Went here for my birthday with Family(party of) service was slow, the waitress was not very helpful, could not answer basic questions about serving size and price and looked very flustered and overwhelmed despite it not being exceedingly busy. The menu is big however, it is very misleading that the sushi combo options are chefs choice, nowhere is it stated on the menu that it’s chefs choice . The sushi is expensive and when our order finally arrived it was very skimpy and nothing spectacular. Our bill was $ 130 and sadly I came home still hungry and ate my sons $ 5 hot n ready pizza pizza from Liytle Caesars. Overall, disappointed and will not return. Better off at sushi land or if you have time drive out to Saburros in Sellwood.

Dragging the whole family down for some sushi. Love this place, amazing for a strip mall Resturant.

The sushi shines here. Went here for years before it expanded. Had a weird lunchtime experience with gruff service about 2 years ago but decided to come back to try it again because remembered how much I loved some of their rolls. Fish is good, always fresh. New décor and ambiance since the expansion is nice. Was a relaxing place for lunch and my favorite state rolls were still good. Quality of the fish was what I expect: served at a good temperature, good texture, and good size roll for the price. Sushi is probably the best thing to order here. Hot dishes will not be japanese-authentic but if the fish is fresh and restaurant feels clean and service pleasant we are happy indeed. The size and choices for the bento boxes is really fun, just how I remember.

A decent bento lunch choice if you are in the area and have a craving for Japanese food. The service was good and the atmosphere nice, the tea was also to my liking aka they didn’t cheap out and hence served a decent sencha. The food was just ok though, nothing bad but not great either. I go again when out in the area so again, nothing is bad here, just not quite worthy of a 4th star, 3.5 would be better.

This place is a joke i order oyako don and it comes out as a soup. I order chicken karage it comes out as teriyaki chicken. I order a roll and its the same quality as fred meyers. If you give this place 5 stars you have no concept of Japanese cuisine and obviously never been to japan. Its not even owned by Japanese restauranteurs. Im not harsh i dont anticipate every place i go to be «authentic» but dang can u even get chicken karage its just fried chicken! Save urself the stomach and headache dont come

Came for dinner to an empty restaurant(should’ve taken that as a sign.) We ordered oyakodon, chicken karaage, and an Arizona roll. The Arizona roll was decent, but the oyakodon and karaage were truly unacceptable. The oyakodon was swimming in broth; it seemed as if we ordered chicken soup and rice. What really shocked us though was the karaage – which is supposed to be deep fried! Never in a million years would I imagine ordering karaage and receiving something that looks like damn chicken pieces stir fried in teriyaki sauce. I asked the server if this was karaage and she both looked and spoke to me as if I didn’t know what the hell it was supposed to be like.

It’s a bit spendy for Hillsboro. The sushi(Oregon rolls) that we ordered were delicious. Between two hungry girls this was quickly annihilated in under two minutes. The second dish we ordered was the Dynamite appetizer. It’s a clam shell stuffed with chopped seafood and mushroom(?) in a cream sauce. I tried a bite and gave it up, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Not sure how Japanese it was – but my American friend loved it. For me, too sweet and mysterious, I could only think about the hidden calories and mystery seafood laden inside! Stick to the sushi & try the Sake flight. The staff and ambience was GREAT which led me to give this place 4 stars instead of 3. Very clean, inviting, and attentive to detail. Our server came by 4 times to refill my cup! Thankfully, because we were so parched from canvassing the neighborhood in 95 degree weather!

Kind of blah… We didn’t even eat all the spicy salmon roll and the scallop tataki was gross at best.

Coming back every time I’m in town! First time visitor. Life long fan. State rolls are not only a great idea, but great tasting! Owners are friendly and attentive. Everyone gets a welcome and a «come back and see us» the atmosphere is perfect. Best sushi I have had in a long time, and the fact that it is in a strip mall Setting should not deter you! You won’t feel like that once your through the door. Enjoy!

Spendy but worth it. Great sushi, fresh quality ingredients prepared by a qualified sushi chef. One waitress is good, the other tries to give you what she wants so make sure she orders for you what you have ordered. Other food items are good too but sushi is their sweet spot, no conveyor belt sushi in this place. Oh, wait… the cucumber salad is the best I have eaten anywhere! ! ! Restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. You wouldn’t think it from the outside. Bring your full wallet, it tends to add up and there is no happy hour sushi in this place. Too bad, a happy hour would make it so you could visit more often.

It had been a long time since I’d eaten here. I saw they had expanded and every time I felt like sushi, I wasn’t close enough to get here. Last night though, the kids felt like sushi and so I took them here. The interior has changed — more spacious, a few paper booths that lend to a little more privacy. The place is clean and the service is very friendly. We ordered the Texas roll, the Sunshine roll and the Caterpillar roll; all of which were excellent! The seaweed salad is one of the best I’ve ever eaten, mixed with cucumber and the light dressing. The Sunshine roll comes topped with mango, which gave it a refreshing taste to the back of your throat. Although they were full, dessert just had to be ordered… banana tempura with vanilla ice cream and chocolate mousse cake, both of which were scarfed down without wasting an extra breath.

