My husband and I took a trip sans-teenagers to Highlands and stopped by this charming, little wine shop to pick up a bottle of wine. As we walked to the front door, three patrons were sitting on the front porch chatting, laughing, and having wine as if they were on their own front porch. We went in and were overwhelmed by the selection. Yes, we like wine, but we honestly don’t know much about it and this place sells everything from the pedestrian to the reserve. We were greeted by someone who offered help, but he gave us room until it was obvious that we were clueless. Once we allowed, he asked what we like and what we were having for dinner. He actually talked us into a less expensive wine so that it paired well with dinner. It was perfect! The next night as we were walking down Main Street, we passed the same guy on the street and he asked us how we liked the wine… just like that — as if we were regulars! Good customer service is wonderful; but great customer service is what makes you a regular and merits stopping in for a visit and a glass of wine on the front porch.
