Edit: It looks like my initial review appears under this one. As an update from yesterday’s debacle, it is clear why they wanted my elderly mother to be here by herself. Turns out the coil didn’t need replaced, it was a simple repair. While R-410A can break down, if a minimal amount leaks it can be topped off rather than replaced. Avoid this place place; not only do the prices change, they recommend unneeded work.

Shameless Rip-Off Artists! Double-Billers! We stupidly bought a home warranty with American Home Shield and unfortunately, Express is who they sent out to replace our evaporator coil and plenum. They actually ripped us off, and left the job unfinished in the attic. We found this out when two weeks later, we had a blown capacitor and Express was unavailable to come out. We then called another company, and thankful they were honest and professional and quickly completed the work left over from Express and replaced the capacitor. After requesting and never receiving an itemized, professional invoice from Express for the job,(and not just a vague field ticket, we kept getting excuses and they blamed the office girl). We got suspicious and did some calling around and discovered we could have had the warranty job done for hundreds less, even without a home warranty. Yes! The warranty cost us more due to this crooked company and their double billing scam! They didn’t provide an invoice because they didn’t want us seeing that they double billed and lied to the home warranty company. The Express tech told AHS our three ton unit needed eighteen pounds of R22, when it and the lines won’t even hold that much! To make matters worse, Express price gouged $ 70 per pound for R22 refrigerant, when the going rate is roughly $ 40.00. A man in the office claiming«It’s so expensive because R22 is not made anymore.» UHM, yes actually it is! Read your EPA memos! Production of R22 has only been stepped down in recent years, but it won’t be totally phased out until 2020, then everyone must convert or retrofit for new systems or substitute refrigerants like R-410A. You can buy a 30 pound canister for $ 350, or cheaper at your local supply house if you are certified. So hey! Next time you try to take advantage of a home warranty customer and rip someone off, you might want to find out if their father is a refrigeration engineer and knows quite a bit about how their system works! I even was certified at one time myself working for him for over a decade. Super pissed and reporting Express and AHS to the BBB and the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Home warranties are nothing but a SCAM! I’m looking at you American Home Shield and Express Heating & Air! Double-billing, Price-Gouging, Lying and Poor Quality Work!
