I love it! sooooo wonderfully Mexican. I’ve had many tacos, de maize and they’re soo good. It’s hard to find good Mexican food so far from Mexico, so, I’ll be coming back here during my stay in Hawaii.

Steak Ranchero Burrito wet with green sauce, YUMMY! They do take a long time, but if you are not in a hurry, I would definitely suggest trying this place out.

Extremely slow service for café style food. 50 minutes from order to table. A table of 6 was served 15 minutes before me and another couple and ordered 10 minutes after we did. The cashier initially claimed it was dependant on what a person orders. After I had finally received my food and finished eating she admitted it was because they did not have the proper tortillas ready. A simple enchilada plate! The food is not worth waiting for regardless of their excuses. I do not recommend this eatery.

After reading the reviews, we were worried but decided to roll the dice. Boy are we happy we did. Got here at 4:30, ordered and had our food at our table in 10 minutes. My Adovada was tender and tasty and his Chimichanga was crisp and moist and delicious with no apparent oil residue. Our experience — a well deserved five stars.

Worst service ever… and it takes a LOT for me to write a bad review. It took over a half hour to get chips and salsa, and then another 40 min to get our food. The food was bland and not worth the wait. The server was very nice, it seemed like the one cook that was back there was the issue. We were one of the two tables occupied in the restaurant, so the service was not due to them being busy.

The only way this place gets a 5 star review is if the patron is so cross-eyed drunk from a day-long Puka binge that they didnt realize it took 45 minutes to get their quesidilla and they attributed the subsequent 6 hour diarrhea marathon to the alcohol instead of the food. I’ve lived within 1mile of this place for 4 years and have played literally hundreds of rounds at the neighboring par 3 golf course. Due to convenience and the fact that I love Mexican food, I gave La Familia exactly 6 chances hoping that by some miraculous chance of culinary over-achievement by the proprietors I would eventually get a decent meal. They failed every time. The counter service and the cook are insanely slow. Fortunately on this final attempt I grew tired of waiting at the 55 minute mark for my salsa verde and quesadilla and asked for a refund. I will say that the lady returned my money faster than they took it. Props to her for realizing her own lack of cash register prowess so she gave me cash instead of processing a credit return. As much as I would have loved to have a decent restaurant down the street from me the past 49 months, La Familia proved to be nothing but disappointing.

Food is authentic and made from scratch daily. It might take longer than some places, but it’s because it’s made fresh! This place is family run. The lovely lady that serves you also preps a lot of the food! She is super nice.

Love this place! Great food, large dining room, nice view, and family friendly. We have a large family, and we fit in here with no problem. It satisfies our Mexican food craving, and the kids stay occupied watching the Disney channel that they always play. This is a nice hidden gem on Hickam!

Consistently poor service. Food is okay, but they tend to run out of important ingredients as early as 1130. We made reservations and Pre-orders for an office lunch. They were completely unprepared for us and ran out things like BEEF. How are you running out of beef for a pre-ordered, pre-paid meal?! They weren’t even busy. A lot of us that had ordered things a certain way(red sauce instead of green sauce, on option on their menu) got the opposite of what we ordered. Just a very poorly organized place. Frustrating and disappointing. Will not go here again.

What a pleasant surprise. We were not expecting much but the food was actually pretty darn good. It’s a small little Mexican joint sitting at the par 3 golf course on base, but it may be the best Mexican food that we have had since being stuck in San Antonio. Get your food delivered to the bar next door to have a margarita to go with it.(hint hint) Try it, you may become a fan too.

DISAPPOINTING at best! «The Family» restaurant was less than expected as we walked in to find the television in the restaurant tuned to an inappropriate show for children. Additionally, to wait 45 minutes for our food was unacceptable. I would have been better off going down the street to Subway.

We just finished playing golf and was looking for a snack. A hot dog seems quick and easy. There were 3 people in here. Waited almost 30 minutes for a simple hot dog. We just waited and waited. I was about to ask for a refund. Slow service.

The interior is minimalist, the food counter looks like they pulled it out of a food truck. We ordered our food, two burritos and an order of chips, salsa, and guacamole, the lady then asked us what size, showed us a bunch of different cups, like somehow a standard size of salsa was out of the question, it was like some weird game of guess how much salsa I need. Same thing with the guacamole, then we ordered the large salsa after she showed us a little tub size receptacle. When we got the salsa it was a massive order in a bowl with out enough chips to eat it all, guacamole was incredibly small, all that for 9 bucks. Thanks, I was really hoping you could give me disproportionate food portions and over charge me for a plate full of chips… Ridiculous ass place to eat,

Ate here today for lunch. I ordered a taco salad with chicken. It was okay. The lunch was free because I won the bet… my team won the super bowl, but the prices seemed to be a little high for the quality. I’ve eaten here before and wasn’t really impressed. I’d go here again if my team wins the super bowl. :-)

Located next to the Par 3 golf course across from the Enlisted Club &JR Rockers. I’ve so far had two experiences here. One was mediocre while the other was subpar. My first time here, I was alone eating lunch after a trip of shopping at the exchange/commissary. Being that it was a weekend and I was the only one there, the lady working was really nice. I asked for extra glasses of water which she gave me although she do not usually allow it. The food was on par with food here on the islands, what seems to be canned sauce on premade enchiladas. The second time I came at lunch during the workweek. We were at the front of a line with 4 or 5 parties behind us. They seemed to not be ready for the crowd coming in with utensils not stocked, a cold kitchen, and no pen to be found when signing receipts. This would not normally warrant a bad review from me. However, the experience fell downhill from here. I had ordered chicken enchiladas, as I always do. Bad on me for not double checking the receipt. After 35 minutes of waiting, cheese enchiladas came out. Sure enough, that was what was put on the receipt! I had also asked for no onions on top, but they were there. We also ordered chips and salsa for our table, but they came out after our meal. I don’t believe chips and salsa take a lot of time to prepare, so I couldn’t understsand this. Even the cheese enchiladas tasted like those from Just tacos, straight out of a freezer box. I can be patient as long as the order comes in right. For such a large place, it seems like the staff cannot keep up with more than a couple parties at a time.

