I’m so upset. I order for pick up– I asked for yellowtail lover roll and salmon lover roll both rolls came completely raw. Both of them are supposed to be grill — that’s what it said on the menu. The lady on the phone refused to accept responsibility. Saying«some people prefer it like that». Wtf ??? Bad restaurant ! Bad service ! Don’t order they don’t deserve your business !

Great place for Japanese food. I love the chicken teriyaki box on the lunch menu, good amount of food for the price.

Eel was the , if you’re on a date share the eel if not well, shit happens and more eel for you and life is good. Salty Mexican aka the Mexican salmon roll is better than life itself, it’ll make you forget your date and wake up and not vote for Trump because Mexicans make the best sushi like the one you are having now. In case you want buffalo sauce they definitely don’t have it but they have spicy mayo and it’s just as good. Long story short live your life, eat well like at JMARU and the rest is history #MicDrop

Despite being quite busy and chaotic, the staff managed to serve us in a timely manner and made to perfection. Sushi chef even sent over samples compliments of the house to make up for some of the wait. We enjoyed the fresh sushi very much and will be coming back.

I’m so happy to have a sushi place here in Hasbrouck Heights. I’ve been eating from JMaru, since they first opened up. I was also delighted to see some Korean dishes on their menu. No place around delivers Korean cuisine for the exception of JMaru. My favorite dish is the Yook Gae Jang. It’s so spicy and so, so, so good! Add a side of bulgogi and kimchi and you’re all set. Another favorite of mine would be the Spicy Seafood Udon. They’re always gracious enough to substitute the Udon for Ramen noodles. The staff is friendly and they always remember a familiar face and your name. The sushi is of high quality and fresh. Their salmon rolls are: so: yummy :) Thanks for taking care of me! — Lisa

2nd Time around I wasnt so pleased. hey theres hits and misses, The Kani Salad was not spicy and was mostly lettuce and random veggies – not much kani! what a let down! And my spicy tuna roll was nothing to rave about – in fact it was pretty small. My friend was happy with his philly roll, but this time it seemed to be a bit smaller too.

So this is just another local joint that doesn’t stick out in any way. Prices are cheap though, but that’s about it. Bento box is the way to go, you get a lot of food that’s great for your wallet. The bulgogi, which is Korean beef, was tender like it should be, but was extremely salty! The ginger dressing on the salad tasted odd to me but not bad either. My favorite had to be the fried rice, It was made fresh, with pieces of fresh vegetables, eggs and right amount of seasonings for an extra $ 1. Now, what really made me raise an eyebrow was the fact that I was served an expired soda from a can. Just made me question how often they check on their products. Also, to add, whoever is doing inventory shouldn’t be there since a sushi spot had no Sriracha sauce, Yes you read that correct, NO Sriracha! My sushi just wasn’t the same without that magical spicy sauce. Plus, my California roll was uneven, some pieces were missing cucumbers or avocados while others had it. Even though we were the only guests in the restaurant, they barely checked in on us, just seemed like they didn’t care. It’s a small restaurant, so I wouldn’t suggest throwing a party or going with 10 people for that matter. Overall, it’s a spot to grab a quick meal for a nice price.

I ordered a lunch special 2 pieces of sushi one with eel and avocado and shrimp and avocado. I was very disappointed when I picked up my food and went back to my office. You need a microscope to see the eel and shrimp and all you can taste is avocado. When I called to complain they said well that’s how we make it here. I’m not paying a happy meal price at $ 10 lunch special with tax. Very disappointed and not returning again

So I was in need of an alternative sushi place because my go-to sushi place was on a two hour lunch break; I didn’t want to wait. That’s how I got to J Maru & glad that I did! I liked seeing patrons already there when I got there about 4ish, to me that is a good sign… The restaurant is clean, the staff is nice, attentive, & the food is great. I am not sure why I was questioning this place!!! The mango tango is my new favorite! Also ordered the King of the Blvd. First the mango had all different flavors happening, a real party in your mouth! The King was great too, both were great size portions. Side note: The town is super cute, Parking isn’t too bad, good area Definitely will be back soon!

For a small town sushi place it’s pretty good. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. I tried the salmon teriyaki bento box and an order of seaweed salad for lunch. I did take out. The things that stood out? The tempura and the dumplings were crisp not soggy after sitting in the packaging until I got back to the office. The ginger dressing for the salad was one of the best I’ve had. A nice twist was the orange sweetness to the dressing. It was a nice size portion for a lunch box. Averagely priced $ 9.95. The seaweed salad was also one of the best I’ve had. It was fresh and had just the right amount of dressing and seasoning. I often find seaweed salad to hot for my pallet but this was mellow and really delicious. Another nice touch was they included chopsticks without having to ask for them as well as an extra little plastic cup for my soy sauce. It’s little things like this I appreciate especially when doing a take out order! I’ll be back and I’ll be bringing my husband and daughter too!

