New owners and remodeling completed. They have always delivered my orders on time and have a good selection of hardware and building materials.

I’m afraid that your review and mine indicate that they are doing just that… Going out of business. I think they must be just selling off their stock while they go out of business. I went in there today and they didn’t even have an extension cord for sale. It’s a real shame, because the nearest hardware store 20 minutes away. I’m hoping that they will just downsize to a regular sized Ace Hardware store and stay open. Update 8⁄2015 The store has been completely remodeled and stocked and now has more than ever. Still been in a few times and they were out of stock of what I wanted but thankful that I can usually get what I need locally. Haven’t really compared prices to the warehouses but worth it for the convenience.

Might be the worst hardware store I’ve ever been too, which is really a shame because it has the potential to be great. Fantastic location in downtown Hiawassee with lots of local traffic, a very large building, spacious aisles, good amount of parking, and no real local competition other than a Lowes in Murphy and Home Depot in Blairsville, and seemingly large inventory when you walk in. Upon a short stroll through the premises, you’ll learn quickly that it is a junky unorganized store with polite but incredibly unhelpful employees who seem more interested in talking to each other than helping a customer find something or answer a question. Peruse the aisles and quickly realize that they are out of almost everything you’d want at a hardware store(I wanted to buy a funnel for changing oil, and they had zero of any kind, as well as some plumbing supplies for fixing a broken bathroom faucet — again, they did not have anything close in stock), and since they have no computerized inventory system, no way to check on what they actually have in stock. The only aisle that appeared to be fully stocked was also filled full with a giant pile of old cardboard boxes that should have been broken down and hauled outside months ago. They did have a fair amount of housewares and home gadgets, but the shopping experience was more like going to a thrift store or a garage sale than a business selling ostensibly new merchandise. My parents recently renovated a vacation home in the area, and tried to buy the majority of their supplies from Hiawassee Hardware’s building supply unit, but found them to be difficult to work with, unresponsive to their needs, and late with delivering everything they ordered. All my prior visits have been about the same. I really want to like this store and support it, as I I love my local Ace Hardware in my hometown and generally don’t like going to the big box stores, but this is a sad shell of what a locally owned hardware business ought to be. Please up your game Hiawassee Hardware or I fear you may be out of business soon.
