I’m writing this review pretty late… considering I just found out that this AYCE has just been closed down. Yikes! I ate here probably five to six months back. I remember going here with my friends, C* and B*, after a long day. We were their only customers on a weekday. That in itself should have foreshadowed their imminent fate. Haha Well, C* and I shared a three roll combo consisting of eel, tuna avocado, and spicy salmon. B* ordered her own three roll combo comprising of spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and shrimp tempura. We decided to add in a chicken tonkatsu(what the hell, right?) Overall, we didn’t stick to our own plates. All of us shared our six rolls and the food was pretty good! It was your usual sushi fare. FYI: we did not order from their AYCE menu. I didn’t have any qualms about the food. The tonkatsu came out piping hot and the chicken was still very moist and tender inside the breading. The vegetables were treated as garnish and were not properly cooked as I thought. Service was unmemorable. The tab was reasonable, I have to say. There was also plenty of parking in the back. Nubon is a place you might want to go on a whim but definitely not a place you would want to go out of your way for.

I called the number and it said to try again and my call wouldn’t go through. I went to the restaurant and they were closed!!! What a disappointment.

I was in the area for work and had a little time to kill so I stopped in here which was a stone’s throw away from the client I was waiting on. I was not feeling very well, and really wanted some ramen. I really wanted some GOOD ramen. I was disappointed to find that they did not carry ramen, but settled for some soba noodle soup(veggie and shrimp tempura.) When the soup arrived, there were no veggies inside and the broth seemed very light. I figured I would give it a chance, and was immediately let down the moment the chopsticks hit my palate. The broth was indeed very bland and tasted incredibly watered down, the noodles, well were just noodles — you can’t really mess that up. The tempura veggies and shrimp were decent, but too scarce to make up for the lack of proper seasoning and veggies in the soup, unfortunately. This place offers an «all you can eat»(AYCE) sushi, so maybe that is their one-trick pony. I wouldn’t know, and I won’t find out as I will not be revisiting. Two stars for the service. The staff was actually quite friendly and did not mind that I held a 6 – 7 minute business convo just inside the door on my phone prior to asking to be sat.

I highly recommend the nigiri and sashimi. The raw fish tastes very fresh. Service is fast and the sushi is amazing. Signage is not very legible from the street so it is easy to drive right by without seeing it. I recommend getting here early because the parking spots can be tight in the back if arriving later in the evening.

I was hesitant after reading the reviews and skeptical when I walked in and there were 2 tables occupied. I had 3 plates of sushi and rolls and it was all good. I paid about $ 24 with drink and tax. This easily would’ve been a $ 50 dinner elsewhere. I would eat here again for sure.

I wish Nubon didn’t look so shady from the outside because I would have come here a lot earlier. It is definitely not the best sushi I have ever had, but it is still a lot better than some other places I have been to and it fulfills my sushi cravings. There are a bunch of other items from the menu that you can order like seaweed salad, seafood pancakes, salmon teriyaki, udon, etc. The portions are small, but it is all you can eat so you can keep ordering more if you feel that you can. C’mon now. 20 dollars for all you can eat sushi? It’s a pretty amazing deal. I got two rolls, 2 pieces of shrimp sushi, 2 bowls of udon and I felt good that I got my moneys worth. Also there is a pretty decently sized parking lot in the back, which also makes it a lot easier because I was worried about how I would park on the street or in the neighborhood.

I’ve eaten — no scratch that — gorged at this place twice in the past two months. Both for friend’s birthday parties. Originally, we were going to the battle-tested Sushi Village in Bayside — we’ve been there over a dozen times. But, Sushi Village didn’t answer the phone for an entire Thursday and we were worried they were closed down for a health inspection. Turns out Sushi Village is healthy and open but we ended up here in Nubon. It’s Sushi Village’s loss because this place is awesome. It’s a bit further drive for us from Queens on the LIE but pretty easy when traffic is light. Just exit on 41S and make a right on the 2nd light. The restaurant is on your right after about half a mile. So compared to Sushi Village, Parking is easy in Nubon’s lot. There’s no wait for a table. The staff is better able to serve you as they don’t have as many tables to tend to. The sushi is significantly better because they’re not banging it out as if they’re on a factory assembly line with a timer going off every time a chef went over a minute for a roll. The cooked foods are decent and on par with Sushi Village. The price is also less. So, this is our new AYCE joint. Very happy with it and will continue to partake.

