Nice little spot on the water. Best & freshest shrimp we’ve had while visiting the area. Cash only but they do have an atm. Word of advice, if ya see a table near the water, grab it. That place fills up fast!

This was my second visit there. I went back thinking I missed something the first time. I didn’t although the second visit resulted in the«order taker» at the bar forgot to turn in my ticket. My opinion actually is about the same as it was the first time. This out of the way, loud, no service, stand around look for a table(15 mins), stand in line to order(50 mins) then wait for your food(25 mins) results in food that is average while costing slightly higher then average. Oh, BTW, have fun looking for a parking space. I failed to understand the attraction then and I sure still do not understand. No longer matters cause I’m done.

Went on a recent Friday while visiting family, we had dinner in this hidden gem. The steamed shrimp were absolutely incredibly tasty, my husband who doesn’t like shrimp even said they were good. Driving by you would never even know it was a restaurant, so glad we stopped and tried it!

Well — one word — DELICIOUS! We had a full order of the shrimp and an order of mussels. I’m not one for«peel & eat» but this shrimp was well worth it! The cocktail sauce was perfect, although we could have used more. The mussels were good, had great flavor, we liked them. The atmosphere is casual, looks like anything goes here. They were out of clam chowder and several other items, we’ll go back again a little earlier and try our luck. All in all, we had 2 pitchers of draft beer, a full order of shrimp and an order of mussels for less than $ 40. Our server, Austin, was exceptionally helpful and friendly, we double-tipped him. Highly recommend this place!!!

When you 1st approach this place, you think you’re in the wrong place or your mind might be saying«maybe not», but do yourself a favor & don’t allow yourself to be discouraged from going in for heaps of delicious steamed shrimp and snow crab and clam chowder delight for ridiculously low fare. You order from the bar under the big sign that says«order here» and then grab a seat & wait for all your yummy food to be brought out to you. The crab was delicious, the shrimp was delicious, and the clam chowder was delicious. I expect I’ll eat here every time I’m in the area. Enjoy! We had so much food for under $ 30. Saving coin while filling belly is almost always a gr8 thing & worth at least 4 stars.

A friend highly recommended this place, and she was spot on! Generous portions, great prices, great food. When we pulled up, we were a bit apprehensive. Nothing about the place shouts, «great restaurant, come on in.» But looks are deceiving. Definitely a local place, tucked out of the way. The restaurant is to the left, the fish market to the right. Don’t be fooled: Go right in, order at the service bar, pay(cash only) and enjoy a delicious, plentiful meal. I had been to Homosassa several times before I found this place. Now I’ll make it a stop every time I come.

This place is the bee’s knees and awesome sauce and the shizzle all rolled into one. The menu and offerings are simple: crab legs, shrimp, mullet, mussels, etc, but the execution is perfection. I have never had anything from here that was less than stellar and every time I return is just as good as the first. My family insists on stopping here at least twice every trip and I’ve never been disappointed. The place is cash-only, but you won’t need a lot because the food and beer are dirt cheap. I don’t know how they do it, honestly. I’ve watched the catch come off the boats right at the dock, but I have never seen them rob the fishermen at gunpoint; I’m assuming they’re on the up-and-up. The only negative is the place gets REALLYHOT during the summer. But hey, get it to go and make sure they put in extra butter and hot sauce. Then you can eat it in your own AC and plan your next trip. If you’ve never been to the Freezer twice, it’s only because you’ve never been once. Make this a tradition and thank me later!

Tucked away in Homosassa. Delicious! Stone crab season is wonderful. Steamed shrimp are excellent. Crab legs are great. Try a Blue Moon/Angry Orchard pitcher. It is a light and mildly fruity beer to drink with this awesome food. I try to come here every time I come to visit my sister! LOVEIT!

This is great locals secret. It is a cash only, no service establishment. You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors. Call before you go to see how busy they are. But it worth the wait. The steamed shrimp are incredible. The Cedar Key Red on tap compliments the steamed shrimp. Again…it is a must go to every time we come to town.

Hands down my favorite Homosassa eatery. From it humble beginnings the dining room is actually the old drive-in freezer for their fish house. Cash only(they have an ATM), but the food is out of this world. No frills, almost to-go style as almost(ironic, I know) all of their seafood are caught by their own boats. Surprisingly their clam chowder is second to none. Clams are sourced from cedar key, just a puddle jump away. Stop I’m the market to take some in cooked seafood to make at home. A must visit.

