Why would anyone not a Hastings resident even bother to review this place — it’s a diner, no more and no less. And as a diner, it is absolutely meets expectations. Great eggs, snappy servers, and hot coffee. If you want anything else, go some where else. Whenever I walk in, the waitresses and kitchen staff know just want I want — only need to confirm quantity — and I can depend on great egg sandwiches, waffels, or stuffed shell dinners. Just a little bit of Queens in Hastings…

Gold old fashion diner! Their food is not spectacular, just good old standard diner food. I felt they were a little pricey, but the diner is located in Hastings, so perhaps we’re paying for the real estate. Overall it was pricey and OK.

Gross. Just totally gross! I visited this establishment«reluctantly» on January 8th of this year. My wife and i had some time to kill before a friends birthday party so we stopped in here. The waitress and her partner were so involved in watching Jeopardy that everything we asked for was a bother. Didn’t matter because like I said earlier, it was totally gross. Upon leaving I told my wife to take a good look around because there would be no way in hell we’d ever be back. The place was dirty with expired condiments and the food was not edible. Next time I think I’ll watch Jeopardy. At my home!

Typical diner food. The staff could be friendlier.

Very nice, clean, simple, old style diner without a stupid theme. Very good food at very reasonable prices, nice attentive servers. I’m not sure why anyone would blame a restaurant for«a fly» landing on their food, unless it is overrun with flies,(its not) or how an omelette is subpar, yet Alexander W recommends you eat breakfast there«no matter what».(They have fantastic corn flakes and decent milk I guess). Excellent turkey club, fresh coleslaw, fantastic Balboa sandwich, nice burgers and great pancakes. Six people, everyone in agreement, its a nice place, food is good. I take away a star because parking in Hastings sucks the fat one.

I don’t know about the other food, but the milkshakes are great!

Gross! Not worth the time you spend here. The food is horrible and a fly landed on me mid way through my breakfast.

You should pass on this one. It’s a pity. If they would just do the basics, clean setting, good basic food and adequate service, I’d be thrilled.

I’d really give it 2 ½ stars. Good place. Not great. The food is good & cheap, friendly staff, the only thing I’d say is be careful when ordering by phone. On more than one occasion they’d screw up an order even after I clearly spelled out what it was I wanted. It was as if someone there(not sure if it’s the people who answer the phone or the cook the order was relayed to), didn’t listen to me. So be warned: If you order by phone, be very sure to check your order before you leave the restaurant.

I drop by here every so often for breakfast whenever I feel the urge. Pancakes are tasty, huge and filling. I usually have to take them home in a takeout bag. The French toast is really unimpressive. Nothing more than white bread dipped in egg and griddled in butter. The sausage links are not the prettiest to look at, but they’re delicious. The atmosphere is a little divey… but the waitresses are really friendly and the food is super cheap.

I was very excited to check out this diner, but its food is very bland. Stick with the diner standards like burgers. Anything else is pretty dicey, especially anything that has vegetables, fish, or meat that isn’t ground up. On the bright side, it’s not very expensive and it’s right in the middle of Hastings’s main commercial strip.

Good solid diner food and low prices. The place is little but the food tastes kind of like home. It really gives the feel of the local diner in a small town — like it is. Nothing’s ever blown me away but nothing’s ever completely disappointed me either. Definitely doesn’t taste like it’s all frozen stuff coming out of the kitchen and service is indeed friendly. It’s a little cramped so you probably can’t go in with a huge party but if you’re looking for someplace to go in Hastings with just a couple of people this is a good option.

It was the worst dinner i have ever been to. DIRTYDIRTYDIRTY!!! The underground restroom had what looked like feces all over including the walls. The waitress was rude and could not get our order correct. I wouldn’t let my dog eat here. Stay away.

Great little diner on a charming street. The food is your basic diner fare, burgers, fries, steaks, anything you’d want for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The crowd is a mixture of folks from mohawked 20-something to retirees. Service is friendly, food is good, prices are great; what’s not to love?!?

Typical average diner, yet it is an institution for those who have lived in Hastings all their life. Best for breakfast, especially after a long night out. Lunch and dinner are average. Prices are cheap and food is decent at best, exactly what you would expect from looking at the place. Service is prompt and friendly.

It really upsets me to have to write a review like this, especially after having a good experience the first time around. We sat down at a booth, and we were given glasses of water(three of us). My water was fine. One friend had lipstick stains on his glass — like full on upper and lower lip. The other friend had a gnat/fly in her water, dead and floating on top. So we told the bus boy, and he gave us new water(that we didn’t drink — felt it was safer to go with soda). Then the food came. The toast had a huge, black hair on top of it, stuck on because of the butter. Super nasty! We were going to say something, but the employees were arguing and yelling in the kitchen area, so we didn’t see anyone after our food was served. I think I would be scared to eat there again after the gnat, lipstick and hair in my food …

My fiancée and I ate here when we were considering moving to Hastings and needed to find the train station. The décor sucks(I’m pretty sure the booth was ripped) and the place was full of old people(no offense to them). We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, and if there were 6 people in the place, that was a lot. I don’t even recall what we ordered, but I do remember thinking that it was a depressing and dumpy place to eat, and the food wasn’t even good diner food. We have since moved from Hastings and never ate there again. I’m not sure why other reviewers are so nostalgic for the place, but if you enjoy eating food that you could make better yourself at home, this is your place.

I grew up in Hastings and ate here at least once a week. The décor may change but the food never does. Reliably mediocre diner food at a reasonable price. I wouldn’t visit Hastings without eating here.

Usually what you expect from the classic American diner is cleanliness, good service and decent quality food and good coffee that gets refilled before it is empty. The restaurant is clean(except for the bathrooms*), the service good and the coffee gets refilled. However don’t go here for the food. The fries are always overcooked and dry, they have a veggie wrap which was a greasy mess, and the omelette’s are tasteless and the coffee is watery and weak. Even the grilled cheese sandwiches that my kids love were overdone. This is based on several visits(its the only diner in town and until I discovered a better one nearby I went a few times with my kids). If there was even half decent competition nearby this place wouldn’t last. * The bathrooms are frequently lacking in hand towels and the dryer seems to either not work or be turned on permanently.
