Back in the early 2000s, this place was IT. It had a certain mystique that every place today lacks. But alas, it eventually lost it’s magic and closed. :(

First time, I went to Denise Richards reality show wrap party which was three years ago. It was closed to the public and filled with everyone who had worked on the show. It was ok, not as nice as Standard Rooftop. I was just the gf who attended a work party. This time someone we knew got us a table and bottle of champagne. The crowd was fun and lively. The music got better as the night progressed. I enjoyed hanging out with friends and dancing.

Came here while partying in WeHo. It was kinda hidden lol. We had to walk through The Standard and a small restaurant/diner to get to the lounge itself. No cover! I was surprised. I was positive we would have to pay a cover to get in. It was very nice inside! We didn’t stay long though because it wasn’t as «cracken» as we thought it would be on a Friday night. I didn’t care too much for the music the DJ was spinnin’ either. I came to get my dance on so we ended up leaving to head to another spot. I’d come here again on another night though. I think we just caught it on an off night.

How is this place not more reviewed? It’s in Hollywood, off Sunset and only has 30-odd reviews? Well anyway, my friend came back from Japan a couple days ago and the first thing she said once she was back was«we gotta go to the Standard!!» She said her friend was DJing, so I thought, ok I guess. Having no idea what The Standard was, I Unilocaled it faster than you can say«google.» The first spot that came up was the Standard in DTLA, so I checked out the pictures, and that place looked insane: rooftop bar with a pool in the middle and an amazing view of LA. I dressed accordingly and was ready to get my alky on. Once we were on our way, I made more inquiries about where we’re headed and it turned out that there’s two Standards: one in LA and one in Hollywood. Just my luck. When I arrived here, I realized I was way overdressed. Some people were in jeans and a hoodie! It’s more of a hipster spot than the other more upscale-looking one. But no matter. After about half an hour, my friend’s group of friends all arrived, and we started ordering drinks. I will say that the drinks are pretty strong, but they’re too small for the price. To start off the night, I got my regular, Long Island. To my surprise, it came in a whiskey on the rocks type glass, not the usual tall glass. Lame. I think it was around 12 bucks. Then my friend ordered me my first appletini ever, which was really good and very strong, but it was also $ 12. Maybe I’m just used to your neighborhood dive/pub, but for me this is on the expensive side for a tiny lounge in the back of a restaurant on the first floor of an inconspicuous hotel. Service was great though, I’m not gonna lie. Bartenders always on their toes, waiting for you to order your next glass of poison. Overall, a nice little spot with lots of pretty people, but I would recommend pre-drinking at some other dive and coming here once it gets poppin’!

Been to The Purple Lounge two times, on a Friday and Sunday. The valet parking is $ 7 if you get it validated. There’s no entry fee, so that’s always a plus. The interior was nice, just a big purple room, but the size of the lounge is not that big. The two times that i went, it wasn’t very crowded, so there were plenty of place where you could sit. I really like the music, they usually play some pretty good house music here. The crowd are the typical Hollywood hipsters mostly in there early 20s. The drinks here are good but typical LA price, $ 8 for beer & $ 14 for cocktails. I would definitely come back here again!!!

I’ve been here three times now and I can officially say that I will never go here again. It’s called a lounge most likely because of how small it is but it really is just trying to be like a club. The music is WAY too loud. I can barely hear myself talk let alone the person I’m trying to talk to. And there’s barely a dance floor. Another annoying thing is that the couches are so low, that it’s difficult to sit with a short dress on, and the tables are the same height as the couches so basically you can only get clusters of two, maybe three people. It always has a VERY mixed crowd here. From attractive twenty-somethings, to older businessmen, to a few foreigners, to some not so cute club-rats. Purple Lounge tries to be both a club and a lounge but ends up failing miserably at both. It is too small and doesn’t have a strict enough bouncing policy to be a club and it is too loud and uncomfortable to be a lounge. Simply put, it’s just a weird place. It also doesn’t help that you have to walk through the Standard’s restaurant to get there.

3 Stars Setup is nice and the staff is great! I know they had music, but don’t remember how it was. The bar was a little crowded, but the bartenders were on top of it, so there wasn’t really a wait. All the drinks were pretty good(if you’re there w/a big group, start off the night w/everyone trying a buttery nipple shot). Cool crowd, decent looking too…

Imagine a place in Hollywood called«the purple lounge» and it is exactly what you expect. It makes sense if you’ve been there, trust me. It’s a lounge and it’s very purple. Although, to be quite honest it does look pretty cool in there. I went on a Wednesday, and I hear the crowd varies from night to night and that is a better day to go — I know I enjoyed myself! Good music and everybody was having a good time. And I’m not one to complain about drink prices, because Long Islands are always pricey, but Jesus that was a sweet, gross one they poured. Bring a flask.

