I have a love/hate relationship with Fresh Market. I want to like it, but I always leave feeling a little crabby. My biggest issue is their wildly inconsistent pricing. Their sale items are usually a pretty good bet… Wild caught fish and organic produce at a truly reasonable price. The problem is that unless you want to spend your entire paycheck, you’ve got to go someplace else to get everything else for your meal. If it’s not on sale, it’s priced way higher than anywhere else in town. They have those little, tall carts that are super easy to roll around and I’d imagine it’s because if you filled a regular size cart, you’d owe them $ 1000 at the checkout.

Just having recently concluded a few month stint in this area, i can say without hesitation, this«supermarket is the greatest place on earth». I dont know what other people are experiencing here as some of the reviews however few are nasty and quite rude. I could not have found this to be a more hospitable place. If you want the freshest meats, poultry, seafood, produce, u name it, they have it here and the store is really quite a marvel. I am accustomed to nice whole foods and other stores in my crowded home in the north east, this store puts them all to shame. In so many ways, the layout, the people are extremely friendly and helpful. Many a day i would catch myself in between errands or just in general wandering over to the freshmarket to see what samples were being given out that day and what was looking good. The displays are really the best i have ever seen hands down in a grocery store. Really, like looking at food art, amazing displays for meat and fish as well as deserts. Some days the samples would go beyond just cheese and coffee which is their norm, they were even doing little composed salads with beets and goat cheese, very well dressed even and with a nice little container to eat it in. I cant tell you how much stuff like that wins me over. Talk about knowing your clientele and catering to them. I love this store. Cant wait to be back in the mountains so i can scavenge their deliciousness some more.

This is the worst Fresh Market we have ever been to hands down. The staff members were incredibly cold and borderline rude. Out of the ten or so people working there not one said a word to us except one blonde lady who said I’m going that way(not nicely either) when apparently I was in her way. The sockeye salmon filet I picked up looked great until I unwrapped it and there were scales covering the fish obviously due to a bad prep job. We probably would have spent twice as much money as we did had we felt comfortable there but we left and went to Harris Teeter(waaaaaay nicer produce) instead.

Normally my take on the Fresh Market is that it’s a great shopping experience in the sense that’s it a very well-laid out store with a nice environment– the look, smell, and feel of the place are very serene and enjoyable. What disappoints is the groceries themselves. There are very limited organic/local/fair trade/vegan options, and yet the prices are still pretty high. You’ll find a lot of the same products as a normal grocery store for a lower price. My experiences with this store highlight my problems with the chain. I was trying to buy one of the prepared foods, but of course there is no labeling to see whether the dishes are vegan or what allergens they might have. So I ask about one of the few dishes that might be vegan– thai noodles– and ask if it’s vegan. The employee didn’t know, and asked someone else, who went to go read the long list of ingredients. They told me it was vegan so I ordered some. At the check out line, I scanned the 30+ ingredients and easily saw«fish» «anchovies» and«egg white» and returned it. So, I was given wrong information about what’s in their food. I don’t blame the employees at all– they were friendly and I know they can’t memorize dozens of dishes with hundreds of ingredients, or even easily see what allergens they contain. I do blame the Fresh Market for not making it easy for customers to see what is in the food before they order, and for putting employees in a difficult position(having to read tiny labels when customers are inevitably unsure of what they are ordering). I later wrote them with my experience and concerns– and they said they would have management speak with staff at that store(all of them? I didn’t give any names…) and provide training on how to provide more accurate information to customers. I appreciate a response, but I said my issue was not with two employees, it was with the chain’s policies against customer-friendly labeling that gave rise to my situation in the first place. So taking their response into account, I’m still giving my experience here one star. I don’t want to order prepared dishes where I have to ask poor staffers to read long ingredient labels one by one so I can figure out what doesn’t have animal products. I wish the Fresh Market would replicate other chains that put helpful labeling on products for consumers. I also wish they had more vegan, local, organic, and fair trade products. Until then, as nice as the feeling is when you walk into a Fresh Market– it’s not worth of it for me.

Fresh market is a bit overpriced on some items, but it’s always great quality. I love BOGO Tuesday’s and they usually have a great selection of wild caught fish. They have a great variety of coffee’s and sweets and delicious corned beef pre-made sandwiches for lunchtime. My only negative is that the staff can be a bit cold at times and not very friendly

Love love love the fresh breads, crafted salads, and sushi. The produce is always so tasty. As with any quality grocery store, the prices are a bit much which prevent me from being able to shop here on a day-to-day basis. I do love to treat myself to goodies at the Fresh Market though. Thanks for the great hospitality, Fresh Market staff!

Food selections good but most of the staff and patrons seem uppity. Have tried going there different times of day, year and is always same. would rather drive to Asheville

We usually stop in each time we visit Hendersonville. TFM has a great selection of produce, meats, seafood, beer, wine, snacks, candy and flowers plus nice selection of cooked foods. Everything in the store is clean and the staff is excellent.

I am an out-of-towner and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to Fresh Market!!! The selections were great, the Employees were friendly and the fresh flower selection was absolutely gorgeous! Being an allergy-stricken family, we were able to find foods that fit our needs(gluten, egg, soy, nuts, etc).

Staff was nice & gave me cookie samples(but that doesn’t constitute a bribe, right?). Store is clean and has a good selection. Conveniently located for me whilst on vacation, so I was only buying wine & snacks. So I can’t really comment on the real groceries, but I would definitely hit it up if it wasn’t in my regular neighborhood. Bonus — Aunt Sally’s pralines! Way to make me feel at home.

I have to agree w/Roxy C., The H’ville Fresh Market has been on a downhill slide for a few years now to the point where I had really rather drive to Asheville. This past Sunday I was in to pick up a few things and out of all the staff that I encountered the only thing that was said to me was«swipe your card.» by the cashier as she leaned over to see around me so she could continue her conversation with the cashier behind me. It’s like a bastion of rudeness for all the Flat Rock Yankees to work and shop at.
