As I had expected, the Taste of HP was mainly a social event. We went to check it out on Friday night, and the BF ran into no less than 10 people he knew, and everyone seemed to be doing the«oh, hi, so good to see you!!!» thing. The taste itself was on the small stretch of Central between 1st and 2nd. I think that the«art fair» part of the taste stretched south on 1st street, but it was already dark so we didn’t see it. There were some really cool very large art pieces(metal & wood) on central across from the food booths, really neat to admire. The street itself was crowded and hot, but it was hot outside. I liked that the food vendors took cash instead of a ticket system. We didn’t end up eating at the taste because it was so crowded, but the spread of different restaurants was great. Everything from pizza to tamales to sushi. Maybe next year we’ll go in the daytime to see the art.

This year was my first at the Taste of Chicago, and I fell in love with tasting things! Unfortunately, the Taste of Highland Park didn’t have a whole lot in the way of vegetarian options this year… The vegetable panini from Café Central was wonderful, and Piero’s Pizza(as well as New York Slices) came through with cheese pizza tastes. But Tamales ran out of pumpkin tamales, which was pretty sad for two veggies roaming Central Ave surrounded by corned beef sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs. The usual entrée was about $ 5, and a side dish ran about $ 3. Live music and the surrounding Port Clinton art festival made the event!