Purple Lounge is really small and it’s a shame because there’s great music and no room to dance. The atmosphere and layout is great, but they just need more space! The downside to having less space is how stuffy the place gets too. They have air blowing from the ceiling, but they’re located in pockets so you have to move to find a spot that is blowin the air. The other downside is that the outside smoking patio is way too close to the entrance back into the lounge so the entire lounge(again, due to small size I expect) smells like smoke. Stuffy + smoky = headaches. Some pros — pretty venue, great music(no top-40 nonsense, just good music to dance to), $ 10 valet(which you can apparently validate if you order something at 24⁄7 diner), 2 for 1 drinks before 11pm, 24⁄7 diner right outside the lounge(GET the sweet potato fries they’re amazing! u can even order them inside the lounge), and no cover. if you’re into good music, this is the place to come. this is the biggest reason i keep coming back(yay Controversy, go rej!) Cons — expensive drinks($ 10 for wells and $ 14 for vodka redbull to give you an idea), stuffy, a bit too small, and since it’s such a small place, the type of crowd actually affects the overall vibe of the night(i went 3 times in 4 weeks and the amount of fun i had was directly related to the crowd of the night).

Expensive, so so drinks but because the ambiance is quaint, cool and loungy, so I guess it makes it worth it. Theres a small outside patio smoking area with heat lamps which is a nice contrast to the purple mood lighting inside with blaring electronic music. Parking on Sunset sucks too… so I suppose if I were going to invest $ 15 to park and do it again, I’d make a night out of it starting here at the Standard and migrating to Cabo Cantina and see where the night takes me. If I remember correctly, I’m pretty sure the bartenders were quite good looking.

I had a great time here! Beautiful confident people, strong drinks, great music, warm purple glows all over, the place itself is not overly crowded but the dance floor is so teeny!!! =(And after all, that’s a big part of me going out at night… so I can dance! As most people have mentioned, you have to walk through The 24⁄7 Restaurant( ) in The Standard Hotel( ) which I have mixed feelings about. On one hand you’re basically walking through a diner so it feels a bit on the low scale but on the other hand, it feels all cutty VIP secret society. LOL We met a great new friend here. So nice to meet you, LJL, and can’t wait to get together when I visit again! =)

I get that it’s Hollywood, but why on earth should a drink consisting of 1 liquor and 1mixer ever cost $ 12. Considering how slow they were even on a Thursday night, they should fix their prices. That’s the only downside. Other than that, I like the Purple Lounge, it has a good vibe to it. It has the potential to be the cool place to be seen, but you have to get people in first. Literally, right before we left, we were the only people in there at like 11. They have some couch swings, with couches to sit and chat which are perfect if you have a group of people. Oh and their bottle service is really overpriced $ 350 for a bottle of Goose!

The Purple Room at the Standard in Hollywood is a very sexy lounge. But unfortunately, that’s the only highlight I can really give it. Yes it’s sexy with all of the purple colors and it does have a certain feel to it, but unless you are part of a private party or make a reservation for bottle service then you will not have any place to sit and lounge. I also found their selection of music quite horrendous. I am only one woman with one opinion but I know that whenever I go somewhere to dance I expect a wide selection of music. The whole night all they played was techno and trance music, which I love and it’s great, but unless I’m on ecstasy, I can’t really enjoy it the whole night. It just felt like the same music was played over and over and over. And there was one moment where my friends and I felt like we were in a video game because of the beats that were played. My friend and I even asked the DJ for one request, which was to play Ludacris’ ‘How Low Can You Go’, and he flat out said that he wouldn’t. I guess he was just going by what he thought the crowd would like but I’m sure the crowd would’ve wanted to REALLY get down. I know I did. This is not one of the best lounges/clubs in Hollywood. It’s pretty, but that’s all it really has going for it.

Came here for a friend of a friend’s birthday. This place is teeny tiny! One of the things that I found mildly annoying is that the only place to sit down required that you have bottle service. Fortunately, I was part of a group that had a reserved table, but I wondered if we didn’t were in the teeny space one could actually sit if they wanted to(although they did have a couple of hanging hammocks that would’ve been fun). The drinks were expensive — which is to be expected considering it’s The Standard on Sunset Boulevard. The music, which was more on the techno side, was fun at first, and then got stale to me. Also, because it’s on Sunset, you’re kind of forced using the valet, which is about $ 10 when validated. It’s not the first place I would think of to go out to, but it’s not terrible.

