Daniel Boone Shell Service Center

Good enough for gas, it’s right off the highway and there is a Wendy’s next door. In, out, food, back on the road!

You need some gas in Hillsborough? You want to watch a dude sell newspapers at a nearby intersection? Come to Daniel Boone Shell Service Center in Hillsoborough, the town where, according to Wikipedia, Daniel Boone stopped going to church!
For realz, this gas station is right off the interstate, is easy to get into and out of. The prices were kinda high, but that may have been the time of year.

I stopped in here to pick up a quart of oil to tide me over on a long car trip, being overdue for an oil change when I arrived home.
The service center is convenient to the interstate, clean and organised, and the guys working there are friendly and helpful.
I can’t vouch for their actual service prices, but the pricing on the various auto-​related goods inside are all average.
The «draw» of stopping here vs. any other service center on a road trip is the giant statue of Daniel Boone in the middle of the complex. There are several other stores, including a General Store-​type shop that’s full of fun random touristy items as well as the sundries you’d expect, but nothing particularly entertaining and certainly nothing educational. In fact, the shopping center seems to have been named for the statue moreso than the actual historical figure, and that’s fine.
Stop in on a road trip and it could be a fun photo-​op, a neat little reminder of passing through a small Southern town. And if your car happens to be in need of maintenance or air in the tires, you’ll be back on the road in good condition thanks to DB Shell Service Center.
