Eddie was FABULOUS! He made our experience at zanes 5+ starts(not to mention the steak was delish). We are regulars here, but it is Eddie’s customer service and great personality that has us taking the time to write a review. Zanes, keep doing what you’re doing. You’re a 5⁄5 in our book… And keep hiring characters like Eddie! Cheers, Derek and Venea

Five of us dined in a very noisy restaurant on a Friday night. But the noise was not oppressive, and disappeared as soon as we began eating because our focus immediately turned to the delicious favors. We started with a perfectly prepared artichoke and salads. After the appetizers, I had the boullibaise, a dish I love and eat in restaurants all over the county. I would rate theirs among the best I’ve ever had. Three of my guests had the bone-in rib eye, each of which was prepared to perfection. Everyone raved about the flavor. My fourth guest enjoyed his chicken piccata. One thing which really surprised me is that Zane’s allows you to carry in your own wine, with NO corkage fee. All in all, we had a very pleasant evening with very good food and a friendly, personable server.

My daughter and I ordered through Grubhub. $ 60 including tip for NY steak, baked potato, truffle mac and cheese. We ordered rare and it came medium well. It wasn’t tender. The mac and cheese lacked seasoning and salt. No utensils. No napkins. No butter for the bread.

I’ve been to Zane’s many times. Since I tried the skirt steak, I’ve never ordered anything else! For value for money, it simply can’t be beaten. I always like a fillet Mignon so I was surprised when the skirt was so good that I always now order it. Price includes 2 sides and the bread you get to start is delicious also. Love this place!!!

This meal was so good! I generally stay away from carbs, and they accommodated my weird requests with aplomb. Deducting one star because it took a while between things to get our waitress’ attention(we weren’t given silverware, but we had an appetizer in front of us, I had to flag down the busboy, etc). Huge Caesar salad, no croutons, extra cheese– YUM. Ridiculously large steak, cooked perfectly to my specifications– YUMMMM. The hummus was terrible. We doctored it up with a wedge of lemon and some salt and it was palatable. If I were ever in HB again, I’d go back.

Good food, good environment. Service was very good as well. Definitely recommend if you are looking for something a little nicer.

Came here for a special occasion, and there is a nice, intimate atmosphere here! The space is not too large… probably sits about 50 people, and the lighting is dim. They also have an upstairs loft area available for private parties. Street parking is limited, but there is a metered parking lot across the street(next to the Hermosa Beach Pier). Our server was courteous and left us a carafe of water for our table. She also brought us some delicious bread and dips! I enjoyed having something to dip my bread in. Once our server took our order, however, it took a pretty long time for us to get our food. Many of the other parties nearby who had arrived before us had not received their food for quite some time as well. Food: — Bread with Dips — Olive tapenade, hummus, and roasted red peppers. I really enjoyed this! The bread was soft and warm. We couldn’t resist asking for more! — Truffled Mac N’ Cheese — Cheddar, Fontina, Gruyère, Toasted Panko Bread Crumbs. This dish came our piping hot, so be careful! This appetizer had a nice blend of cheeses and was overall pretty good. — Grilled Salmon — Simply grilled with pesto crème on the side. Comes with two«side kicks»…I ordered the Sautéed Wild Mushrooms and Sautéed Spinach. The salmon was moist but a bit bland. They put the pesto on the side, but it became watery from the juice from the spinach mixing together. — Cioppino — Their signature dish! Tomato base with shrimp, lobster, calamari, clams, and fresh fish. Comes with two toasts. Not bad, but it was a little too salty once we got to the bottom of the bowl.

Food was good… but this is a small place with high ceilings. It is probably the loudest restaurant I can remember in recent times when you are planning for a more upscale experience. If you want conversation this is not the place to be if they are more than 70% full.

Good food and service. Tables are REAL close together with no dividers, so not much privacy. Wine(Coastal Vines Pinot Noir from Sonoma) was terrible. Must’ve been a bottle that had been sitting open too long. Cioppino, the house special, was good but not great. Same with my son’s Lobster Ravioli. Both entrees were tasty, but neither had a Wow factor. Best part of meal was the Blue Wedge Salad, which we split… very good. Meals come with a generous portion of bread and several different dipping sauces. Overall a good meal, but nothing I’d go out of my way to try again.

Let me start by saying, NOCORKFEE. Just so those of you swayed by supermarket priced wine on the side of your fancy steak in a fancy restaurant need read no further. The food was also delicious, my boyfriend and I both got steaks and they were cooked to perfection and pretty reasonably priced. The reason I’m only giving four stars is because we were sat super close to the couple next to us and the drinks and appetizers are a bit on the pricey side. That being said, I will definitely be returning to Zane’s because the food and location is great and the staff are reasonable and friendly.

