Although we now have to wait another full year before we can enjoy this parade again, I wanted to give a shout-out to this great, local celebration of the 4th of July. I’ve always loved parades and this one is quite special. It may not be the most lavish but it is well-done and a local favorite and therein lies its charm. The beautiful town of Hingham has been hosting this parade since the 1800s and it’s an event not to miss even if you don’t live in these parts. Put this on your calendar for next year and enjoy the amazing floats, fantastic marching bands, the fun kazoo band and an overall terrific day of American good spirit. There is a road race in the morning if you’re so inclined and a band concert and amazing fireworks display over the harbor the night or two before. All these things are sure to give rise to a patriotic lump in the throat and misty eyes, even in the most cynical amongst us
