I had such a great experience here. You just can’t beat good customer service, and these guys delivered. They didn’t have one of the items I was looking for, but they phoned their other location and I had great customer service there as well.

I’m so disgusted with Garrett’s!!! My family was thrilled when the store started to carry some basic items for live stock animals. The owner had VERY fair prices that were actually lower by a bit than anywhere else that is local. i.e. C.O.B. rolled oats for my horses. But, like in all things that are too good to be true, she started raising her prices and is now asking over $ 5MORE per sack! This is ridiculous and highway robbery. There is NOREASON in God’s creation she had to do this! EVERYTHING else in her store is much higher than anywhere else between Cloverdale to Santa Rosa. And the town council preaches«SHOPLOCAL», awh… yeah, right! Couldn’t Garrett’s have at least given us poor local farmers a little break in feeding our animals? How many millions of dollars does this lady need anyway? Her reputation is bad enough, if you ask any local about her, as she is not a nice person! She has given people now another reason to shop elsewhere. This is the last straw!!! I have no plans in ever returning to this store. And it’s a shame as I am a 5th generation to our farming community. My grandparents and parents shopped at Garrett’s ever since opening it’s doors, but can no longer justify making someone else rich at their expense. They are now shopping at the Ace in Cloverdale! Just after awhile we locals are sick and tired of being gouged, much less from a local herself.

They advertise that they have«specialists» to help you but I can’t say that anyone who has ever helped me was all that experienced. Most annoying is the garden department manager; two different associates have told me, on two separate occasions, that the garden manager would call me to let me know if a certain plant was available for special order. I left my name and phone number and waited, and waited, and waited. I never received a call for either request and I’m sure that I never will no matter how many times I inquire. The garden dept manager is unfriendly, provides zero customer service, and should not be serving the public. If it were my store, I’d keep her in the back doing something that would not involve customer contact. On the plus side, sometimes Garrett’s has items that are hard to find at the big box stores but be prepared to pay a premium price.

Garrett’s is one of the last true-blue hardware places! They have everything it seems. The greatest thing about them Is they know what you need. Huh? They know what works and doesn’t work(code, weather, best-practice, quality etc). They are local and that’s great for you time-wise and the planet.(Driving to Windsor or Sta Rosa for something is stupid and piggish). Support this place, they support the ‘Burg!

So about ACE i went there couple times and everyone was really helpful. the first time i was looking for some nice planting plot and someone there was nice enough to show me around. After that i went for some bee traps and i have to admit that they are pretty expensive compare to other places i went to. Another days i was there looking around for the best dirt i could get for my little cactuses and i could not figure out which one. Then the guy working there came to me and asked if i needed help after explaining him my need. he showed me some dirt around that was specially for cactuses and i think that was cool even when i think of it now… overall i always have a great experience when i go there. the customer service is always good to me. Caring and asking if i found everything i was looking for. i always step out of there content.

I have to be desperate to shop here. I live less that a mile from the store but am willing to drive almost anywhere else to get what I need. I get that they should cost a little more than HD but they are way more. God save you if you try to return something. They have a special cash register for returns. So while you are waiting people keep getting in the other lines to buy stuff and you are ignored. I am 61 and have been working on my own houses for 40 years but I am not a trades person. I seem to know more than the guys that work there. I get why I would have some more experience than the kids at HD but find them much more knowledgeable than the older guys at this hardware store.

They have a fantastic selection of hardware, building material, housewares, decorative items for the home, and seasonal items like BBQs and Christmas stuff. The floor clerks are knowledgeable and helpful, but the checkout girls need some work on civility and attentiveness(maybe they could pay a little more to get mature workers with a better work ethic). PRICES? Well, in some instances you’ll pay a little more than the big box stores but you’re keeping your money in the local economy and the superior service is worth a hell of a lot more than you’d waste on gas driving to Santa Rosa. One of the best clerks on the floor is a guy named Amos – knows the store inside and out, and has given me excellent service. There are some whiners giving this place a bad review and my advice to them is to see the store manager(Frank-I believe) instead leaving dissatisfied — I did and he resolved my problem. All in all I gotta give the 5 stars.

Visiting Healdsburg for a month and was told that Garrett’s was” the best hardware store in the world”. We love a good hardware store, so when we needed a hardware item, we knew where to go. So far been there twice and both times the same experience: floor people very helpful, but checkout women RUDERUDERUDE. TERSETERSETERSE. What’s the purpose of that. They have everything in the store and the floor clerks were very cordial and helpful. Jolting experience change when the cashier told us, rudely, «don’t go out that door, go to that counter, blah blah blah». Wouldn’t «pardon me, could you please exit the other door» instead be a better way to do it. Looks like there are many others with this experience. Will go to another hardware store, or by the Windsor branch if I go that way – they have much better customer service ratings. Hope the manager read this.

I’ve always had the philosophy, «If Ace doesn’t have it, you don’t need it!» I know that there is a lot of controversy about the big box stores running out the small family businesses, but sometimes the big stores don’t necessarily have the items I’m looking for either. I stopped in yesterday to pick up some garden soil and everyone was very friendly. I’ve never had a problem with staffing as there is always someone around to help I’m a local, and in light of the rising gas prices, I tend to stick closer to home unless I have lots of shopping to do. When I don’t want to drive anywhere I just have to have something, I go to Garretts. They always have what I am looking for, and if they don’t have it, then I don’t need it. I especially like their Country Store. They always have great gift ideas and I tend to forget about them because I don’t like to shop that much. I know they have higher prices, but if they save me time and gas from having to go into Santa Rosa, then why not stay local and shop local.

Good old fashioned local hardware store. The employees were helpful yet felt more small town and, well, the old fashioned courteous people you’d feel comfortable approaching w/any need in the store. Yes, prices are higher than your Home Depot’s & Lowe’s of the world but that’s to be somewhat expected when you’re in small town USA. Reminds me of how local mom & pop hardware stores used to be until the big box disasters came into the game. But seriously, it’s a hardware store… what more is really needed here?

They aren’t the cheapest place to get things, but I had a really positive experience here last week. I decided to buy my BF a smoker for Valentine’s day. First I called and got in touch with a lady in Patio, who actually KNEW what she was talking about. She found what I was looking for, pulled it, and held it for me. When I arrived about an hour later, she was friendly, helpful and showed me a few other things I may want/need to go with it — there was no pressure at all to buy anything and the information she gave me was very valuable. The girls at the front counter as I walked in looking for patio… eh — they left a lot to be desired.

You’d think if you ran an Ace Hardware in this day and age, you’d realize that you’ve got to have good customer service. These guys clearly haven’t figured that out. Rude, rude, rude. Like an earlier reviewer, I went to the store looking for a specific, common item. Couldn’t find it, so I stopped an employee and asked where I could find it. He told me «over there». When I asked«where» he said, «look at the sign». When I said I didn’t see the sign he was referring to, he said in a very irritated tone«Fine, I’ll show you.» At that point I said nothing and turned to leave. Another employee said«wait, I’ll show you» and when I kept walking had the audacity to say«well if you want to be mean about it…» People b*tch and moan all the time about big box stores crowding out small retailers. These guys don’t realize that it’s incumbent upon THEM to be nice to customers — it’s not incumbent upon CUSTOMERS to treat them nicely when they are rude. Home Depot has better prices and, shockingly, far better service. These guys deserve to go out of business.(By contrast, the Garrett Ace on Old Redwood Highway is extremely friendly and the staff are very helpful.)
