First i would like to say, the food was alright considering i paid nearly $ 10 for 3 pieces of fried chicken and fries… Secondly, i am giving this place 2 stars for the fact that the fries were semi-seasoned and my chicken was not pink… Now to get the meat and potatoes. I understand that its a lunch place but to not abide by your own predetermined schedule is ridiculous, then to wait nearly two hours to receive your food is beyond irritating especially since you already opened a hour late!!! Then to top the whole experience off, the guy that was working the phone and the front was rude and seemed as if he would rather be on a vacation then taking care of the paying customers… Sadly to say i will NOT be coming here again, Nor will i ever positively recommend it to another. Should anyone ask, i will give them my honest opinion… So if want okay food with a horrible experience then this is the place to be…(I will tell, the only reason I still went ahead and ordered was one, i was already there and two it was a recommendation from a friend — I now question our friendship, legiteably, because this was horrible)

To the two young men helping me, Thank you! You guys make amazing food, you have a clean establishment to be proud of, you make people happy !!! You both made my night. My snapper was wonderful, well cooked, hot out the fryer, the pepperchini was a great add! I’ve never had them together and they compliment one another. It came with bread, a pepperchini, and a tiny lemon slice. The bread I’ll pass on next time(I think it’s wheat) The macaroni salad was delightful. Luckily I had a Lemon at home so I was able to enjoy enough lemon to my hearts content. I will return for more good good soon.

Ive had Unilocal for years and never wrote a review until now. I called multiple times to plave an order and no one ever answered. When i went there at 9:30 the guy seemed like it was a problem to even take my order. Then i realized they dont accept debit/credit! I told him I would run to the closest ATM and if he could take my order now and I would be right back. He refused! Said I needed to pay first(even tho you can place a phone order without pre payment). It took me less than 5 minutes to return and when I did they turned off lights and put a closed sign up! Not only did I not get food, but I paid huge ATM fees at the gas station for nothing!!!

Alright let’s keep this 100. the prawns and shrimp is fire period ! Like seriously! Nobody said this is a 5 star soul food restaurant… This is a hole in the wall smack hood spot! so if your looking for service go to crustaceans in SF but if you want some good quick seafood this is the spot ! Dude in the front makes and takes orders so of course he’s a little frustrated because they are short staffed but I can look over that because the food is that good and I don’t care about a fucking jolly conversation. Me personally. and thinking about them prawns got me ready to slide all the way from Vallejo right now. I’m out.

Ive been coming to family house long enough to see the price hike. Is it worth it? The food tis tasty and should be seen as a fried treat. Whats hard to swallow is pricey food that requires CASHONLY. Thats right, no card and no freestanding atm to help you out. A needful mention, there is never enough sauce to work with; include that in your pre-order cash w/d. pricey treat for yourself or family.

We went here to see if it’s worthy of our every Friday attempt to find good fish. We were searching for a place in Hayward. The fish and chicken combo was so good. The fish was seasoned well without being salty or greasy and so was the chicken. We even had left overs for breakfast. The price is right too! Also the guy at the register was nice and so was the young lady helping him. I will go back again and again as long as it stays consistant. The inside is only waiting chairs but it was very clean thats important. Parking was good too. Next time I will call ahead though. We had catfish… I will try sole the next time.

Great flavored food, peach cobbler and red velvet cakes are great as well, only draw back is they do not accept cards. This is a cash only place, but it won’t stop me from coming back lol

Pass. Good flavor but it’s not that big fresh boom meets heaven– type of cooking. The«special» homemade tartar sauce for $.75 more were two cheap packets of t sauce. Pretty bad on portion size– let’s just say it is extremely portion control-but the flavor tasted like home but I won’t be back. Got a fish dinner, no side and it was $ 13 not even any extra fish to make up for the veggies waived. Too bad, this place is close not closed – yet.

Bottom line, the guy that works there is ruining this places’ rep. I’ve ordered once when an older lady attended me, she was a delight and everything about the catfish w a side of fries was on point(seasoning, cook, portion, presentation, and packaging,). If the guy answer, dont waist ur time or money. That guy is really rude, like it bothered him you’re making him work. And it reflected in his dish too… Terrible experience with the gentleman. But more importantly it reflects managements disconcern with their business. Ive took a look at the earlier Unilocal and it’s been the trend for at least 6 months… So you tell me if they care about the food they put out there?

I wonder if there is new management? The pictures here are not what I got. Very small portions for high prices. Not only were the portions small but the pieces themselves were tiny. I was very disappointed and I wont be back.