Although there are many sushi places near my work, I tend to always find myself traveling back to the town I live in to have Maru sushi! They’re portions are incredible for their prices on their lunch menu. I’ve meet friends here on multiple occasions per my request and they’ve also been very impressed. I love their salad and their miso soup(usually a tough decision for me to pick!). I also love their spicy salmon sauce, although some days it is spicier than others the consistency is perfect and you can always ask for it on the side instead of on top of your roll if you’re unsure. The staff is super friendly and understand you’re there on lunch along with you’re time constraint. They are diligent and have lots of attention to detail. Check this place out for some real good sushi.

Amazing sushi! We are a picky couple but we loved everything about this place. Only thing I found strange was that they charged us extra to substitute the salmon in a philly roll for smoked salmon. We always prefer smoked and have not been charged before. But this was a small price to pay, the fish was fantastic and the rolls are large. They also have a great prices lunch menu.

Decided to give this sushi place a try… First impressions… décor is mediocre for a sushi place… it only seats about 15 – 20 people total… staff was friendly and welcoming. Menu selection… first things first they don’t serve alcohol… that’s not a bad thing but if you want to drink here you can’t order alcohol… wait time for food was fairly short; food arrived approximately 15 minutes after initial order… Food — fish was good and presentation was good as well… the volcano roll is decent(there are two volcano rolls here so be aware of that if you order it)… The fish was good but I felt like it was lacking in certain areas(certain pieces were very squishy and the texture was off on certain kinds of sashimi(the tako was very very hard for example)… Overall a decent place for decent sushi… I personally think there are better places and I think this place is slightly overpriced for the quality of food you get.

Went here for lunch with my mom and it was another«meh» Japanese restaurant. The décor was not that great, some Christmas decoration was still hanging inside. It was a really dark and small place. Meh. My mom got Dumpling&Rice Cake Soup. The rice cakes were hard, no moisture and the soup was pretty bland. And I got Yaki Udon… The noodle was not cooked enough. A bit hard to chew. The sauce was ok, but not that great. Not my favorite. And for the price, the portion was really small in my opinion. I understand it’s a lunch special deal, cheaper than dinner and all, but I believe it should still be a decent sized«meal». …So if you’re hungry, you will still be hungry after eating lunch here. Also, I thought the service was ok, but when we tried to ask for more chopsticks, the waitress abruptly said«your orders are being made in the kitchen so it takes more time than just making sushi.» …What? We never complained about that. What was that? Anyway, overall, I would hesitate to go back. If I ever get a chance I might try their sushi, but I’m not excited about it.

I have frequented J Maru when they first opened and I have to say they were on point. There was one order that was messed up and I decided not to go back, until today almost 2 years later. I ordered 3 very simple things to test out their food again a spicy tuna roll a spicy tuna love roll and a spicy tuna salad I have experienced sushi a lot better than this at my normal spot that just recently reopened. The spicy tuna was not even mixed with the sauce, it looks like all they did was chop the tuna up and squirt some sauce on top of it. Both rolls were unevenly cut, so i had 1 paper thin roll and one giant fat roll which is not a pleasure to eat. The spicy tuna had no flavor at all, it was a big disappointment. On to the spicy tuna salad. The menu on their website describes it as such«tuna, crab, masago, cucumber, and radish mixed with mayo and spicy sauce». To me, that translate into a Kani salad with spicy tuna on top and that is what I was expecting. When I picked up my order it was maybe about 3 ounces of that mixture explained above on top of a green salad. When questioned about what the menu said to what I received, I could not get an appropriate answer. Now that I have given J Maru another shot, I will defiantly not be going back there again. Very expensive, lack luster, and incorrectly described menu items is what is making this decision extremely easy for me.

My girlfriend loves sushi like LOVESSUSHI. We’ve been on this all out hunt in New Jersey to find the best sushi place. We’re both from California — the land of great sushi — this sounds a bit arrogant so I apologize. But there just isn’t much competition for sushi places in NJ so the quality as a result isn’t good. We keep an open mind when trying new places around New Jersey. J Maru is a local spot we decided to try out. We ordered the following: — Udon with shrimp tempura — Sushi lunch special — 8 pieces of sushi and a California roll The udon was kinda bland and you only get two pieces of tempura. The sushi lunch special was good. The fish was fresh and California roll was decent. Off the top of my head I think you get 4 different kinds of fish for the sushi. On a side note — If you love ginger and wasabi you’ll need to ask for 2nd and 3rds. J Maru was decent, semi affordable and I think we’ll make it back if we don’t want to go far for sushi.
