The sushi here is good and I usually go when it is Monday or Tuesday for the half priced special. However, the servers act like you are inconveniencing them by being there and the sushi takes 30+ minutes to come out even when there is no one else in the place.

I don’t understand a wait of over 30 minutes for sushi, when there’s only two occupied booths in the restaurant. I like the food & the price, but it always takes forever. Today was the worse though! I actually got up to get for a glass of water after I had waited for 10 minutes & saw customers around me being served. For the first time, I actually walked out without eating. The waitress looked surprised I was leaving. Still hungry & very frustrated.

This was the worst experience at a sushi restaurant that I’ve ever had. You’d think that with four children, one of whom was a baby, that there would be some urgency to the service. But then you’d be wrong. There was ample seating in the restaurant, but it took 10 minutes to seat us. It took another 15 minutes for them to ask for our drink orders. That’s when we should have left. The food was brought out haphazardly at seemingly random intervals. The sushi was mediocre and very difficult to eat with chopsticks as it fell apart easily. Service was slow and surly. It takes a pretty special place to make one’s day worse for having visited it. This restaurant fits the bill.

well I went there with my daughter and her friend for lunch… We Ordered 5 orders of rolls… not a huge amount… I asked if she would wrap up what we didnt finish and was told because they were lunch specials… they will not allow me to take them with us… I was a regular customer but will not be going back ever… they lost a great customer that day

While the sushi is fresh and affordable, the service is very slow. If you want hibachi you’re safe but if you’re after sushi or sashimi, it’s over an hour wait. Make sure if you try this place that you won’t need to be anywhere immediately afterwards. I guarantee that you’ll be late.

Went here for date night the other week because a co worker said it was delicious. Service was a little slow(and it wasn’t that busy), but it was so worth it. We had a great meal and the portions were incredible! I had the chicken teriyaki and also we split a california roll. Was very clean inside and had a lovely time.

We always enjoy it here. Quite delicious. Great hibachi or sushi. Nice atmosphere. Love the Sapoporo. Prices are reasonable. Unusual as it may seem B Y O B or full selection. We are always happy we came here. Full theatrics with the habachi seating. You can choose to sit at a sunken table if you don’t opt for the habachi.

Loved it!!! Great, very friendly wait staff! Sushi rolls were delicious… in hindsight we should have bought more. Will definitely return to eat again! Restaurant was very clean with a good ambiance.

Came here w/my girlfriend on Tuesday for dinner when they coincidently had«half off» sushi. We were greeted by an older guy who RUDELY took our order, and treated us like we never had sushi before. After a 20−25minute wait we got our food. The food was decent. Nothing to brag about, our rolls were cold but still tasted decent. Being hungry we ordered a variety of sushi rolls and ended up not finishing them. We asked the waiter for the check, a box to take our leftovers home and to our surprise he said they do not allow«take out because it’s half off sushi today, which is almost like all you can eat.» Thats ridiculous! We’re here paying for our food and cannot take our leftovers home. I told him that’s the first time I heard of such a weird policy and he angrily replied«What do you mean it’s weird?!» First off, fall back on the attitude dude. It’s understandable to not allow people to order take out and leave on half off days. But we sat down, ordered what we wanted, couldn’t finish our food and asked to take it home. Regardless, if I ordered more food and took it back home it would be more business and money for them! I should’ve left without tipping but being generous we left leaving 15%. If there were sushi bars better than average in this area I’d leave these guys 1 star. Since they’re the only ones with AVERAGE sushi around here, I’m leaving 2 for PITY. These guys are retarded and the service blows donkey balls. I’m surprised they’re still in business with that kind of mindset. Last time we’re EVER coming here!

We went on a Sunday evening. It was quiet with most of the activity taking place in the open hibachi area. My boyfriend and I opted for the more tranquil, private dining area sectioned off to the side. Our servers were attentive and the food was satisfactory. The passionfruit sake martini was soft and sweet. The vegetable tempura was very crispy, yet soft in all the right places. i enjoyed the variety of veggies that was served to me, my favorite being the sweet potato tempura and the broccoli. The chicken katsu was on par. The breading was perfect, as was the dipping sauce, but the texture of the chicken left much to be desired as it tasted especially chewy that night. The gyozas were as good as I expected them to be, although I suspected they were not the vegetable ones we ordered. We paid a very good price for dinner for satisfactory food and ambience. I enjoyed the traditional feel of the restaurant, although I disliked squeezing past the bar area to get to my seat. I currently reside in Yeadon as of this review and I would recommend Shogun as a destination for Japanese cuisine, especially for the mixed drinks with sake if you live within or near the area.

This is my favorite sushi in all of Pennsylvania. I am there at least once a week and I travel about 25 minutes to get there. Half priced sushi on Monday and Tuesday is a real game changer, but I would also pay full price for these rolls. I love the shrimp tempora, dragon roll, and rainbow roll. I get them every time and each and every time they are consistently delicious. It’s also BYOB, like as if they needed to do anything to make this place any better. BYOB and the best sushi in town = an amazing chill date spot. The service is slow though, but I get it because they have like two guys rolling the sushi by hand for the entire restaurant. It’s also a family owned business with it’s kinks but I would much rather support them than some chain sushi place. Do yourself a favor and go here, I bet you will keep coming back.

