This is a great shop in Hoboken. I’ve been coming here for years. Don’t let the name dissuade you, they do both men & women at a reasonable price. The place has a funky, old world charm to it, the prices are incredibly reasonable, the staff makes you feel like family, and they are all experienced professionals who will work with you to be sure you are satisfied. Supporting the local businesses is what Hoboken is all about.

I have been coming here for years! Always fit me in, remember my name, what I do and what I need in a hair cut! Most reasonable price in Hoboken as well! Paying more for a Washington Street Address is not going to get you the same feeling as you get at first Street Barber. Oh, and open on Sunday!

While you might think a barber shop is just for men, this one is not! Jesse has been coloring and cutting my hair for almost ten years. He does an amazing job at a reasonable price. I love the laid back ambiance of the shop. There’s always an interesting conversation going on in there.

While I stepped in because it looked like a classic barbershop, I was disappointed rather quickly. I’m not sure if they were rushing to ‘cut’ my hair as quickly as I was rushing to leave by the end. At the end, my hair was dripping wet(it was styled with, wait for it, water), my sideburns were not cleaned up(I went home and did them myself), and there was no lather shave I’ve come to expect in a barber shop. The gentleman who cut my hair was pleasant enough, but I came for a haircut not for chit chat. I will only ever return if I’m desperate. Supercuts would be better. $ 20, cash only.

Great no frills haircut in an easy to get to location. Yes please! Cash only, but reasonable at $ 20 for a regular cut. Importantly, they did a good job and were very nice. It’s always scary trying a new place out but after my last place changed ownership I decided to give these guys a go and I’m glad I did.

Was pleasantly surprised at the great fade I received in this small shop. Great personalities too.

I have been a patron and a fan of First Street Barber Shop for 7 years! I have had my hair cut by Nancy, Sandy, and now Jesse is my regular barber because my work hours recently changed. All of them are friendly, talented, incredibly fun and entertaining, and I have never been let down by a haircut in all 7 years! They cut my hair before my engagement, my wedding, my graduation from graduate school, and so many other occasions. You cannot beat their prices or the fun vibe that these great people cultivate. In a world where everything has become too commercialized, loud, and exlclusive, First Street Barber Shop stands alone with it’s welcoming, friendly, «never forget your name» mentality. They have never hesitated to help with a charitable donation to several causes which I have held fundraisers for. They even give my dog a treat when we walk by! If you want a great haircut, at a reasonable price, given by good people, then First Street is your place. They are a Hoboken staple! — Mike Callahan

I always have gotten good service with these guys, whoever it might be who cuts my hair, and I always leave with good hair cut. Only $ 20 too(cash only)! I would defiantly recommend these guys to my friends.

I got a haircut from the owner Nancy last week. She did a great job and was very friendly. The atmosphere is of an old school barber shop. Overall great place.

I had my worst haircut experience ever here last Sunday morning; I asked for a blade 4 back and side and a scissors trim for the rest; the entire haircut took 12 minutes and consisted of running the blade around the bottom of my head and trimming the very top — the side and back were just left undone. I asked when leaving if the side were uneven and was assured that they were«graduated» — when I got home and checked with two mirrors, I had a «step» running all the way around my head! I had to go to another(new) barber in the afternoon to get the second half of the haricut — I got this done in Buzz Cuts on Washington Street and it was much more satisfactory.

Don’t expect flat screen TVs here. And really, who cares about watching TV while you’re getting a haircut? I would say that it has an old school vibe to it, but it’s actually just an old place. All the barbers are good. They’re funny and there’s always some kind of wacky conversation going on. It’s that kind of place where everybody talks to everybody(which a lot of places are lacking, lately). I’ve had haircuts from most of the barbers. I’m pretty indifferent about my haircuts, but I’ve never had a complaint for any of the ones I’ve gotten here.

Jesse is the best! He works Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Prices are great, service is quick, haircut is even and lasts. Chris has been gone about 8 months. I can’t speak for his work, but I do know for certain he is no longer there.

I just had the worst cut ever! And it will be another week before I can even think of getting a remedial cut to save my dignity… Chris was the guy that took me, supposedly a pro, but he was anything but. My side was left uncut in a few places, which I had to constantly point out to him to fix, but the top was just totally ruined, in ridiculous tufts of different lengths making me look a fool. The worst part was he was rushing me the whole time and also this is more exp than my regular guy(who broke his arm in an accident, hence this unfortunate event). They seem to be nice people. and maybe Sandy does have some skill. but do yourself a favor… avoid Chris at all costs!
