Just went there to celebrate some good news with some special friends and everything about the evening was perfect. Great, friendly service, loved everything we were served(especially the mussels). Don’t skip dessert! Best crème brûlée ever! It was a Wednesday night, so it was«open mike» night. So fun! We stayed until closing!

Great place. Alot of activities throughout the week. Bar is small and the menu is limited otherwise it would get a 5.

Really cute place. Rustic and quaint but such a great atmosphere. The live music was so much fun and the food was surprisingly delicious for a tiny little pub. I had the raviolis and my husband had the fish and chips. Both were incredibly tasty. If you are passing through the area and this place is open, I HIGHLYRECOMMEND stopping in and grabbing a bite. You wont be disappointed.

Just had a great time at the skunk hollow tavern. Best burger I’ve had in a while(organic Vermont beef). Great vibe, can’t wait to go back.

We stopped here for dinner on our way up to VT from NYC. Dinner was okay but not great. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms(stuffed that day with broccoli and brie) which had so much promise but didn’t deliver on flavor. For dinner I had the fish and chips and my husband had the chicken Carlos. The breading on the fish came off the fish too easily and was vaguely soggy. The Chicken Carlos was decent but didn’t live up to its hype. The best part was the dessert — some sort of toffee blondie with cappuccino ice cream on top(really two desserts we combined). We both agreed they would be mediocre on their own but together were delicious. When we were leaving there was live music starting up. I can definitely see if I lived locally enjoying that often.

Zero stars really. Never been, won’t ever go. Called to see if they would be showing playoff football but apparently«they don’t believe in TV» and like to hang up on people. A simple«no» would have been suffient. I doubt this will get read becuase I’m guessing they don’t believe in the internet either.

This place is very cozy. The food is really good and the staff are polite and inviting. I love the atmosphere and would definitely come back again when next we are driving back to CT from VT.

The one good thing i can say about this place is the atmosphere, but my husband & I both had fruit flies on our plates. We both had burgers that weren’t anything special. We most likely will never go back.

Great place. I was told by a local that it was a definite on Wednesday evenings. It’s open mic and you will never know who you might see get up and sing. I think there were about 5 different people that performed. Get a burger with mozzarella cheese. It’s juicy and reminds you of a classic. Atmosphere tops it off.

Great local hangout. After setting up our campsite 20 mins. down the road we headed here on the recommendation of the park ranger. When we first walked in there was a band setting up and the place was packed(it was Friday night). On a search for the restroom I realized there was a whole upstairs! The upstairs is completely different than the downstairs. My bf and I had a very nice dinner — it was getting late so we were the last party to leave the upstairs. They started to blow out the candles and pack up other tables, but we didn’t feel rushed. It was a great atmosphere. To start we shared a salad and soup — both were ample portions and were very good. I had a summery cocktail that hit the spot. Main dishes were also good — we both got hamburgers. Overall a great find. I liked the different vibes going on. We could hear and feel the music from our table upstairs and that worked for us.

There were so many things about place that I loved! The atmosphere was wonderful, a bit casual but still intimate on the 1st floor. More formal and still very intimate on the 2nd floor, and a very cozy feeling overall. My girlfriends and I went all out and tried many dishes during our dining adventure. We had the mussels and stuffed mushrooms to start. Both were great. We also ordered a bread basket to soak up all of the wonderful mussel juices, and the bread was an awesome variety and delicious. I had a dirty vodka martini to start and asked for extra dirty, but I really didn’t care for it. It tasted like really strong vodka and I like my martinis to taste like I’m sipping olive juice from the jar. I sent it back and asked for more dirt but it came back nearly the same. So it goes, I grinned and beared it. Our entrees were next. We shared the cajun meatloaf — okay, tasted like something I could easily whip up at home. The porkchops, tough and raw in the middle, and the chicken leaves balinese — amazing! The entrees are a little pricey and the quality varied dish to dish, so that was a bit of a bummer. Then came desserts. Wow!!! Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, a heath bar brownie and chocolate cake with raspberries, all out of this world! The table next to us were regulars and talked us into trying the drink special named after them, the ploufftetini, also amazing, and perfect sweetness with our deserts. Overall we were very pleased with the food, the atmosphere was lovely, our waitress was attentive and I would definitely go back the next time I’m in the area. Cheers!

Skunk Hollow Tavern is definitely the place to experience a local Vermont hangout. Stopped by to have some beers and dinner with a colleague. Ordered a pint of Trout River and picked the Chicken Carlos for an entrée. I was not really impressed with the Chicken Carlos as it was simply deep fried chicken and was not very spicy. However, the atmosphere was phenomenal. Everyone here knows each other. Right after dinner time, a live band set up and started playing. Slowly tables were moved to the side, and then some of them outside, as all of the locals started dancing. I enjoyed a few more beers and the music/dancing.