This review is for their Monday & Tuesday ½ off sushi only! I think it’s a great deal. You have $ 2-$ 3 priced nigiris which are relatively fresh — obviously not the best sushi I’ve ever had but does it meet the price, yes. On top of that, they’re byob no corkage fee! You also have $ 2 – 4 priced hand cut rolls and also hand rolls, as well as a few select $ 5 special rolls such as Spider and Rainbow roll. Dinner for two amounted to roughly $ 30 before tip, and I will mention we probably didn’t need our last two rolls, but alas I am a fatass. Solid choice to get your sushi fix in the area, but not break your wallet. Like other reviews state, service is usually terribly slow. The service was pretty good last night, we didn’t wait too long for our rolls and my server was very friendly. Would return for this deal

Came in around 9:00 on a Friday night and the place was as dead as a doornail. That should have been the first clue to run. We chose hibachi and were seated a hibachi table where an employee was sitting at the other end wrapping silverware and staring at us. We sat there for easily 10 – 15 minutes in awkward silence, and nobody bothered to even take our drink order. A chef kept staring at us from the kitchen door window. The whole thing was so creepy and awkward that we got up, left, and took our business elsewhere.

Went there with my wife on Sunday for dinner. Ordered 3 dishes of sushi. They looked good but tasted not fresh. Just better than what you can find in the grocery store. Didn’t try Hibachi, have no idea whether it is good or not. If you have high expectation about great sushi, try somewhere else. I still haven’t found a place that better than Sushi Land, in Bryn Mawr. I would recommend go there instead for authentic and fresh sushi.

My family and I ate here for the first time tonight. I’m giving it one star because the service we received tonight WASHORRIBLE! There were no waiters, nobody was in there at prime dinner time on a Sunday. We ordered our food and we had to wait longer than we should’ve waited for it, and by the time we got it, it was ice cold! We did send it back, but they should’ve gotten it right the first time.

What a wonderful dinner experience here at Shogun 3. We came here tonight for my son’s birthday. The three of us ordered Hibachi, I had filet mignon and shrimp, my husband had chicken and filet mignon and our son had filet mignon and lobster, everything from the miso soup, salad with ginger dressing to the fried rice, sauces, vegetables and shrimp was outstanding. The service was wonderful and the woman were very attentive and very nice. Our Hibachi Chef was very good and very nice, performed a great show too. After we all finished the server brought out a birthday surprise for my son it was tempura fried ice cream sundae with a sparkler and she banged a gong and everyone at the table sang happy birthday, what a wonderful ending to the night and my son had a nice birthday dinner. Thank you to the owners and staff for making this a special night for our son. We will definitely be back! Highly Recommend! A great family Japanese Steakhouse!

A nice little establishment in the great neighborhood(admittedly biased) of Havertown, PA. On this particular visit we treated the boys to a Hibachi style dinner. There in lies the best part, getting a kick out of watching the boys enjoying the show put on by the chef. We started with a bowl of Edamame. They are steamed and well seasoned with sea salt. Heck, the 19 month old devoured the protein filled beans with me. The 4 year old has reached the age where he feels the color green is better suited for his favorite football team than food. The fare is standard Hibachi. I have had better, I have had worse. I really wish that the service was a little bit better. The entire staff could have been friendlier. Maybe we caught them on an off night(hardly an excuse), but it appears as if this a continued trend on Unilocal reviews. All in all though, I recommend this as a nice change of pace dining event and experience that the entire family will enjoy.

I used to eat here a lot, like almost everyweek. But once I stopped going after getting tired of their horrible service I literally never went back for about 2 years or so. unfortunately since there is NO other sushi place in havertown I decided to give shogun another try hoping their service had gotten better in 2years. and I was absolutely WRONG! although they offer half price rolls for lunch and 2 dinners a week, Im never going back in. everyone does not speak english nor has smily face. there is no other japanese restaurants I have been to had this kind of people working or service. and I found that the place was pretty quiet on tuesday night around 7pm when they had half off rolls special. This tells you WHY

Oh, Shogun! I can appreciate that you have business savvy and want to be packed to the gills all 7 days of the week. Mo money, mo money, mo money! I get it. And I get that this is why you have ½ priced sushi Mondays and Tuesdays… but oh my, the wait time and the service have gotten completely horrendous! My husband and I come here once a month on a Monday night for their special. We’ve enjoyed it for almost three years now but we may have to look for other options. Either that or eat a little snack before coming so we won’t be salivating when nearby tables are served, or loudly banging our chopsticks on the table. In order to stave off our hunger this time, we ordered salads… which were pretty darned awesome. The chef salad has shrimp and crabmeat over mixed greens and tomatoes, with a ginger soy house dressing. It could use a little more meat on top for $ 5, but the dressing was really tasty so I didn’t make a big deal out of it. Their sushi is good and more people were bound to find out about the ½ price nights. It’s just getting crazy crowded. So, if you’re reading this, have a heart and don’t go to Shogun on Monday nights… ever! I want to be in and out in an hour and a half tops! Just kidding… or am I?

The sushi gets a 5 the service gets a 1. Be prepared to wait especially if you go for half priced sushi on Monday or Tuesday. The Sushi here is great and by far the best I have had in the area. The Hibachi is tasty you are given a pretty large portion. The sushi tastes really fresh the crunch rolls are really crunchy. There are lots of white tuna options on the menu which is a favorite. The spider rolls and tempura shrimp rolls are great. Really good sushi and cheap on Mondays and Tuesdays, average prices for sushi on other days. I really cant say anything bad about the food. The service on the other hand… The service here is lacking the servers aren’t rude but when eating here you tend to feel like your are on an island trying to flag down a plane when trying to get their attention. Once you get your food they will not come back to check on you. Drink refills ha you better start with smoke signals. If the dining room is full and they ask if you want to sit at a hibachi table and eat dinner try to avoid that. I would normally give them a pass cause it is really busy on Mon and Tues, but the service is the same on normal days as well. Once you ask them for something they generally bring it quickly though. If you go on Mon or Tues do not go hungry you will wait about an average of 45 mins from arrival to taking your first bite.
