The guy wasn’t very friendly. The sign says they’re open and he asks at the door«what do you want?» He let me in, i tried to make conversation and he stops me says he’s interested in selling, let him know if i wanna buy something. After a few minutes he says he has to run some errands, if i wanna buy something, I’ll help you now. Told him forget it I’m leaving. If you know what you want… great. If you’re there to browse, don’t waste your time.

I visited George’s store back in August with my family as we were visiting on vacation. We called ahead to let George know we were stopping by and he told us the best time to come. He’s been in the antique business many years and is very knowledgeable about his treasures so he has earned the right to be «eccentric». So what? He’s a very nice educated gentleman! It’s a treat to spend a couple of hours in his store because if you’re not paying attention, you could really miss spotting something wonderful! In an age of Cost-cos, Walmart’s, and cookie cutter department stores, it’s a breath of fresh(or stale air) to find this gem of a store still in business! So now whenever I go back to Honolulu you can bet I’ll be making the special trip to George’s store. Do yourself a favor and leave the little one’s at home. This is a place you want to enjoy at leisure! You go George! And Mahalo again for all my treasures! Leslie C. Vancouver, Washington

Wow, I was really surprised to see the low rating on the store and in particular, George himself. He has been nothing but nice to us. Yeah, he opens when he wants to and takes a while to get to the front door but to me, that just adds to the charm. You’re not shopping at Wal-mart here. It’s just George and his treasures. We stumbled across his store two years ago and made it a point to visit again on this last one. It’s so jam packed that it’s hard to move around but if you spend the time, he has some fabulous finds. How can you blame him for being a little wary about who he lets in to his store? So easy to slip something into your pocket. I can’t wait for our next trip back so we can visit him again. 5 stars for both George and his store.

the guy is a jerk! dont waste your time! it was my first time there and i guess i didnt pass the security checkpoint«q&a» because he told me he was closing for lunch and to come back later. i truly believe it was because i had my two children with me that we weren’t welcomed into his troll hole. LOL. anyways, he gave me the creeps and certainly doesn’t deserve my business!

Okay, okay. I’m upgrading to 5 stars, simply because the other Unilocaler gave them a 1 star, because the owner was weird. That’s my whole point with liking this place, these types of businesses are dying everyday because of the box store invasion. The owner’s not weird, just a tad eccentric. Well, maybe a tad weird, hence the 5 stars.

I’d give it 0-stars if that was an option. First of all, the damn cave troll inside takes forever to come to the door. And to gain entry, you need to answer its questions. If he doesn’t like your answers, you can not pass and look at his junk. This guy has to be a hoarder. I really don’t think he wants to get rid of anything. The first thing he asked me was«You want to sell something?» I reply, «What??? No. I came with the intention of buying knicknacks and odd shelf pieces.» Next, he asks me what I’m looking for. I reply, «I don’t know. I buy stuff that catches my eye.» Then he tells me, «Oh. I’m not open.» But the neon sign that says«open» is lit. «Turn the fu#king thing off then!» I yell at him. What a waste of my time. Hey old man, from the sound of your cough, you’re not long for this world. You can’t take the crap with you. Sell it and enjoy a nice vacation. Jerk

New location opened by George T. Kurisu who used to own and run the store at its original location in Chinatown for nearly 25 years. This location is located on N. School St. right before you hit the Foodland. It’s in odd location that’s sorta close to Shimazu’s. An eclectic mix of Asian, Western, and Hawaiiana antiques and collectibles jam-packed into this nondescript building. I took a photo of his business, but will get photo of the location bumbai.