I called my order in today and when I arrived it was good to go. The young lady at the counter was also very professional. This was my first visit. I ordered red snapper with fries, and a red velvet cupcake. The fish was seasoned and fried very well(not at all oily and fish tasted fresh). I liked the larger fries(sized in-between those thin one and steak fries). Now, words fail in describing that cupcake! Oh my goodness, that was the best red velvet cupcake I have ever tasted. It was so moist and the cream cheese icing just melted in your mouth(It was catered in from Marita’s Sweet Potato Pie Co on Hesperian Blvd. in San Lorenzo). Will definitely be going back. Nice to have a local fried seafood/poultry joint, not too far from home. Because of the sketchy nature of their operating hours, I will always call beforehand.

Food was dry, bland and way overpriced. Customer service was horrible, guy had a major attitude. Definitely gonna just stick to going to Lena’s café in oakland, better food and much better customer service.

Service was absolutely horrible. The young man that took my order over the phone was acting as if it was an inconvenience to take my order. Then rushed me off the phone. Once I get there after he says my order will be done in 10 minutes, there is no one in the restaurant and the door is locked. So now I’m waiting outside the restaurant at the front door knocking for about 6 to 7 minutes with no response. Then once he comes from wherever he was at, he had the nerve to answer the door with an attitude. As I said at the beginning, service was absolutely horrible I will not be going back!!!

Not sure what all the fuss is about for this place. The personality of the man at the counter was dry… like I was inconveniencing him with my order. It was my first time there but I knew what I wanted … I had time to figure that out while he helped the person in front of me. Prices were high for what you get. I got a side of potato salad. It was bland. The chicken was very dry. The sweet potato pie was fair at best. Bummer all around, I was really looking forward to some good chicken that night. Was at work, told one of my co workers I had been there. She asked how I liked it. told her my experience, she said, «yeah, that’s what I thought when I went too. I won’t go again» … That makes two of us!

Awesome fish and prawns… Good portions! Haven’t tried the chicken yet… Still stuck on the fish and prawns… Cash only!!! Plenty parking… Charge for extras… Fries are ok… Fresh fries would put this place over the top!!! Clean place but no place to eat inside… But they kill on the sea food and its not over seasoned or salted!

Lost its quality, fish tasted bad… rotten, made me sick. Small Pieces, No ATM, Rude Service, the older lady with blonde/brown curly hair seemed to be really distracted and over worked. Ghetto attitude. she barely said one word except for how much we owed. Don’t waste your time with this place.

I’ve never been to a restaurant that I hated/loved as much as Family House. I really don’t know whether to never come back, or to eat here everyday. I’m going to do my best to highlight their strongest and weakest points. If you are a southern fried fish aficionado, Family House will not let you down. The catfish and snapper has a good seasoning on it, not too salty, hints of garlic and spice in the crust, and has a nice crisp outside and juicy interior. The fish has always tasted pretty fresh to me as well. The prices are fairly standard for a spot like this, and the 2-man combo provides a decent amount of food. The food is what keeps me coming back and recommending the place to others. If everything else about Family House was as good as their food, we’d have a big winner. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. First off, this place is never open. Like, ever. They seem like one of those spots that opens when they feel like it instead of adhering to a schedule. Don’t even let there be a holiday, this place will be closed the whole week. That’s a little too mom and pop for me. On busier evenings, good luck having a phone call go through. And I don’t think it’d kill them to have a dining area. Family House is really a family house. it feels more like that than a business.

Just a heads up about family fish and poultry. This is really a good place. My first post was a little skeptical because the food was a little too salty. But that was something I had control over and simply asked the cook no salt on my order. Since then it has been a wonderful experience. I typically go on Fridays where the owner Annie is in the kitchen. Recently, my last visit was a shock! On Saturday November 8th, I actually waited in the parking lot for 10 minutes until they opened. Although the food was on point, the service has dropped severely. Where in the recent past you could order your food over the phone and pay when you get there(CASHONLY), the refused me service when I walked in the door. I didn’t have the cash but wanted to place my order and then get the cash from the ATM at the market across the street. They refused to do this for me. I was in awe. I was told by the server that the day before someone ordered 2 family size meals and never showed up to make payment. I’m like wtf– I’m here and you are going to refuse to make my order! They server was young and obviously had good intentions, but no business sense whatsoever. I plan on informing the owner. I think it’s great to have the phones of your business ringing nonstop with customers who want to make a purchase. But that should not inhibit you from taking orders or money over the phone. Technology nowadays have invented devices like«SQUARE» where you can manually punch orsers in a secure payment with debit cards. This way if they don’t show you still are not at a loss. Once I alerted the staff they finally placed my order. This was a ghetto type move from a business standpoint. Get with the program guys. Make your money without fear!!!
