and fresh!

I was in the mood for sushi so decided to come here for dinner. We were seated at the counter and ordered a few things off the happy hour menu. They have $ 2 per piece nigiri and $ 2.50 hand rolls and $ 7 half sushi rolls along with other appetizers like Gyoza and tempura etc. Food here is ok but not great. The quality of the sushi here is ok too. I heard that their lunch specials are worth more the money. Service here is ok. I think overall it’s worth getting their combo meals. I left still feeling quite hungry after ordering few things off happy hour menu but still spent about $ 40. Overall ok restaurant but can’t compare to Sushi II of course of Naru but then again it’s ok for the price.

A great place for lunch or early dinner! Located on Ward Ave., across of Sports Authority, there is lots of free parking in the lot behind. Definitely a plus! I’ve been frequenting this place for years and it hasn’t changed. Ambience is mediocre but the food and service are great! For starters, I always order the Chester Chicken or Chester Squid. Battered and topped with a garlic soy sauce, both are so delicious and has always been my fave dish here! Their lunch combos are also a great deal! I ordered the Garlic Ahi Super Combo($ 13). It comes with generous pieces of ahi sautéed in garlic butter and soy sauce. The super combo also includes: rice, miso soup, California roll sushi, croquette, salad, shumai and fried chicken. Loved the ahi sauce and all the sides that came with this dish. My bf ordered the Butterfish Combo($ 12). That came with two pieces of miso marinated butterfish, sashimi, salad and miso soup. The butterfish was cooked perfectly, and the portions were just right. Service here has always been top-notch…the waitresses are so friendly. We didn’t have sushi this time but I heard that it’s great. Will definitely be back for sushi AND my faves — Chester chicken and squid!

When sushi comes to mind, I automatically think about Japanese restaurants like izakayas and such. I never wanted to try California Beach Rock N Sushi because the name threw me off. I know people always say never judge a book by its cover and I think that applies in this case too. First off, the sushi is legit. Super fresh, super authentic, and super delicious. I didn’t want to order nigiri sushi because I wasn’t confident about the quality of the sushi so I decided to play it safe and ordered a specialty roll. I ordered the hot lava roll which is spicy tuna roll covered in tempura flakes. It’s served on top of their special spicy sauce and jalapeño masago. $ 14 and worth every dollar despite it being a bit on the pricey side. This particular roll is the spiciest on the menu but it wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be. My spicy tolerance is rather quite high so it just left a lingering tingle in my throat. I also ordered oyster shooters, $ 6 for two oysters. If you want quail egg it’s $ 7. Simple garnish, nothing fancy or out of the ordinary but it satisfied my oyster craving. I personally thought that there was a little too much ponzu but I’m sure some folks like it that way. Next time I’ll definitely try it with the quail egg. I can’t wait to come back and try the nigiri sushi and sashimi! Not sure where the parking lot is for this place but we just parked by the movie theatre and walked over.

Tonight I spent one magical night getting together with old friends, and to honor a good friend who has left us too soon. California Beach Rock n’ Sushi was the place of choice tonight, as it was also the place where our good friend had worked. What can I say about this place… the food is outstanding!!! But the sake is even better!!! For my meal tonight, I ended up ordering a soft shell crab salad, but that’s not where it stopped. I also ordered two round bottles of Otokoyama junmai sake. And no, I did NOT drink it all by myself… my friends were nice enough to throw down with me. That’s a good thing, as no one wants to drink alone. ;) There were many other items we had ordered tonight… just check out the pics! But a few outstanding items I immensely enjoyed was the Hamachi, Karaage Chicken, & Miso Butterfish. Service was 100 times above EXCELLENT! But it sure helps if you know people too! Thank you Chenay & Reid for taking good care of us tonight. There was a lot of us, but you ran the table like no-body’s business! As we were ready to part ways tonight, I could not help but reminisce about the good old days… can’t believe we’ve known each other for about 20 years now. So much has changed, but yet we are all still together, and looking out for one another. That’s what FRIENDSHIP is all about! Life is short, take the time out to let your loved ones, & friends know that you care, and love them!