We went to this place after a great day of scalloping. Great set up and great local atmosphere. If you are looking to go fancy schmancy, drive right on by and choose someplace else. The food is a bit on the pricey side, not way out there, but it was more than I expected. Oh yeah, don’t show up without cash in your pocket, CASHONLY! They do have an ATM just in case. The food was good, really good even, but not quite spectacular. The service is so so. No one seemed particularly excited that we were there, but the dealt with us, were friendly enough, and got the order right. I don’t make it up to Hommossassas often, but my guess is there are slim pickens when it comes to eateries to choose from. If you are in the area, I recommend giving it a try, not because it is likely one of only a few places to eat, but because it is good.

This place is damn near perfect. Indoor seating also available, picnic tables out on the dock as well. Located right on the water on the Homosassa, this may be the cheapest I’ve ever paid for seafood for the best seafood I’ve ever had. Ordered the mussels(in season), half order of shrimp, snow crab legs and pretzel, oh and a local red ale(or two) AND a glass of house white for $ 40. Not only was it cheap, considering what all you got, but as I mentioned, the food was fresh and delish. Don’t overlook this place. Drive your car in from 19 or bring your boat back here. Whatever you do, do yourself a favor and eat here.

According to our scalloping captain, this place has the best fresh outta the Gulf steamed peel and eat shrimp around. Generally, I prefer my shrimp to come out on a plate with the legs pre-removed, be being that we had just caught our own scallops, I might as well stay out of my comfort zone. The skin and legs peel off with ease and the shrimp was exceptional. I was very pleased. Just a few side notes, they do have a small selection of beer and the back bar tucked into the wall will give you food. The food line was really long, and when we discovered that little secret we really shortened our wait. Also note, cash only. The place was crowded and we had 8 people. We were lucky to find a table at 3pm on a Saturday. I bet it can be difficult to get a table there for a group around peak dining hours. Also, the place is open to the air, near the river, and has a real back woods feel. It really appears as though this place used to be a freezer. But since it was opened to the outside, some flies did prove a bit annoying while enjoying the amazing shrimp. I also had the chips and salsa which was sub par but really was not expecting much, just wanted some additional carbs so I did not subsist on shrimp and scallops all day! The takeaway from all this rambling is that our boat captain was right, this place really had some amazing shrimp. I will be back for scalloping and will definitely hit this place up again next year!

Fantastic! Neat little joint right on the water, definitely a spot where the locals(of which I am not) hang out. I’m glad I read the other reviews and knew ahead of time to go up to the bar and order. Cash only, but supposedly they have an atm, although I never saw it. The smoked salmon dip was amazing, two thumbs up, and it went perfectly with the homemade hot sauce. Next time I will order and extra hot sauce! The shrimp, which they are famous for, was a hit for my husband, but I wasn’t a fan of the fake butter they give you with it. I prefer the real thing. We also got the homemade clam chowder, and it was piping hot and full of clams and potatoes. If I lived up here that would be my regular haunt! Cheap, ice cold beer, and outstanding salmon dip. We will most definitely be back!

I was visiting the area and was taken to The Freezer by a local. The atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for, laid back with outdoor seating. There was an added bonus of boat docking for to go orders. There isn’t anything impressive when you drive up, but when you walk up you can watch the chef making the food in the outdoor kitchen. We walked in and through the bar to place our order at the back counter. The food was fairly inexpensive. It’s a dive with flavor. They don’t have fryers, so don’t expect fries and onion rings. We ordered dry rubbed wings and steamed seasoned shrimp(their specialty). We found a table and waited for our order outside in the beautiful weather watching the boats come and go. They have a very hi-tech system of letting you know when you food is ready… a server comes out and yells your name, you yell«yo!» and they walk over and give you the food. It’s perfect. The wing were HOT& crispy and the shrimp were delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was friendly, helpful and quick. I’ll be back.

This is a wonderful place in the Crystal River area to get some fresh local seafood and go to a great local hang out. The steamed shrimp was delicious and didn’t need the butter or cocktail sauce to accompany it. It was also a great price for a pound and a half of shrimp! The clam chowder was also very good, reminded me of the clam chowder you can get on the Cape or Newport, RI. My dad had the salmon dip and thoroughly enjoyed it! For those who don’t care for seafood, there are hot dogs and pretzels, but honestly come here for the shrimp! Great find in the Crystal River Area!
