First off, Rika, our favorite server, is the BEST! Miyos is our favorite place to eat in Hilo. We went in for dinner tonight for the first time in a couple of months, first thing the wonderful hostess Jessica said was that she hadn’t seen is in months! It was so sweet. We got to sit in Rika’s section, she as well said she hadn’t seen us in so long and was happy to see us. She was outstanding and wonderful as always. And of course, the food was delicious Thank you girls so much for giving us a great date night!

Delicious. Delicious. Delicious. This place is a MUSTEAT, with endless delectable options to choose from. The traditional Japanese menu offers something for all dietary types and all of them are wonderful. The vegetarian planet is fantastic and I know many non-vegetarians that choose it. The Ahi-Don is out of this world! It’s the BEST! The miso soup, the hot tea, the free pickled veggies you get on arrival, all delicious! I’ve eaten here for many many years and have never been disappointed, it’s always wonderful, with one of the best places for service in Hilo. This place is an All Time Favorite.

The lady that helped us outside that was preparing us for our table to sit is horrible. She’s not good with customers. #badCustomerServiceSkills Our waiter was very nice and great with customer. Even though he forgot to give our utensils, the h2o was horrible tasting and forgot to give me a pen when he gave us our check

Took the family to Miyo’s the other night. We had a large party of 13, but luckily we had reservations so we didn’t have to wait with the large crowd waiting outside. This is one of the three places I have to stop at while in Hilo. The food here is great, the menu has a lot to offer, but best of all is this place is the best value for Japanese food I’ve found in Hawaii. My parents who live here in Hilo were pleasantly surprised at the price and size of their meals. They had just visited another local Japanese restaurant in town where the food is good, but the prices were quite higher. The only deterrent for my parents and many others from frequenting Miyo’s is the long wait if you don’t have reservations. I definitely recommend Miyo’s.

Love Miyo and love her little home style restaurant she’s created. My go to for Japanese comfort food when I’m home and feeling like a nice sit down. Their takeout bentos at $ 6.50 are my favorite on the island and especially when I’m on the go. It’s a pretty big menu so do come if you like Japanese home style food. If it’s your first try and you have a lax budget I’d suggest one of the combination or deluxe plates. They’re probably the most popular on the menu. You can spend between $ 14-$ 17 on these but mind you they are really huge bento boxes and perfectly portioned. The deluxe combinations come with your choice of three items PLUS fresh sashimi, a salad, miso soup and side of rice. My husband’s favorite. The Miyo’s house dressing is some of the best I’ve had. I just love their salad. Family style atmosphere. Random and mellow service(some servers are Japanese speaking FYI). Same tables and chairs from their old location, same open kitchen theme(put your hair up), same sticky greasy floors, your slippers will sing here. Best of all: Same great live music. This is an ideal spot to get together casually with family and friends. You can dress up too and won’t look/feel too out of place because it’s a cute spot for date nights. Byob. No corkage fee. Bring your own wine glasses if you’re picky about that. Sometimes they’ll give you tea cups which I think is cute. Oh, make a reservation for your dinner party for sure. Oishii!

Miyos get packed pretty fast so making reservations is highly recommended. The resturant was full so we had to wait awhile for our food to arrive. I ordered #C Tempura & Sesame Chicken. My Fav. Comes with salad, rice & miso soup. The meal was very good with assorted shrimp and veggie tempura. I ordered the brown rice this time, it was alil hard and could barely eat it with chopped sticks.

Music mixture, that’s what you’ll here from a live singer playing his guitar, while eating dinner. His music is wonderful, but it is a little loud when trying to converse at the table. So this was our experience: Arrive at 5:15pm, greeted quickly by the hostess. She noted they don’t open until 5:30, but would get our table together. She then asked for us to be seated on an outdoor table and she will come to get us. So, we wait patiently. 5:30 on the dot they open with now 4 parties waiting in the lone at the hostess. She asks first, «any reservations?» One party quickly raised their hands and she quickly took them inside to be seated. This was the only party with a reservation, so I understood that even being their first, they are seated before us. Then she comes back out and says, how many dining tonight to another party. She quickly seats them too. Now after going through 3 other non reservations that arrived WELLAFTER us, we walk up to see what’s going on. She looks at us and said, «yes? How many?» Uhhhh really lady??? Quickly we all responded ahhhh we were here first and you asked us to wait on the table! «Oh yeah, sorry» she said. Seriously, it’s not that big of a place or busy. You are in the wrong business if you messed that up. Anyway, moving on to dinner. We ordered the appetizers for dinner, never came, and yet still ended up on the bill too. Water was empty 90% of the meal. Again, this isn’t a huge place with only one wait staff, so no excuses. The sashimi is way to thickly cut. The food, only average. Best part of the meal was the green tea ice cream. Our server was SUPER nice but just didn’t make the cut for being on it. We all agreed it was a flop, and would rather venture somewhere like Osaka’s next time.

