The bride and I were in the area so we stopped in, it looked good from the outside. We will always try a true local bakery, there are so few left! We’re giving it 4 stars because, as far as we are concerned, it is very good for what it is. Not fine dining, but very tasty sandwiches and pastries. As is typical with most small non-chain restaurants /bakeries, nothing is labeled as to what it is or how much it costs. So, we got 3 sandwiches — a cuban, pork, and chicken. They heated them in a sandwich press, then added lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Small thin sandwiches on a yummy baguet type roll. This is not a criticism, but if we had known what we were getting(and price) we may have gotten 2 or 3 of each. OK, 3 sandwiches — we also got a tamale, a meat pie type thing, and about 4 pastries. Everything was good, the price for the bag of food was $ 16 and change. As far was we are concerned, this is honest, good food that is not pretentious. If you want a big sandwich from a chain, go to Subway, if you want something different, give this place a try.

I’m a first generation American both of immigrant Cuban parents. I was raised in Miami during the 70’s on thru 2007. Moved up to CT and all I can think of how much I was missing my Cuban food. I have to say their pastries are great but when it comes to their sandwiches, they are not that good. Our kids raised on Cuban food and sandwiches, were disappointed. Its hard to find Cuban bread at our markets along with slices of pork roast which is used for the Cuban sandwich. Their pan con lechon was stingy on the meat… as well as their Cuban sandwich… just not good in that area. BUT pastries are great!

This is no longer the original! Owner died and new Puerto Rican owners there now with no clue of quality baking products! And I’m Puerto Rican! I came from Florida to taste their delicious cakes & treats only to be disappointed! They are deceiving people by keeping the cubanitos name! Sad!

I have never had their sandwiches. They are $ 2. But hey, they might suck, guy before me. However, let me tell you about the pastries. I will illustrate with two stories: 1. Several weeks ago, I was walking back with a few coworkers after lunch and decided to stop. One coworker had to rush back for a meeting, so she handed me $ 5 with the instruction to get her a pastry, any pastry. I figured hey, that’ll cover a pastry or two. So I picked out three delectable looking ones and got myself a coffee. I figured it would run me $ 12-$ 15. Then she rang me up. And it was $ 4.20. THREE gourmet pastries and some awesome Puerto Rican coffee. For four dollars and twenty cents. And, to put the icing on the cake, they were delicious. Like, some of the best I’ve ever had. 2. More recently, several coworkers were going to grab afternoon coffee and went there. I had a meeting and only a ten dollar bill in my pocket, but asked them to return with a pastry and coffee for me. They came back and handed me $ 3 change. So, more normal, right? Wrong. They bought coffee and pastries for MYENTIREDEPARTMENT. So many pastries that they came in a box. For $ 7. And my canoli-filled-with-custard thing was even better than the last time. If you’re looking to go to a bakery in Hartford, yeah Mozzicato’s is historic and good. But you’re messing up. For real.

This is like a wannabe Panaderia pan del cielo. A cheap cuban sandwich is what you get. I think they were about $ 2 for a thing bread with cheese and cold cut meat The sandwich reminded me of stop and shop quality ham and cheese on a mini baguette. I think the bread was maybe 3 inches in diameter? A very small, depressingly cheap sandwich. They serve pastries here, too. I don’t know, maybe i’ll come back to try the pastries, but i’ll be honest, Panaderia pan del cielo on Prospect is better.
