I had the opportunity to eat here in August and my review deserves an update. La Probadita has clearly become more popular, as they’ve added quite a few more tables to the same space and now have a separate counter/table for handling ordering and money. I’m glad they are doing well! The down side was that the food wasn’t quite as good — lime wedges missing from the plate and just not quite as enticing. It also took forever to get our food. In addition, the grocery store at the front of the business has taken a real slide. They were no longer carrying the interesting local salsas — only a few standard commercial brands and very little of that, so no more taking home salsa from La Probadita. All in all, it’s still a solid place and had a very steady business when we were there at the lunch hour, most of whom appeared to be tourists.

If you like authentic Mexican food this is the place for you. The food counter is located in the back of a Mexican grocery store. The guacamole is the best in west Michigan. We have tried the tacos, gorditas, burritos and tamales so far. Everything has been fantastic! Our family will be making the trip here over and over again.

We visited here solely on word-of-mouth recommendations from at least four local people. I must say the food was really good and the staff was very friendly. The place needs some work though as other people have not eaten here because of appearance(and why aren’t the lights on?) It is definitely better food than the Mexican restaurant across the street…