Like Hollywood, the Purple Lounge is really pretty, really expensive, and thinks too highly of itself. The lounge is beautiful — it feels sort of like you’re back in some 70s dance club with all the purple and lights and folks groovin’. But once it starts filling up around 11, you realize you’re actually in Hollywood, 2009. Almost all the tables are reservation/bottle service type deal, so there is nowhere to chill at this so-called lounge. The bartender was really nice and offered recommendations, but the drinks, of course, were expensive(12 for a cocktail). The DJ was wack(unless you love old school house). Not my idea of a great time per se. But these kinds of people would enjoy it: the out-of-towners, the girls with the 5-inch heels you can’t possibly dance in, and the frat boys who try ever-so-hard to mack on the aforementioned 5-inch heels girls. It’s all yours, dudes.

very hipster crowd/vibe. dj was EXCELLENT when i was there… he even threw in some old school freestyle, which i love(im from NJ and it was like i was home circa 1996). as expected in terms of drink prices. would definitely go again when im in weho.

Eh. This place is a little too small for me. I could literally sit at one corner and get a whole view of the place. Everyone in there seemed too cool for school too. I went on a saturday night, it wasn’t too packed we were able to find a little couch to sit on but eh, it was okay. The DJ played mostly trance and house music. The only thing I liked about it was that it was purple and had those cute swing chair things. Doubt i’ll come back here unless to grab a quick drink on my way out to another bar.

Last night I went to the Purple Lounge to watch a friends performance. It was called Drrrrrama. The venue is small — not enough room for an actual show. The sound system was pretty bad. The mics were off and so was the lighting. It was pretty stuff too. The drinks were pretty pricey, but then again, I would say $ 12-$ 14 average would justify as avery for its location. Parking is quite difficult. There are parking lots and would cost you $ 15 — $ 20 to park your car. Will I go back? Probably not unless of course I hear something«good» happening.

Finding or knowing about this place is like finding one of those underground Chinese gambling rings. Walk in the lobby and see nothing but a small meeting place on the right called the Cactus Lounge and an oddly placed diner on the left. No Purple Lounge in site. Ask the front desk and they say, «Walk through the diner all the way back on your right.» WTF. HAHAHA I couldn’t believe you had to walk through the diner to get to this totally different atmosphere. Greeted by a lovely door LADY this time(odd), checks ID and then a no hassle entrance. We came her for the IM-KING2 year anniversary party and it was PACKED! I cannot tell you how it is on a normal night because there was an event hosted, but it was poppin. Drinks are made strong, just tell them that’s what you want. Averagely priced for a chic lounge in West Hollywood, 10 for well 12 for top shelf vodka drinks. –1 star for a smaller venue than most other clubs/lounges. I do like the patio though. Valet is pretty much the only option and cost 8 bucks WITHVALIDATION! SOGETIT! Its 29 bucks without!

location: the standard, hollywood. i braved the sunset strip on a sunday evening [not nearly the feat i make it out to be… it’s quite timid on sundays, actually] to make it out to my good friend’s going away party. her venue of choice: the purple lounge. i was already annoyed at how hard this hotel tries to be different when i saw the asian girl on a lap top inside a display case behind the front counter. here we go. to get to the purple lounge which is tucked away in the back to the side, you have to walk thru the restaurant and totally disturb everyone dining… that sucked. you walk in to the lounge itself and you are immediately inundated by purple and pink neon which normally, i’m all about… but this was such an intense assault on my rods and cones that i don’t think i had a chance to enjoy it. when you couple the sights with the blaring tunes [badly mixed at that], it’s hard to imagine any sort of relaxation or lounging while in the purple lounge. as if those intrusions on the senses weren’t enough, try ordering a drink. sure, you can get the bartender’s attention with ease since the place wasn’t too overly crowded, which is nice, but as soon as you drop 10 – 12 bucks for a teeny tiny mostly tonic gin and tonic you will soon remember how miserable this place is. purple lounge lacks in charm and totally went against everything i think of when i think of the word lounge. sure, there was a ton of plush seating arrangements all over the place and some of those weird swings in the corner and a bar… i gave them an extra star for cool valet attendants who were polite and did not steal my quarters… and it was only 6 bucks with validation from the lounge. still, this place sux.
