I am a huge fan and supporter of Nashville’s Greenways system and the stunning Stones River Greenway is another wonderful example of why. Miles of beautiful trails weaving through the Donelson/Hermitage area, the Stones Rover Greenway is a great place to walk, run, or bike, with gorgeous views of the Stones River to keep you company. This greenway is great for long distance training or exercise, and as always is doggy friendly. It’s truly one of the more beautiful places in Nashville to get out and enjoy fresh air. There are several trailheads you can use to access this greenway, including one by the Percy Priest Dam. As always there are plenty of maps and signs to make for easy navigation. I can’t sing the praises of our city’s dedication to green trails enough. Get out and enjoy them!

This is a true gem near at the Percy Priest Dam. I adore coming here. I always feel safe and it’s a beautiful walk any time of the year. Most areas are very shady and in the Spring it smells lovely with all of the honeysuckle. I go on weekends and after work; everyone is friendly and most are respectful of the parks rules. It’s just blissful walking through here!

I love this… Tony and I was enjoying a nice Wintery warm day at «J. Percy Priest Lake and Dam» and we decided to take a walk on the Stones River Greenway Fitness Trail. There was a lot of people doing the same, enjoying the day and getting some exercise. I want to do this more often. It was nice not having to drive a country mile somewhere to enjoy the FREEOUTDOOR Health SPA… lol !!! Why pay good hard earned money to join a gym when God gives us the best playground in the world… NATURE!!! I am going to do this more often and share some photos. Anyone else want to do some walking??? or biking??? or taking the dog out while you jog??? this is the place to motivate !!!

If you are looking for a break and taking in nature while getting in some exercise, the Stones River Greenway at Percy Priest Dam Trailhead is unbelievable. This large paved trail network extends from the base of the Percy Preist Lake along Stones river — with a 10ft wide paved path for runners, walkers, and bikers alike. The path weaves along Stones river with bridges and walkways to the Kohls shopping center(3.0 Miles). If you are so inclined, you can turn around or take a new path all the way to the Cumberland by Opryland. To get from the Percy entrance to the 3 mile stretch to Kohls/Target shopping center stay right. There are a couple branches on the trail and going left will take you out to the YMCA in Hermitage. To get to this awesome paved trail network(with free parking): From I-40 east from Nashville take Stewarts Ferry Pike exit # 219. Turn right on Stewarts Ferry Pike and travel approximately mile to Bell Road. Turn left on Bell Road and facilities are approximately mile ahead. Turn left just before crossing the dam onto access road for trailhead and parking. Trail distance: 3-miles to Kohl’s Trailhead This is what the Park Service Has to Say About the Network(it is also programmed into the Garmin watches for running enthusiasts): The Stones River Greenway is one of the most ambitious projects for the Parks’ Departments’ Greenway Division. The greenway, with its spur connections, adds 9 miles of paved multi-use trail to the city’s growing 33-mile network of trails. Starting at the Percy Priest Dam, this trail follows the Stones River, connecting neighborhoods, shopping areas, schools and parks, until it reaches the Cumberland River. The 700′ Cumberland River Pedestrian Bridge, under construction now, will connect the greenway at Two Rivers Park to the Shelby Bottoms Greenway and will become a critical link in the city’s greenway and bike lane system. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to travel from the Percy Priest Dam to downtown Nashville and north to MetroCenter relatively free from vehicular traffic. The bridge is scheduled for completion in the fall of this year. The three-mile segment between J. Percy Priest Dam and Lake and Lebanon Road, and its one-mile spur to the YMCA, is complete as well as the two-mile segment that runs through Two Rivers Park between the Heartland Park trailhead to the recently renovated WaveCountry pool and Metro Skatepark. The final third of the project, a segment between Lebanon Road and Heartland Park, is under construction(and not open for public access yet except for this event) and targeted for completion in summer 2007. The crossing of Lebanon Road will be the last connection to be made; it will be done upon completion of a new west bound bridge over the Stones River at Lebanon Road by the Tennessee Department of Transportation when the existing old green truss bridge will be converted to pedestrian and bicycle use only for the greenway.
