Spicy pork… OMG… I love it. It is like a spicy pork teriyaki… I am in heaven. Very reasonably priced 8.00. Not a huge menu, but if everything else is this good, wow! I went to the location on Mililani in Downtown.

I tried this lunch wagon today and it was soooo good! I ordered the boneless Kal Bi plate with brown rice and Mac salad. The meat was so tasty and soft. The Mac salad was yummy and fresh. There was a line so I decided to try it and I was not disappointed! I will definitely be back again!!! I got a menu to take back to the office that shows the daily specials. Yum!

I tried this place for lunch. I didn’t expected it to be great but it was surprisingly tasty. The seafood platter is my fave. I don’t usually eat from a lunch wagon due to sanitary reasons. I just don’t trust a eatery that doesn’t have clean running water. Sometime I see them handle the money and then the food without wearing latex gloves. I didn’t have to run to the bathroom after eating from here so that is a good sign.

I went here out on a limb. I was tired of the same ol same ol lunch wagons and wanted something new. I noticed this wagon tucked away next to ACME fender. It was advertising guava chicken. I hadn’t had guava chicken in years and hurried over to the wagon. The guava chicken goes for $ 7 and you can get a combo plate of tri-steak(lean but juicy) and guava chicken for $ 9. I’ve tried both and must say I came away impressed. The guava chicken is very tender and juicy and full of flavor. It took me back to the good ol days of bbq on the beach with marinated guava chicken frying on the grill. It really hit the spot! Although the steak is lean(no fat) it really was juicy. I was afraid it was going to be dry and bland but it too was full of flavor. The owner is very friendly and loves to talk story. Really makes you feel comfortable. Sadly, I don’t think they are open anymore. The wagon and sign is still there but every time I glance over the gate leading to the wagon is closed. I hope this wagon comes back because the food awesome!

A good rule for eating out: Go where the line is. I’d finished a good gym workout and was in need of some protein. There are several BBQ meat choices on this little snippet of Halekauwila near ACME Fender, but I went towards the place with the line. «Place» is a bit of an overstatement. Any Kine Grindz is a small lunch wagon, sitting in a small gravel lot, with a blue-tarp tent and picnic bench. They have a 3 item menu: guava chicken, steak plate and special of the day, which today was chicken adobo. All plates are $ 7 and come with a choice of white or brown rice and a tossed salad(pieces of romain with a choice of dressing). You can also order a combo for $ 8. Sodas are a buck. I got the guava chicken because they’d just put a fresh batch of steak on the grill and I didn’t want to wait 10 minutes. I am pleased to report the chicken was moist and tender, mildy sweet, cut pupu style, and perfectly cooked.(No black flakes or bits to scrape off.)

First off, Im hungry. I work close to Restaurant Row and, in my opinion, lunch time sucks there(besides a few places like that sushi place and Hokulani Bakery *yum*). So I ventured back toward the court house side and decided to go to the New Wave Café. Which, in my opinion again, isnt really that good either but its better than Restaurant Row. I looked at the food and it didnt look to appetizing to me. The guy behind the counter was just about to ask me what I wanted when I turned around and walked out, still hungry. Across the street I see a small trailer and a sign that says «Guava Chicken, Steak Plate» Looks small, just one table, one tent, a trailer, a grill, and a truck. «Ah, why not.» is what I thought. So off I went across the street. The prices were pretty decent, $ 7 for a steak or guava chicken plate or $ 8 for a combo. Comes with 2 scoops white or brown rice and a tossed salad with choice of dressing. I was talking story with the owner who was really nice. He let me sample his guava chicken and I must say, it was pretty good. It was sweet with a light smokey flavor, kinda like huli-huli chicken. He told me he used tri-tip for his steaks. It had a good flavor, something I would make back at home. It wasnt salty or over seasoned either. I should also say that its not a «cook to order» place so all the steak was about medium-medium/well cooked. I love raw meat but this one onlyl had a light pink in the middle, I still enjoyed it though. So I ended up getting the Combo Plate which consisted of really good portions of both chicken and steak, 2 scoops brown rice, and salad with ranch dressing. He threw in a bottle of water for free too. All together, the damage came out to $ 8. Not bad price for some pretty good food! I recommend checking this place out. Aloha! PS– its kinda like a small/side business Blazin Steaks with better tasting food, bigger plates, and no attitude like the counter help at most of those places. Really nice guys!
