Mapes Manoa True Value Hardware

Next time I need Mason jars I will go elsewhere. I called for a price on a case of the quart size and specified that. The man on the phone told me the price of them was $ 10.01. I remembered it because it was such an odd number. When I went to get them within the hour of the phone call, I was charged $ 15.89. This
I expected to be charged tax, but the pricing was way off.
It felt dishonest to me despite the possibility of an honest mistake, because it happened to me before in another True Value close by this one.
I went to pick up an item and the tag where the item was said one price… the tag also had the name of the item on it as well. However when I got the item to the register it rung up as a higher price.
I prefer to shop the smaller and local businesses, but won’t be giving this one my business anymore.
The two stars are for the basic friendliness of the staff.

Since I prefer to shop locally and support small-​business owners, I go here instead of Home Depot or Lowe’s to buy hardware. Plus, it’s close to my home. I’m always able to find what I need here, including hard-​to-​find items that many stores don’t carry.
Another convenience is that they carry an impressive array of household goods: Rubbermaid items, cleaning supplies, etc. They even have a toy department! The staff is nice, too. I’ll keep shopping here!

I’ve had mixed experiences here. On one hand, the staff is pretty friendly and helpful. The prices are higher than Lowes, Home Depot, etc. It’s an ok place if you know exactly what you need. However, I went in here recently and was appalled by the rodent problem. You can see them crawling behind the bags of bird food, which are spilled everywhere, and every single bag is torn. Rodent fecal matter is all over the floor. I spoke to the manager about it, he acknowledged the issue and said «we have cats in here at night». 80% of the issue could be solved with a dustpan and a broom. I have trouble with a store that doesn’t take pride in basic cleanliness and upkeep. I like supporting the local businesses but I might have to wait awhile to return.

There is something about the pungent smell of fertilizer, cramped shelves and difficult to figure product grouping that I love about this place. I feel like I’m scoring one for the home team whenever I come here instead of Huge Depot or Blowe’s. though I’m sure true value has some corporate types that drive nice cars to vacation homes thanks to people like me willing to pay a few extra bucks to help save the town.
Anyway, the people are nice and generally helpful and the prices aren’t that much different than the bigger places. This true value is pretty close to home for me too.

Perfect around the corner Hardware store. If I don’t feel like going the extra couple of miles to the Home Depot this place always meets my expectations. Some items might be a buck or two more expensive here but I’ll gladly pay for the convenience. The staff is always helpful and friendly. If you are in a pinch this True Value will save the day.

Horrible store. Extremely High prices. Terrible selection. Useless workers. Don’t go unless it’s your last resort, and even then, don’t go.

The big box stores have had the home improvement market sewn up for years. Everybody flocks to Home Depot or Lowes. They have the advantages of choice and often price but service is often a problem. It really hard to find one of those guys in the orange apron!
If I just need something small I don’t want to fight the big box battle. True Value fills a need that I appreciate. If I need screws, nails, light bulbs, a garden hose, small tool, windshield washer fluid, Christmas lights, etc. etc. this is where I go. They have a nice big parking lot. If I need help I usually don’t have a problem finding a warm body. I may not get a huge choice but for the kind of stuff I’m searching for it’s not a problem. This place really fills a need for me and lots of other folks.