Great place, great food. I have eaten in many sushi restaurants across the country and this is one of the best restaurants, especially considering that this is an «all you can eat» place. They are not pricey, the fish is fresh, the service is great, the atmosphere and the design of the place is very relaxing. I never leave comments on Unilocal, but I felt that this place deserved to be spoken for.

From owner to staffs are all Chinese, they can’t make real sushi, and that’s the fact we unfortunately experienced last week, staffs were actually rude, when we showed interest for their $ 19.99 ‘all you can eat’ menu, the staff kept advising us, even before we order anything, that order what you can eat, if you can’t eat, don’t order too much ok? …blah blah … Stuff like that, and repeated more than 3 times. The food? It was eatable, not tasty at all… If you want eat real sushi, go to manhattan or find some other decent one around, this little Chinese operated Japanese food knock off place are definitely a place to avoid. Period.

I should have known to walk out the second I entered this sushi place. It was a Sunday night, and was completely empty. I had previously heard that this place had very good sushi, before they reopened with their all you can eat menu. I thought I would give it a shot. 12 hours later I’m vomiting, and have the worst diarrhea of my life. Maybe they downgraded vendors to cut costs and establish an all you can eat menu. Maybe business was so bad, they weren’t moving sushi, and it was sitting there going bad. I really don’t care, and I know I will NEVER eat here again.

I had reviewed Nubon a year back when the dining format was very different. While I enjoyed the quiet lounge atmosphere, I felt a «re-review» was in order since Nubon has now transformed into an menu driven all-you-can-eat venue. Gone is the bar area. The ala carte menu is still available but almost everyone opts for eating all they can. Having frequented and enjoyed Sushi-Village all-you-can-eat close by in Hicksville, I was very eager to see how things had changed over at Nubon. Nubon has taken what I liked before and made it better. It seems they also learned from the popularity over at «village». The quality and presentation of offerings is superb, especially the teriyaki salmon and grilled eggplant. A much larger variety than other venues. No buffet here, just attentive waiters serving individually prepared plates. Nubon’s dining room is modern and well appointed, the staff, friendly as ever and the selection broad. I’m surprised at the attention to detail paid to dishes with even the smallest pieces basted in sauces, laid with garnish, etc. Nubon is back in a new format which seems to agree with people. This last week as I entered, I thought I might need to wait in line for a table! It’s gratifying to see owners/managers flexible enough to listen to diners wants and needs. A nice place before, but a winning combo now that made me and my friends regulars. Advice: bring your biggest appetite!

My family and friends love this place. Too bad on the past reviews. Not much business, hope they can stay open. For those who had a bad experience, give them another try.

First time eating there they had the all you can eat promo… the fresh salmon salad was gooooooood. Too bad the promo is over :( I’ve revisited there three time over the past 2 months, I think their menu has gotten better. Their sushi are very fresh, the waiters are friendly and helpful… The uni and the scallop were soooo good. Yea… Doesn’t seem like they have enough business. It must be the previous bad reviews from their grand opening… I have introduced few of my friends and coworkers to this place and they all enjoyed the food.

I’m confused by the other reviews of this place and am wondering if people aren’t leaving a review for the wrong restaurant.(Or are completely over dramatic– formaldehyde?!) This place clearly has a very visible sushi bar and I have never seen anything there advertising all-you-can-eat and I have been there multiple times. I love sushi, managed a high-end sushi restaurant for years, have eaten at some of the best sushi restaurants in the world(Gari in NYC. YUM!) and give this place my full endorsement. They have real sushi here, not just generic strip-mall type stuff. I have tried many things here, and have never had anything be less than great. It’s one of the better places in LI, like Kotobuki. *edited to add they have recently switched to AYCE and if you know me at all, you know how I feel about AYCE sushi(Huge don’t! Spend the money on good sushi your intestines will thank you later)

Mom and I ate here on March 30, 2012 for the first time. We came at 1pm and it was only us and another table. Their sushi is fresh and I was so happy about my sushi. A bit pricey though, but you get what you paid for. We also ordered the tempura, it was OK because the batter of the shrimp was not cooked well, it tastes like a soggy batter and the dipping sauce for the tempura was lacking in flavor. Wish they cooked the tempura shrimp more, the batter taste raw and add more flavor to the dipping sauce. It was expensive 6 pieces of tempura costs $ 16. Will be back but will stick to the sushi, unless they change the way they cook the tempura

