Hermosa Beach Concerts on the Pier

Every summer, Hermosa Beach Pier plays host to a series of concerts on the pier to bring the community of Hermosa Beach together to celebrate summer. The beach is opened up to hundreds of picnic-​ers beginning at around 4 and festivities begin at 5:30.
Also called the Sunset Concert, it features both popular and unknown bands playing on a stage set up on the beach with the Pier as the backdrop. There’s usually an opening band before the headliner, but all the music is beach-​appropriate and universally liked. It starts at 5:30 p.m., and ends at sunset at between 7:30−8 p.m.
The crowd varies from families with small children to the young singles crowd who mingle and chat (and need I say flirt) with neighboring picnic-​ers. Most of the crowd brings blankets, coolers, picnic baskets filled with beach friendly food (anything that can be eaten without utensils or plates), and even bottles of wine. The police seem to leave the beach drinkers alone during these special events, but make sure to bring plastic cups for your adult beverages since glass of any kind is not allowed on the sand. We always bring wine (screw top or pre-​cork it at home), plastic cups, napkins, cheese, crackers, meats, hummus, pita, veggies, etc. and turn the picnic into dinner. If you have a low portable table, it helps. Chairs are nice, but unnecessary. Also, bring a sweater since the beach gets chilly the minute the sun goes down!
