THEHEARTOFHENDERSON The Water Street District is the Heart of Henderson. It is Henderson’s Main Street USA. The Heart of Henderson has been beating as far back as April 16, 1953 when Henderson was incorporated as a city. Since then the original 13 square miles of the second largest city in the State of Nevada has continued to fascinate people with its small town charm. The two lifelines that caused the Heart of Henderson to beat were magnesium and water. The Basic Magnesium Plant was a major force in bringing people to the settlement that would become the City of Henderson. The main ingredient for the plant to survive was water. Consequently they built a water pipeline to bring in water from Lake Mead. The City would pay tribute to the water pipeline by naming its Main Street USA: Water Street. The heart of my World is spending time in charming places. From attending the Super Run Car Show, dining and gaming in its people scale casinos, and enjoying coffee in the late Coffee House; I have supported the World of the Water Street District. The Water Street District is relatively a half mile walk. The walk encompasses many mom & pop businesses. The Emerald Island Casino boasts that it is a casino where the owner knows the regulars names. Coo Coo’s Café is a family owned café where the owner Paul Christiance has named a few drinks after his regular customers. Even the legendary Boyd started from the Eldorado Casino in 1962. Water Street is a White Pages directory of mom and pop businesses. Spending time on Water Street is one of the best values in the Las Vegas Valley. The Rainbow Club Casino has served me delicious chicken parmesan with spaghetti and a soup or salad for $ 6.35 in 2015. With a Coke and coffee the meal is a bargain. Drinking in Water Street is very inexpensive. A bottle of Budweiser at the Rainbow Club bar is only $ 1.75. Drinking in the Eldorado and Emerald Island is also a great deal. Lotus Chinese Restaurant provides reasonable lunch specials. And, I very recently learned that a Coo Coo’s Café breakfast is a great way to start the day. Water Street District is also the heart of good health. The Downtown Henderson Center is a fitness powerhouse that also includes a rock-climbing wall. Only a few blocks north of Water Street, Pacific Street intersects with the Union Pacific Trail. This brings the Heart of Henderson a relatively short bike ride and moderate hike to the Fiesta Henderson, Horizon Drive, and even the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. Throughout the year, annual events that the Water Street District holds bring the public together. These events include the Henderson Heritage Parade & Festival, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Art Fest, Super Run Car Show, and Winter Fest. History and the future intersect in the vicinity of the crossroads of Water Street and Atlantic Avenue. In City Hall, decisions are made that will affect the city’s future for generations. New businesses weave themselves into the tapestry of Water Street. The Heart of Henderson beats on strong and proud.
