El Portal is my family’s and friend’s favorite mexican joint in town. The food is delicious, and always HOT HOT HOT. The service is polite and fast. The décor is a festival for my eyes. I never knew there were so many colors that came in neon. The place is packed on Sundays, but the rest of the week it it pretty easy to get a table upon arrival.
My only issue is the salsa. Last summer when I was home and my friends and I ate at El Portal the salsa was fresh, and obviously homemade. Last night when I dinned there the salsa was from a jar, and someone had poured tabasco sauce in it… for flavor? I don’t know.
Everything else is great. Just order the queso.