First of all, I want to say that Miyo’s is probably one of the ‘nicest’ restaurants in Hilo. When I say ‘nice’ I mean the ambiance and the interior. Other restaurants I have gone to in Hilo is pretty small, cheap tables and no interior accents anywhere. Its nice to see some ‘decent’ looking restaurant with a live musician playing music while you dine in. They can get busy on the weekends so its best that you make a reservation before going. Luckily, I was able to make a reservation for a group of 3 just 30 minutes prior to our arrival. My friend was recommended from her froend, a Seafood Yosenabe. It is a hot udon dish in a nabe(cast iron pot) with seafood. So two of my friends ordered that while I chose to order Donkatsu just because I am indecisive and my friend wanted Donkatsu. Honest speaking though, I dont recommend getting that Seafood Yosenabe. It has no taste. It is very bland and I find the broth really tasteless. It has some fish meat like salmon, pieces of squid, shrimp with tofu. For their price of $ 16.95, I dont think it was worth it. I mean it really lacks the flavor. My friends and I came to a conclusion that we wont be ordering this again. Donkatsu on the other hand, was very decent. It tasted like what my mom made me at home. Breading was great and the meat proportion was pretty good too. It came with a good amount of salad with two different dressing if I am not mistaken. I will probably get their Donkatsu over their Seafood Yosenabe any day. Service was mediocre at best. The server did come to our table and checked up on us pretty often but whenever I asked for a little things here and there, I didnt get it right away. I hate repeating myself but I had to ask 4 times to get straws. All in all, its a decent restaurant that sells many different Japanese dishes. Ambiance is great and theres always a lot of parking available. Just stay away from Seafood Yosenabe. Then I think you will be OK!

Wow! What a nice little find in Hilo! While trying to look for a new place to eat in Hilo today, I somehow ended up at a industrial complex(the same place where the Hawaiian Style Café is)…and found a place called Miyo’s. Miyo’s is a locally owned Japanese restaurant. What caught my eye was this large sign near the front entrance of the restaurant advertising a «$ 6.50 Bento»! Wot a deal! Dirt cheap I tell you!!! I walked into the restaurant & saw a stack of bentos… there were 3 types of bentos for $ 6.50…they were basically all the same with the exception of the type of fish they offered in the bentos. There was — 1. Ahi 2. Salmon 3. Saba. I ended up picking up a $ 6.50 bento with the Ahi. Oh, and by the way… they did have a $ 9.00 bento too… the only difference was that it was a little bit bigger with more food. What can I say about the bento? For $ 6.50(no tax) it was a dealage yo! The bento I chose came with — White rice with a sprinkle of furikake Tsukemono Sweet potato Ahi Egg Sesame chicken Takuan Fishcake For what you paid, and what you got… it was a good deal! Lots of free parking in the industrial complex which is shared by other businesses. This restaurant kinda has odd hours… they are opened from 11AM to 2PM. They close for a few hours, then they reopen at 5:30PM to 8:30PM. Now remember gang… Hilo is still a sleepy town, so most places close early with the exception of Ken’s Pancake House which is opened 24⁄7! Lol!

I recommend making reservations cause it gets hella packed! Seating can get a little tight, though there are tables outside. I love Japanese food. Miyo’s got it down. They almost never seem to fail. 4 stars!

Had the special salad with grilled Saba. Beautifully prepared with lettuce, cucumbers, shredded carrots, tomatoes, red peppers, sprouts, tofu, and a light soy sauce dressing on the side(the way I always like my dressing!) without me even asking to have it that way. The fish was cooked perfectly. Top notch. I deducted one star because the floor was so sticky my flip flops kept sticking to it. Still, the food was great and I’d definitely visit again.