If you check my profile, you’ll see I rarely review restaurants, but Skunk Hollow Tavern is taking me out of hibernation! Everyone was extremely friendly, especially Gretchen who made phenomenal drinks and treated us like regulars even though it was our first time there. The deviled crab and asparagus cannelloni was excellent, tempered nicely by the cool cucumber salad that we ordered with it. Dinner was the organic, local beef burger and Chicken Carlos — both wonderful. If I were into desserts, there were plenty of tempting offerings, but I can’t report on any of them. I really can’t wait to come back!

Stayed in the vicinity through Xmas 2012. What an amazing little Oldy Worldy Tavern — great beers on tap, full and interesting wine list and a full range of spirits etc. First night(Wednesday) we met the owner Gretchen and other staff and were made to feel like part of the local community eating at the bar, mussels and a burger all cooked to perfection. We made reservations for dinner on the Sunday night, but called in for a nightcap after a disastrous Friday meal at Carpenter & Main in Norwich(completely contradicting an earlier review on here from CN — not sure Lebanon is a metropolis but Hanover’s pretty cool). This time met Carlos and Gretchen’s brother Lou — what a great bunch of people. As for dinner & wine on Sunday Steak & Salad & Chicken Carlos, absolutely perfect amazing wine & what a basket of bread. Gretchen still think the popovers need some work ha ha… That cranberry walnut bread is to die for. All in all this made an Xmas vacation visit from the UK very special… thanks guys!

This venue is a REAL Gastropub, totally unfussy and fine dining it is not! It does offer good solid food at a reasonable price with a bloody good pint of ale. Hailing from the UK I know a good pub or three, so I am always delighted when I visit here that the atmosphere is genuine. Candle lit at night, their bread basket is amazingly fresh and homemade and on this visit the pear… yes pear soup was historic! Out waitress could not have been more jolly and certainly had a good sense of humour. If you like noise with your food then dine downstairs(well it was open mike night) or for a little more privacy ask to sit upstairs. The daily specials are always creative so do ask…

I learned of Skunk Hollow Tavern from Unilocal as I planned my vacation on a little getaway with my wife. From all of the 5 star reviews I read, I had pretty high expectations and expected everything on the menu to be good. We decided to split and order of fish and chips and a ribeye steak that sounded awesome and at $ 27 dollars I expected it to be really good. The fish and chips were delicious but I sent the over priced steak back. I ordered it medium, but it tasted like a wet raw piece of cheap ribeye slathered in corn and chili. I was given a butter knife to try and cut this ligament filled ribeye apart. All of the things I love about ribeye were not present and I was really sad. It was hard to cut, and stringy pieces of ligament were like cutting wires for my butter knife. It had a few completely bland chunks of boiled potato and some sad looking pieces of overcooked broccolini tossed next to them like an afterthought. What a sad dish. I loved the at home family feel of the restaurant but I was really surprised to be charged 5 bucks for a bowl of bread. She asked«would you like to start off with some bread?». At 99% of restaurants its how they ask if you would like to eat some free bread while you wait for food. At the end of the night, all I had paid for was a beer for myself, and my wife had a beer, fish and chips plus we ordered a little desert to go. With tip it was just shy of $ 50 bucks. Normally we would spend around this much at a restaurant where we both ate delicious entrees and paid for both. If you go there, be prepared to be gouged on beer prices. It was over 4 dollars for a bottle of beer. Stay away from the over priced entrees and stick with simple things like burgers or fish and chips. If they ask you for bread and you don’t really want bread, say no because it isn’t free(even though it is delicious).

Wow… this place really is one of those«middle of nowhere» gems! I came across Skunk Hollow on my trip back from Montréal through VT. I was looking for gas, and checked my Tom Tom for any food nearby. After seeing this place with 5 Stars(albeit on 4 reviews), I decided, being in the middle of nowhere, why not stop in for something quick before I finished my drive to New York. … so not expecting anything much better than say McD’s, I was absolutely IMPRESSED by this place. The restaurant(main floor), bar(Back of the main floor), literally candle lite dining room(floor 2 + 3), make up each of the levels of this 17th century house. When we got there, a 4 person band was setting up on the main floor. There music and performance were both on the house and amazing! As for the food, it’s decent. A lot betters than McD’s, but simple and homely. Nothing fancy. Think a decent, fresh cooked burger and fries or fish and chips. They do also have other steaks and fish on the menu, but we went for the burgers($ 12 each) and a beer to enjoy the live band playing 10 ft from where we were sitting. I would definitely advise ANYONE driving past here to stop in for a dinner or even lunch if you could. Very much to gem in the middle of nowhere, untainted by the prejudices of big city life!

I was in VT for a 50 mile mtn. bike race at Ascutney with a bunch of college friends. We lucked into finding this place. The building is historic. It looks like it’s been a local tavern for 200 years. We sat upstairs in the dining room which is nicely done. Everything we had for dinner was great. Waitresses were very friendly. The patron Margarita was perfect. After dinner, we went downstairs to the small tavern. We had some beers and listened to an awesome band. I will return next time I’m in the area.