My wife and I finally tried Zanes for our anniversary. It was a lot smaller than I imagined and EXTREMELYNOISY!!! MYWIFEAND I HADTOSCREAMLIKETHISJUSTTOTALK!!! The high ceilings echoed every word everyone spoke. We almost walked out after we got our water, but opted to stay because there was nothing else open. My wife got the filet. I got the skirt steak. The filet was like any other filet. Nothing to Unilocal about. But that skirt steak was probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. It was juicy, full of flavor, and everything that a steak should be… Mouth watering. I doubt my wife will want to come back because her experience, at least food wise, wasn’t as stellar as mine. The noise really was like a Spinal Tap 11.

I very much look forward to date nights with my hubby on the weekends. This place was one of them. We always are in sync when it comes to what to order so it makes sharing just perfect! The butternut squash ravioli was delicious. The ahi tartare was fresh and the portion was quite generous. We ordered the scallops dish and oh my… the size of the scallops were huge! This place is definitely reasonable when it comes to quality and quantity.

4 star seems perfect. Went on a Thursday 7pm with the fiancé. Bar full, pretty dead in restaurant and sat us next to 2 old ladies who were coughing a lot during the meal. Got very busy soon after. Would definitely go back for a few reasons but can also not give a 5 for some others. Good: –Free bread and 3 dipping sauces were spectacular –free corkage on first bottle of wine. Not expected for a higher end restaurant –wait staff very nice and hands off when needed –bill ended at $ 90 for two steak(which included 2 side dishes each) Average: –steaks were good not great(bone in ribeye and filet). Could have been cooked better and flavor was a notch below some of the very high end –sides were similar. Brussel sprouts were not up to par with what others are doing with them Overall it’s a great date night, place with friends(have a variety of options that are less expensive as well), or with clients and the location can’t be beat!

I have always liked this place, and once again I’m shock I don’t have a review for this place. The other night we came for dinner with my step daughter. One of my favorite things about this place is that it’s got amazing starter breads! It’s very good by itself or you could try it with any one of the three dips that they offer(red peppers/tomatoes, hummus, olives). We started with their calamari! You should get this! Very nice and crispy! They don’t have the regular marinara sauce that comes with it though, they have some kind of aioli. But you can ask for marinara which they will make for you, so it’s really nice and hot. Just FYI. I got their house cioppino(can’t go wrong with that). Amazing broth! The Mr got their filet and my step daughter got the lobster ravioli. They dug into their dishes before I could take a photo. Boo. Lol The lobster ravioli was very heavy, and I don’t think she liked it very much as she ate just two and left the rest.

I’m really torn about how to rate this place but I decided that two stars is fair. Let me start by saying I’ve always been a fan of the cioppino here and when I had it tonight, it was excellent as always. But that is where the excellence begins and ends… Everything else was mediocre at best, mostly subpar. The service was the was the worst I’ve experienced in a long time. We were seated for 15 minutes before anyone even offered us water. My mother in law became so frustrated she pulled a plastic water bottle out of her purse and poured that water into her glass… When the waitress finally came we ordered our drinks and the entire meal while we had her attention bc we had no idea when we’d see her again. We waited for 30 to 40 minutes for the food arrive. When it finally showed up we asked the waitress what the holdup was and she looked confused and said«I don’t know, the kitchen must be backed up.» There was little acknowledgement of the ridiculous wait nor any attempts to make it up to us. I will not be going back here. I think the owner should set up a cioppino bar and ditch the rest of it.

Ambience: The atmosphere and décor was plain and simple, which was perfect for this restaurant that is not extremely spacious. Service: Service was okay, the waitress was nice and was helpful in choosing what to eat for dinner. Food: My meal was outstanding, I ordered the cioppino with angel hair pasta. This dish was delicious and I loved the bread it was served with along with the complementary bread that was brought to the table. The red-pepper spread was the best by far. The only downside to the meal was that my mothers scallops were not cooked and had to be brought back. Other than that Zane’s was good.

