Sadly paradise is gone. Since sushi sei closed hermosa is left with nothing except for RA… which is basically crap. Amazing how there is nothing good in this area. Or disappointing is more like it.

Was not horrible, but was not the best Sushi I have had. Service was on the slow side. Cucumber salad was the highlight!

How does this place stay open?! around 10 years ago it was actually decent, but at some point, they lost their way. I’ve given them several chances over the years because the location is a fun spot, but every time I’ve eaten there the last few years it’s been disappointing.

Nice place, not super the best to the test, but never the less… Some times it’s okay to have sushi at an hidden place(as others call it) it’s a good place to go to if you like a quiet sushi evening. Their HH can be super crowded with students, depends on if you like to chose for this. It ends at around 6−7pm. Nice quiet booths too.

Nice location on the boardwalk. Mediocre fish. Nothing special. The tuna was stringy and tough(the sashimi). Miso soup didn’t have anything but broth. The dinosaur did not look like a dinosaur. But great easy location.

Came in for a bite after a long day at the beach. The atmosphere was hot and stuffy though it wasn’t really that hot out that day. The waitress was odd and struggling to be of service. Seemed like we were a nuisance. The sushi was not that great and a bit warm it seemed. $ 40 for three rolls and a coke. A bit expensive for mediocre fish and bad service. Makes sense the place was empty. Won’t be going back here.

Chef Don Don is the best. I don’t know where these bad reviews have come from but this is my favorite sushi spot for sure. The waitresses aren’t very nice, but head up to the sushi bar where they are extremely friendly and you’ll leave very happy. Happy hour from 530 – 630 has amazing prices too!

The prices surprised me how cheap it is especially by the beach and the party scene. Chefs are always cool. My favorite sushi spot yet

Having frequented this place a few more times, I am compelled to update my review. My first couple of experiences here were good, with fast service, and good sushi(for the price). The last two visits have resulted in everything from stomach cramps, to dry heaving, and general food poisoning symptoms. The first time it happened I thought it was the other place we had gone to first(my eating partner didn’t have any side effects). But last night I ordered takeout and woke up in the morning completely sick to my stomach. I can’t in good conscience skip posting this update to warn people that you are rolling the dice if you eat here.

I went here a few years ago after 6-man and it was fun, waitress was cool & the food was decent and affordable. I was in Hermosa a few weeks ago with two of my girlfriends and we were craving some sushi so we walked on over since the sign said it was happy hour. There was literally nobody inside the restaurant and we were the only customers in there. We went and sat down outside and the two female waitresses straight up ignored us for a good 5 minutes. Then we went inside to see if someone would notice us and the sushi chef said to sit down anywhere so we sat at the bar. The two waitresses walked in and ignored us again! Seemed like these ladies would rather park their asses at the bar instead of do their jobs and make tips. Not to mention the place looked(and smelled) like a total dump. We immediately got up from our chairs and walked over to Rok sushi, WAY better anyways.

Paradise sushi is not your typical sushi joint… It is located on Hermosa Beach Pier Ave, tucked away on the corner and sort of hidden. I think Paradise Sushi is a perfect balance to the rest of the bars and restaurants around Hermosa Pier which are loud and full of party people. So if you are looking for quiet and boring sushi bar this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for some good sushi while listening to good music then this is the place for you. They also have big TV screen’s playing the Dodgers game which was a plus as well. We went there on a Thursday night for Happy hour which last until 6 pm. Sushi Chef Darren was fantastic, he took care of us, all the fish were fresh and that is the most important thing to me when I visit ANY Sushi bar. Our server was great too and despite of her juggling too many tables she was very attentive to us. I will be back soon :-)

We used to love this place but we were away for a few years. We went back there tonight and did not have a good dining experience. First, we did not get a warm welcome. The sushi guy saw us and just said sit anywhere. The waitresses were busy chatting with other diners and we waited 5 minutes before someone came to our table and asked for our drinks. We ordered green tea and it was served to us lukewarm. We ordered the sushi special that came with a salad, plus two other types of sushi orders and cucumber salad. The dressing on the salad did not taste good. It took a long time for them to serve the sushi we ordered(and there were only a few people dining. When we were served our sushi order and asked the waitress if there was more coming, she said, I don’t really know, it’s my first night tonight. The sushi was mediocre. The rice was not shaped like«proper» sushi. The quality of the fish was okay. After $ 42 plus tip for 2 people, we felt so disappointed and vow we will only go to «legitimate» sushi restaurants from now on.

My fiancé and I love this place! Went again tonight for Sunday happy hour to round out a great weekend and it was fabulous! Great sushi and even better prices!!! Try the dynamite roll and the garlic edamame!!! We come here all the time and it sure beats places like Rok, which we refuse to go to anymore after numerous bad experiences. You’ll love paradise!!!

