Want a quick bite to eat on the way to my flight got a pretzel with cheese. The cheese was almost cold and the pretzel was hard. The staff was unhelpful and disorganized.

Proof that locally owned and run with care will outshine chains every time, this lovely little café delivers good food prepared with care. Did a wonderful turkey lettuce wrap for little GI me. Great hospitality.

At a tiny regional airport like Yampa Valley(Hayden, CO), you don’t expect even average food, let alone really good, unique options and great service. We arrived for our flight early and brought along snacks just in case there were no good food options; however, coming through security, we smelled something amazing and found Way Station right on the other side. It’s a tiny little stand/restaurant — you can either order at the walk-up counter or at the bar where they have seating as well. We went to the bar, gave our order, and found a table. The waitresses working were nice enough to give us big cups of water(for free) and to bring everything to our table. They were incredibly friendly — it was nice to have that last little bit of small-town atmosphere before going back to the city! On to the most important part… I ordered a jalapeño elk braut with chips. First, who would expect to see something like that on a small-town airport menu? The braut was huge(yeah yeah yeah…) and it tasted great — there was definitely a kick to it, but luckily it also came with grilled peppers and onions on top to take away some of the heat. I also added ketchup and mustard just because I’m a baby when it comes to spicy foods. I really enjoyed it though and was happy to have something different! The chips were also one of the nicer brands — I can’t remember what they were now, but they were some sort of kettle-cooked chips, available in a few different flavors. At $ 10, the braut/chip combo seemed like a great deal to me. My boyfriend got the french dip with chips. It was also tasty — there was a lot of meat on the sandwich and the bread seemed fresh. When dipped in the au jus, it did get pretty mushy, which was disappointing. It also could’ve used some sort of sauce or other flavor. I personally preferred my elk braut, but the french dip was also a nice, different option and it seemed to be good-quality meat. We also saw some people eating the pulled pork sandwiches, which looked good and were huge! The pizzas were also very popular, although they did take a little longer to cook. Sadly, we didn’t try any of the cookies although they really did look good. We knew we’d be eating Delta’s Biscoff cookies on the plane though!