I came here with my wife and daughter about 2 mths ago. The staff were very nice but I must warn you, this is bar none the worst sushi I have ever tasted and must be avoided. There is no way this fish is fresh, rather it is frozen in something that has the aftertaste of what I would imagine formaldehyde to taste like. I left a large amount of sushi on my plate and asked for a doggy bag and dumped it in the trash outside. As I said earlier, the staff was very friendly and I didn’t feel the need to insult them to their face. We love sushi but this is an insult to sushi lovers. I should have realized when I noticed that the chefs were in a kitchen in the back. Aside from Nisen which is delicious I’ve never encountered a hidden sushi chef. Go to Sawa, Nisen, Kohaku, Kado, etc. I’m sorry to be so harsh but this place must be avoided.

I rarely post negative reviews. I usually post reviews when I like the restaurant I agree with Angela B. I was at Nubon on Saturday with another couple. I ordered 2 rolls that were primarily rice with very little fish. They reminded me of the rolls you buy in the supermarket, that are mass produced. I also ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer and it consisted of just 3 shrimp. In other restaurants it comes with veggies also. I was not impressed. The only positive of the meal was the grapefruit salad. There are much better Japanese restaurants in the area and serving skimpy rolls is not the way to attract return customers.

It’s been noticed that some of the positive reviews written by non-native English writers were recently removed and replaced with one positive FOUR star review. Hmm…

A new born on 106⁄107 in Hicksville near the Ikea, just like its name ‘NuBon’. The food is freshly made and nicely presented. Very clean place which is important for a place serve raw fish. Love the Fire place decoration and Full Bar! On Christmas Eve, We ordered a love boat(combination of sashimi and sushi), a Surf Turf roll with kobe beef & Lobster, kids ordered Chicken Teriyaki(how tender and tasty that chicken is!) and Udon noodle soup. Tried Uni Fried rice, surprisingly good! I love it! Hot Wings are very crispy and tasty, can be more spicy though. Suggest the restaurant to serve some spicy dip on the side will make me more happy. If you’re a wing lover like me, you’ve got to try it! Service is excellent and friendly. I will definitely return again with friends to try some other items on the menu. Just saw the other reviews here… I actually don’t mind about not seeing the sushi bar since I never sit by the sushi bar anyway, I don’t need to see ppl cutting fish in front of me as long as the the finish product is fresh and nicely plated. The menu is beautiful but little bit complicated at first sight. but it’s only buy personal preference.

I was so excited to go there for dinner since I happened to drop by on their grand opening to take a look at the menu — and boy, did that menu look awesome(in terms of creativity and variety of sushi, sashimi, and other dinner options)… and the owners were super friendly and welcoming. But then, when hubby and I actually went there for dinner a couple of days later, the excitement faded over the course of waiting for our food ** 1 hour and 10 minutes ** as THEONLYCUSTOMERS in the restaurant! Yes, it took that long to get our sushi! What did they do — go to the Long Island Sound and catch the fish?! The waiter was very nice and apologized a few times throughout the wait, refilled our green tea probably a good 10 times, and gave us edemame on the house. But the owner or manager of the restaurant didn’t seem to care: he was entertaining his buddies at the bar with drinks. I would expect an owner to actually stay on top of what’s going on and step up in situations like that… come on, we were the only people, how can you not notice! When we finally got the sushi, I do admit that it was beautifully put together. The quality was ok and fresh, nothing to complain about but nothing to jump and and down in my chair about either… A big minus is the lack of a sushi bar in this sushi restaurant. Weird, even hibachi places that have sushi on the menu have an actual sushi bar — and here you have a sushi restaurant without it? That’s a first lol… They prepare the sushi back in the kitchen. Hm, makes you wonder if it’s all just frozen stuff that they defrost for each order? Other than that the restaurant is beautifully designed & decorated — love the tiled wall with the fireplace and the 3D wooden accent wall. But not worth for me to bother giving these guys another try. I’ll stick to my favorite places, such as Taka and Shiro — or even Ruby’s and Kado.