Deliberating between 2 and 3 stars, I finally decided on «AOK» because I didn’t have any problems here. The location is convenient for those on Hickam, especially when you’re headed to a lunch meeting on Mondays only to find that JR Rockers is closed. So that tells you that I didn’t necessarily make this establishment my choice for lunch, but I was glad to have the chance to try it out. It is a quaint little place with maybe a dozen or so tables inside. At noon there were already half of the tables full. The menu board is large and they have a few specials. I ordered the chicken chimichanga with a side of salsa verde. The plate comes with beans and rice also. Overall service, ease of ordering, promptness of food being prepared and served hot is all good. The beans and rice seemed ho-hum, the verde was tasty and the red sauce they used on/in the chimi had a good heat to it. It wasn’t overly greasy and was filled with meat. So no complaints. I just wasn’t as impressed with the flavors as much as I love some other Mexican restaurants, but if someone was looking to get their fix, quick and convenient I wouldn’t turn them away from this establishment.

I agree with some of the other reviews, but if you’re on Hickam and want something other than the AAFES offerings, the 10-minute-$ 10 menu did actually come out in 10 minutes. I went with the chimichanga, fried and crisp, but nothing to write home about.

I’m sad to see low ratings on La Familia. I have come here a couple of times with my family and have enjoyed eating in the restaurant. There are usually several families when I come for dinner… I’ve only stopped by once to pick up lunch. I saw the 10-minute lunch special but ordered items that weren’t listed… and it took a good 30 minutes. By the time I got back to my office the food wasn’t as great as it would have been if I had eaten it at the restaurant. The food though I find is usually full of flavor. We always order the chips and salsa… both seem to be made there fresh. I enjoy the barbacoa soft taco, tamales and chile relleno combo plate. The service is usually pretty friendly and the older woman seems to remember me every time I come whether it’s with my family or alone. There was a younger lady the last time I went who is also very nice. If I had one complaint, it would be the wait time. I seem to wait about 30 minutes for my food on average. The last time I went, we waited nearly 50 minutes because they were short staffed and had to make a large amount of tortillas from scratch according to the younger woman. She was nice enough to offer us a free soda and constantly apologized for the wait. I’m pretty patient if I know the food will be good :) The server recommended I call in my order if I want it to be ready right away. I may just try that the next time I come for dinner :) For those of you who enjoy menudo, I heard they serve it on Sundays. I can’t say how it taste, as I don’t eat it :)

I have been here once and thought it was so-so… but it took 40 minutes to get my food because everyone else coming in owas ordering the«10 minutes gaurentee» meals… no fault on them but ridiculous at the same time for the wait time. The second time I was having lunch with three friends, one of who suggested it, she had never been there. I have bene here already so I just said okay. We all ordered. One girl asked for no beans on her plate and the manager said he couldnt do that. Um. how about you DONT put them on the plate… its that easy… Anyhow, you could tell he was against it… but why? The girl doesnt eat beans, save them for someone else. Then the third girl asked for the same and he again said he couldnt do it but then she started saying in spanish to him something along the lines of «yes you can because you just said you would do it for her». Eventually their orderes were figured out, but this was a 5minute long ordeal. I got my order and it was beef, rice, chkn, red chile sauce, potato burrito. Um. the meat looked quite questionable. There was mostly rice any way and hardly any sauce. It was really dry. I asked for a little extra sauce and he wanted $ 2. Really? I just paid $ 10 for what was basically rice and I can’t have a little extra sauce? Also, there was only like .25″ of sauces left in the bottles they had so that option was out. So i got a refund. The other girls got their food. One girl wanted some sour cream and the owner/cook said $ 1.25. But she had already paid $ 18 any way… again, just ridiculous. After everyone was seated the manager and who appeared to be his wife began talking about their customers, right there, in front of them. That is not good business!!! When half of us we were saying our good byes, stood up and were giving hugs, etc… The woman came up to us and asked us to put our food in the trash«there is a trash can right there»… um. no shit! Thanks! we werent leaving yet, just saying goodbye… pipe the *uck down! I don’t recommend. There are two Baja Taco’s on base which is quite amazing, fresh, and fast!

Their restaurant is located on Hickam Air Force Base next to the golf course. When I go there, I’m usually the only one in the restaurant. This is probably a good indicator that they don’t serve good Mexican food! I go there for one thing and one thing only: Horchata! I’ve had their chips and salsa which is very comparable to store bought chips and salsa, nothing special about it. Then there’s their taquitos, which taste like the frozen kind that you just pop in the microwave or oven. Not impressed at all. I’ve also tried their queso, which was pretty sad because the cheese got really hard really quick so it was difficult to scoop up. Not that tasty either. I keep striking out with their food so I’ll just stick to the Horchata! Their service is good, but very slow. I like the atmosphere in there-they play Mexican music and have a big screen TV which is usually on a sports channel because well, the restaurant is located on a golf course. Overall, I’m happy with the Horchata but I’ve had way better Mexican food elsewhere.