This place has really made a come back since the new sushi chef came a few months ago. They now have all kinds of different specials that are sooooo good. Garlic roasted edamame special and their seared tuna is ridiculously delicious. Yellowtail roll is my favorite there. The prices are really good and worth it. The place has been really busy lately so you know the fish is fresh. They have new happy hour specials at night, so its a good place to kick off the night with sushi and sake bombs for a good deal. The waiter Jose is awesome and has been around forever and is happy with the new turn around in this restaurant. The sushi chef is very personable and loves to do omakase if you ask for it. Definitely would come back! Mmm…

it was ok. i had eaten two rounds of wings earlier in the day and needed something different. enter sushi. i actually found out they have a weekend HH via my HH app. a couple sushi items and $ 10 pitchers. i honestly can’t remember much since i had already been imbibing for 3 hours prior. but, they definitely have HH. :) it kinda looks grimy, being located right under Fat Face and next to the parking lot with all the garbage next door. maybe that gives the impression on less than fresh seafood. who knows? oh, we had the spinning table thing too.

fail x10. I USED to LOVE this place. Not anymore. Service and food are absolutely awful. I believe it’s a result of the new ownership circa 2009. Waited 90 minutes for food, then tried to cancel the order to go elsewhere because they forgot to put in our order. The chef yelled at me and said it was our faults for not saying anything earlier. Umm… what? Sad to say because there isa really nice waiter there named Jose. Never ever going back. Rude people ruined it.

I have to agree with some of the Unilocalers on this one. This place used to be so GOOD. Fresh fish, great service, awesome HH. But now, I don’t know what happened? How could you lose the great QUALITY of this place. You definitely lost your local customers. The fish doesnt seem FRESH, the service is slow, its just not the same anymore.

Wow… I get invited to meet some friends for dinner. So I decide to Unilocal this place first and I agree with my fellow Unilocalers… LOL Service was slow and bad. Good thing I wasn’t choking because I had to ask several times for a refill on water. We ordered the Godzilla eye, that was pretty good, yellow tail, tuna, smelt eggs, white fish, california rolls, spicy tuna rolls, and spider rolls and miso soup. All I can say is I’ve had better and the Miso soup, well that was just water, barely any flavor. The alcohol was good… but how can you mess up alcohol. For the price we paid… it came out to be around $ 140.00 we could of found a better place. The Best thing about that place was it’s in a busy area good for people watching. Other than that I’d rather try another sushi place.

We found Fishook aka Paradise Sushi off of . I didn’t even know it was here. We came for lunch on a friday. We ordered the: Calamari $ 6.95 Salmon Nigiri $ 5(2pcs) Albacore Tuna Nigiri $ 5(2pcs) Sampler(Eel Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Salad, and Miso Soup) $ 14.95 Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Special with Rice and Miso Soup $ 7.95 The Miso soup was good. It even had onion and I think cucumbers in it. Calamari was also good. but it was too salty. You can get better and more calamari at Kaya Sushi for the same price. Salmon and Albacore Nigiri were just average. I’ve had worse… but I’ve also had better. The Chicken Teriyaki came with zucchini, carrots, and mushrooms. But it was also too salty. Eel Roll had too much sauce on it. And it was too salty. Notice a theme? Lay off the salt! Shrimp Tempura Roll was the best out of everything I had. I would get this again. Salad was average. It seemed like it was just filler. There was sesame seed on almost everything. Not that this is a bad thing. Just a neutral statement. Parking: There is metered parking all over.

There are many huge, blaring red flags with this restaurant. The second you walk in you are hit with an overpowering fish smell. Stronger than the one you get when you walk down the Redondo Beach pier. That means something is definitely wrong with this place. I let this go because I was starving and Sushi Sei was closed for lunch. Note to self: must find better sushi for lunch when roaming the Hermosa pier. We ignore this huge passé and decide to eat lunch here anyways. We get the edamame, oyster shooters, two spicy tuna hand rolls, a spicy scallop roll, the spider roll, and a roll with scallops and spicy sauce. The edamame was alright. Kind of hard to mess up edamame. The oysters were okay, less than average. The sauce was riddled with MSG and the flavor was definitely lacking. I enjoyed the quail egg and oyster though. The sushi came, and the presentation and flavor was not even thought out. The spicy tuna hand roll was the only enjoyable roll of the meal. I love spicy tuna, so I was happy with the fact that they only put rice in the hand roll. The rice then became an issue with the other rolls. It was incredibly sticky and did not bode well with the poorly put together rolls. Every roll fell apart when I tried to eat it, and the soft shell crab tasted disgusting! They also just dump«spicy sauce» in pools on top of the roll, so everything is overwhelmed with the mayo. Definitely not tasty. I was okay with all of this and let it go until the bill came. It was $ 65 for lunch for two. Outrageous! The prices on the bill didn’t reflect the prices on the menu! And to charge $ 7 for a hand roll? Ridiculous! Then $ 12 for rolls where you get only 4 pieces of sushi. Weak sauce! Skip this place and head to Gu Gu sushi up the road.