Not amazed by the food. Got the coppino and it was whatever. Had some appetizers… Whatever… Food didn’t blow my mind. I do like that you can byow(bring your own wine) with a corkage fee. I brought a screw on cap… Avoided the charge, technically no cork was popped lol. The service though was horrible. The were slow, not attentive and for that I initially gave them a 1 star rating but I rethought about it and it was just a one time incident that is affecting this review The food was not memorablebut the server and hostesses was horrible. Horrible service is a big turn off for me and really I never want to return. It was during the Christmas month my friends and I went there to have our gal pal gift exchange. It was crazy and I’m sure they are busy since they are along the busy Hermosa pier but we even if it was slow service that isn’t the reason that really change my option of the restaurant is that the hostess took the time to come over to my friends and I during our gift exchange and told us to be quiet(and I dont think we were crazy loud, we had boring gifts. Deinitely no Justin Timberlake d*ck in a box now that will get us crazy). But the dang restaurant was loud with the chitter chatter of the packed restaurant and she was loud, giggling with some male customers. Sorry that turned me off totally from the restaurant. I’m writing this review months later that that scenario unfortunately stuck in my mind.

This was by far not to be even an option on an evening in the great area and as I was driving by I saw on the window and it said maritins and steak. Well, since I am a sucker for both I was hooked and wondered in. Then my idea was just have a martini and dip my toe in but I was thinking Flemings or this Steak and Whiskey pheonom across the street. Toe dipping I did with the martini and though while good, it was in a non stemmed glass and that is a general no no but looking around I saw and smelled wonderful chow all around. So I stayed. Looking at the menu of meat, Cal-Italian and barish food there were multiple choices but I was not thinking steak. First up these decent focaccia bread with multiple dips, some folks may charge $ 10 but it comes with the food. So good and generous. O, and I was thinking I saw this plate of pasta and shrimp and it smelled wonderous as did the pizza that was at another table. Well my food came out next, very good calamari with a nice dipping sauce but my highlight was the crispy brussel sprouts that were out of this world. Yeah, I know I didn’t go so deep into the menu but I whammed into the place and whimmed the menu too. I did well but next time in there is much more to do. What a nice surprise in this wonderful town.

First time to Zane’s and it was absolutely fantastic. I came here with a Travelzoo voucher so it was an amazing deal, but the prices are not bad at all for the quality even without the voucher. To start we had a couple of cocktails, the blueberry lemonade and the blood orange margarita. The blueberry lemonade was too sweet for my tastes, but the blood orange margarita was perfect. They also give you complimentary delicious seasoned focaccia bread with olive tampenade, bruschetta and hummus to start. The tampenade was by far my favorite, but the bruschetta was quite good as well, the hummus was not seasoned very well but overall a great free starter. We also ordered the ahi tuna tartar to start and it was great, tons of ahi, this thing was huge, I was like I’m not going to be finish my meal. Great quality fish as well, I would have like a little soy on the side but I’m a soy sauce addict. For my main course I had the cioppino, which is their house specialty, and I gotta say it is one of the best cioppinos I’ve ever had. Perfectly flavored delicious red sauce, fresh lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams and white fish throughout, so good. My mouth is watering just thinking about it lol. The hubby had the sea bass, which was also really well done, with great sides of broccolini and potatoes, but I have to agree with the other reviewers that the cioppino is a whole other class, definitely recommend getting that if you like cioppino. Oh and almost forgot to mention the best part, free corkage on your first bottle! This allowed us to bring a delicious red that we got in Napa with us to compliment the meal, just perfect.

I was underwhelmed after my experiences at other places in the strand area. The atmosphere is very nice but they are either under staffed or don’t prepare well for a busy night. Which is interesting since this large party was at least two weeks notice on the planned evening rendezvous. I do say that the food was GREAT(albeit the minestrone soup which was bland and lifeless and complaints from the table that the mista salad was overwhelmingly acidic/vinegary…the rest are just minor details). The bread is fresh and has the firm exterior, soft interior texture that goes well with their olive, pepper, and hummus spreads. While all three were great with the bread I honestly could swear by the salty and personality filled olive spread. We also had calamari come out which was fine, fresh and had a breading that did not detract from the squid. I personally ordered their New York Strip Steak, which was okay but a tad over cooked on the edges. Finished with a fresh hot churro with ice cream. The churro was okay, just doesn’t live up to my Florida-peppered nostalgia to the ones made fresh there. BUT mindful that this is roughly a group of 40 they were aiming to serve all around the same time, that’s legitimately a quip for the size of the restaurant. Good flavors, professional staff, just felt like they were a bit(reasonably) stressed with their front of house staff to customer ratio. 3.5 stars for service. 4 if I were to exclude it and focus on food/wine(which is a small list but with a balanced selection to compliment their menu). I definitely got the sense that servers were unsure of when to approach the table and was a little put off when the SA took away our bread and spreads almost immediately after we ordered our meals. It just didn’t live up to the hype for me. Maybe another time with a small table. Whenever I happen to be on this coast again.