Sushi & Maki another nice sushi joint near my workplace. The specialty of this place is that they have sushi named after the US states. It was fun looking through the menu to see how they came up with a sushi and associated that with a state. Maybe its just random idk. I ordered the Vegas(why not). It was fried and tasty but I didn’t taste the fish just the fried tempura. I also ordered the spicy tuna as well but that didn’t impress me much. Overall a nice lunch place. i will probably update my review after trying the bento box next time.

I loved this place because it goes fish quality first on what it tries to do. There was limited sauces on my roll, making the fish quality and flavor come out. The Kentucky Roll I ordered was a delight because I could actually taste the fish more than I have experienced at other sushi venues. The Nigiri Sushi I had was also top quality. I enjoyed everything here including the rather traditional Japanese ambiance. Service here is moderately slow, but you should come here to enjoy not rush.

Nice looking restaurant on the inside. Don’t let looks fool you… First off I hate writing negative restaurant reviews. That being said this one HAS to be done. You’re food is horrible and you should feel horrible for serving it! I got mine to-go so I didn’t see the product until my starving eyes opened the containers. The chicken donburi isn’t donburi! What I received was boiled no flavored chicken cooked in a mess of egg. No flavor whatsoever and mushy rice underneath. $ 10.95 and it went straight in the garbage. I’m not sure who in their right mind would eat that EVER but I’m sure this dish wouldn’t even be allowed to be served in prison or a soup kitchen it’s one of the worst things I’ve ever put in my mouth. The sushi also had no flavor. I’m trying to figure out how you can magically make interesting foods soooo bland? I mean it has to be a talent to make siracha bland? The spicy tuna roll which I asked for extra spicy was disgusting. The tuna was in cubes not shredded which was strange because none of the sauce really mixed in with the tuna at that point. The California rolls my kids usually can’t fit enough in their mouth at one time didn’t even want to touch these puppies. Again so bland and the sushi rice had absolutely no flavor. The flavor that makes u want to keep eating sushi until you explode was missing. So much food went to waste. The gyoza were plain. Nothing delicious or special about them but they were probably the only thing worth eating out of the whole $ 70 pick up order. I will never eat here again. Not to mention on top of everything the girl on the phone was super rude when I initially ordered which should have been a sign right there. So disgusting food and rude service. Good luck.

Check Your Bill! Friday night at Sushi & Maki. Crazy busy. After we arrived, two family parties arrived with 10+ people in them, so our server was busy, busy, busy! This review is NOT about the food, which, by the way, lacked the artistic finesse I expected from a sushi place, or the service we received. It is about dishonesty. When paying at the register, our server ran my card, gave it back to me, and left. I signed the register slip, and took the copy with me. In my rush to leave I forgot to add a tip, and add up the total bill, so the signature was the only thing I added to the slip. It wasn’t until I left Sushi & Maki and was almost home that I remembered in my haste to get out of the restaurant, that I had forgotten to add the tip, and total up my bill. The next day I checked my bank account to see if the debit went through. It went through with $ 2 added as a tip! I never added a tip! I forgot to add a tip, and yes, I am a tipper. Someone at Sushi & Maki must have written it in. This is fraud! And they have Christian signs and symbols on the walls! Someone at Sushi & Maki is a thief!!!. Shame on you!!!

The sushi here is good, but it is by no means amazing. I’ve been here a few times now for dinner, and I’ve always had really good service. That being said, it is always surprisingly empty. I’m guessing that the majority of the business they get is for lunch due to their location. They also seem to get a pretty sizable number of takeout orders. Sushi & Maki’s sushi gimmick is that their specialty rolls are all named after U.S. states. My favorite that I have tried is the Florida roll — tuna, yellowtail, lemon, crab, and green onion. I’ve also tried their specialty Dynamite(?) Roll, which comes out in foil with the plate on fire. The fire melts the mozzarella cheese on top; it was fun as an experience, but the roll didn’t actually taste spectacular. Most recently I had their dinner bento box. They allow you to pick 3 separate entrees, and it ends up being a TON of food. I had the bento with a spicy hamachi roll, fried gyoza, and tempura(2 shrimps and some vegetables), and that also came with miso soup, a cucumber salad, rice, and a small block of marinated tofu. I would definitely recommend this if you have a big appetite. This place is in the local dinner rotation — they have a lot of sushi options, but their menu is pretty extensive, and there are a lot of other things to eat as well. Next time I come, I think I’d like to try their udon soup or ramen.

This place is good, not quite great. I noticed it on my way back to my hotel and picked up some sushi to take out. The fish-to-riceball ratio is great; but the fish somehow didn’t seem quite as fresh as it should. I liked the cucumber salad. Miso soup i’m not going to evaluate since it does not travel well(in takeout). i have to say the sushi dinner ‘combo’(6 or 8 nigiri and a HUGE maki) — was a BIG serving of sushi. I thought the pricing seemed very fair; not ‘pricey’ at all, for decent sushi.

We definitely would go again– Nice little Japanese restaurant in Hillsboro adjacent from the Hillsboro Airport. The staff is very friendly — the sushi is extraordinarily fresh — and the preparation is quick. It’s much larger on the inside then appears on the outside. They have a nice big meeting room in the back. My guess is that this place frequents a lot of local Intel traffic. Prices are fair I think the three of us sushi lunch including soup and salad with about 45 bucks. Will definitely come back:)
